Calvin A. Rinn, Sr., 73, formerly of Thrall, died Monday, July 21, 2003 at
Weston Inn Nursing Home in Temple.
Family visitation was 6 to 8 pm, Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at Providence
Funeral Home in Taylor. Celebration of Life service was 10 a.m. Wednesday
at Providence Funeral Home with the Rev. William Sterling officiating. Burial
followed at Taylor City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a Calvin Rinn, Sr. Agriculture Scholarship Fund in
memory of Calvin is being established. You may send memorials to P.O. Box

Calvin Rinn was born on May 6, 1930 to Davey and Elvira (Klump) Rinn in
Austin County. He graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1947. In
1951, he received his B.S. degree in Agriculture from Texas A&M University in
College Station and then in 1963 his M.S. degree in Dairy Science.
Calvin served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951-53.
On Nov. 21, 1953, Calvin married Gladys Davis in Bellville.
Calvin had worked for the Prison System in Huntsville and Sugarland before
moving to the Thrall area. In 1962, he became the manager of Stiles Farm
Foundation in Thrall and retired in 1997, after 35 years of service with
the foundation.
Calvin was a member of the United Methodist Church in Thrall, Past
commissioner of the City of Thrall, Thrall ISD School Board of Directors
for 12 years, Past President of the Texas Agriculture Producers and Texas Pork
Producers, he was selected 1989 Man of the Year in Texas Agriculture by
the County Ag Agents Association.
Calvin was such an avid Aggie fan that the fall of 2002 was the first time
he ever missed a home Aggie football game.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gloria Shupak; an infant
daughter, Deann Rinn; a son, Calvin Rinn, Jr. and his beloved wife, Gladys
Rinn on Dec. 3, 2002.
Calvin is survived by his two daughters, Gala Rowe and husband, Steve of
McGregor and Gina Freels and husband, Kevin of Midlothian; sister, Marcine
Bridges of Jarrell; eight grandchildren: Kali, Brady, and Katy Rowe, Macy
and Grant Freels, and Koen, Ryan, and Laura Rinn; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Honorary pallbearers were Frank Griffin, Kenneth Andrews and Jimmy Vega.
Pallbearers were Carol Bridges, Marshall Bridges, Gary Shupak, Terry
Shupak, Bobby Rinn and Billy Rinn.
