Shiner, Texas, April 13.—John Ular, a Bohemian farmer living on the Bailey farm, about eight miles northwest of here, suicided by blowing out his brains with a shotgun last night. He was about 50 years of age, and leaves a family. Despondency and brooding over debts was the cause.
There is a Jan Uhler buried in the Catholic cemetery at Shiner. No dates are listed on his marker.

HALLETTSVILLE - Anita Koehler Ulcak, 91, of Hallettsville, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005.
She was born Aug. 22, 1913, in Lavaca County, to the Robert and Sophie Stratmann Spies. She was a homemaker, a school bus driver, and a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.
Survivors: husband, Henry Ulcak.
Preceded in death by: first husband, Lebert Koehler; infant daughter, Leneldene Koehler; brothers, Bennie Spies, Ervin Spies, and Hubert Spies.
Visitation will be 1:30 P.M. today at Kubena Funeral Home chapel.
Services will be 1 P.M. Sunday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, the Rev. Herb Beyer officiating.
Burial will be at Breslau Cemetery in Breslau. Kubena Funeral Home, Hallettsville, 361-798-3271.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church.

HALLETTSVILLE - Henry Ulcak, 87, of Hallettsville, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006.
He was born April 30, 1919, in Lavaca County, to the late Willie "Bill" and Mary Konvicka Ulcak. He was a member of VFW Post 6382, American Legion Post 230, and Disabled Veterans of V.F., received the American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, one service stripe, and one overseas service bar. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.
Survivors: sisters, Gladys Motal of Seguin.
Preceded in death by: wife, Anita Spies Koehler Ulcak; brothers; infant and Eddie Ulcak.
Visitation will be 1 P.M. today at Kubena Funeral Home.
Services will be 2 P.M. Sunday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, the Rev. Herb Beyer officiating.
Burial will be at Breslau Cemetery in Lavaca County. Kubena Funeral Home, Hallettsville, 361-798-3271.

Mary Ulcak
Mary Ulcak, 86, of Hallettsville, died at 4:57 p.m., Friday, January 5, 1990, in the Lavaca Medical Center.
She was born December 31, 1903, in Lavaca County, daughter of the late Joseph and Paulina Olsovsky Kresta. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the KJZT Society.
She married Frank Ulcak on November 9, 1926, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, west of Hallettsville.
The body will lie in state at Kubena Funeral Home until 8:45 a.m., Tuesday, January 10, at which time it will be taken to St. Mary’s Catholic Church for 10 a.m. funeral services. The Rev. Celestino Say will officiate.
Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, under the direction of Kubena Funeral Home.
Rosary will be recited by the parish at 7 p.m., Monday, January 8, at Kubena Funeral Home Chapel. Rosary will also be recited by the societies at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Visitation began at 10 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
Surviving are her husband, Frank Ulcak of Hallettsville; two brothers, Robert A. Kresta of San Antonio and Victor A. Kresta of Hallettsville; and a sister, Annie Kresta of Rockport.

FUNERAL OF ED ULLRICH
The funeral services for Ed Ullrich who died at shiner monday afternoon were held here at the Sacred Heart Church at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon after which interment was made in the Pagel Settlement Cemetery. Father A. Mathis conducted the last sad rites at the church and the grave. Many pretty flowers were placed on the grave by friends in honor of his memory.
Pall-bearers were Anton Hodanek, D. G. Helmers, Fred Pfuhl of Shiner, W. J. Appelt, Adolph Zappe, and Chas. Fertsch of Hallettsville.
Honorary Pall-bearers were — Jos. Meyer, Ernest Sonntag, Herman Werner, F. Schaefer, Albert Bonorden and R. Waltersdorf.
A good man has gone to his reward. Blessed be his memory.

Mrs. Umbach Is Laid To Rest
Mrs. Bill Umbach, 81, a well known and kind lady of Hallettsville, died in the Dufner Hospital here, Tuesday, Jan. 22nd, following a lingering illness, at 2:45 a. m.
Funeral services were held at the Kubena Funeral Home at 9:15 a. m., and at the Sacred Heart Church at 9:30 a. m., Wed., Jan. 23rd. Rev. Henry Hilscher offered a Requiem High Mass at the church and interment was in the Catholic Cemetery here.
Pallbeares were G. H. Gerdes, Bobby Ahrens, Chas. Sommers, Anton Zaruba, Herbert Pohl and Ferdie Appelt.
Nee Bertha Appelt, Mrs. Umback [sic.] was born at Hallettsville, May 7th, 1875.
Surviving are one brother, Bill Appelt, of Providence City, and two sisters, Mrs. Lena Elstner and Mrs. R. R. Ratliff, both of Hallettsville.
Rosary was recited at the Kubena Funeral Home at 7:00 p. m., Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Wm. Underwood, who recently moved here from Atascosa county was killed at the home of Tom Wadsworth, his brother-on-law, last Wednesday night and was buried at the church on Thursday. He was a man of seventy-two years of age, a member of the Methodist church and a great worker in the Sunday school, a man of inflexible honesty and [strove] only to lay ... treasures above where moth and rust do not corrupt. He was well known all over the western counties and leaves six children, all of whom are grown, and a host of friends to mourn his loss.

SHIMEK SIFTINGS.
Mr. I. W. Underwood died at the residence of his brother-in-law, Tom Wadsworth, last Wednesday night, and was buried in the County Line cemetery Thursday afternoon. He had reached the ripe old age of 74 years. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the three children who now are left without the love of either father or mother, their mother having died several years ago.

Rev. J. C. Wilson was called to Sublime on Tuesday afternoon to conduct a funeral service over the body of Idell Fay Underwood, aged 3 years and 6 months, only daughter of Lafayette and Bee Underwood, who died of appendicitis on March 10th at Halletsville. A large company of sympathetic friends were present. The body was interred in the Geiger Cemetery.
