Funeral services were held for Elden Mikeska on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2003 at
10 a.m. at the Nelsonville Brethren Church with Reverend Michael
Groseclose officiating. Interment followed in the National Cemetery in Nelsonville.
Pallbearers were Steve Brezina, Brian Neumann, Mason Mikeska, Mike Hebert,
Jacob Diezi and Bruce Mikeska.
He was born December 1, 1928 in Bleiblerville, Texas to parents Joe and
Tillie (Maresh) Mikeska. He grew up in Bleiblerville where he attended the
Victoria School. He moved to Houston where he enlisted in the United
States Marine Corps on Sept. 9, 1946. Elden served his country until August 12,
1948 when he was honorably discharged having attained the rank of
Corporal.
He was united in marriage with Delores Peters on March 5, 1949 at the
Houston Brethren Church. They made their home in Houston until 1967, when
they moved to the Bellville area. Elden worked as an electrician in
residential construction. He was a member of the Nelsonville Brenthren
Church and had served on the Board of Elders. An avid outdoorsman, he
enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Elden Mikeska passed away Monday, August 25, 2003 in Bellville at the age
of 74.
He is survived by his wife of over 54 years Delores Mikeska of Bellville,
children Shirley Brezina and her husband Bob of Houston, Jenny Henske and
her husband Donnie of Brenham, Rita Parker and her husband Kevin of
Crosby, Peggy Neumann and her husband Bobby of Kenney, Edlen Mikeska, Jr. and his
wife Tina of Brenham, grandchildren Stephen Brezina, Kim Hebert and her
husband Mike, Brandi Henske, Jodie Henske, Kinsey Parker, Wendy Diezi and
her husband Jacob, Amy Brown and her husband Chris, Brian Newmann and his
wife Summer, Mason Mikeska and Morgan Mikeska, mother-in-law Annie Peters,
sister Loris Briles and many other friends and relatives.
Elden was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law
Connie and Arlene Mikeska and his brother-in-law Cotton Briles.
In lieu of usual remembrances friends who wish may make memorial gifts to
the Nelsonville Brethren Church Building Fund, the American Heart
Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
Funeral arrangement were under the direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home,
Bellville, Texas.
