Leathart Funeral services for Betty Jo Leathart, 83, of Sealy, were held Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. from Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel with Mr. Sonny Rice officiating. Grave side services were at the Oakland Cemetery near Navasota, with the Rev. Merle Blado officiating. Pallbearers were LeRoy Jackson, Gene Richey, Jeff Vesely, Chris Hollenbeck, Larin Collins, and Parker Paine. Honorary pallbearers serving were Greg Baraks and Dr. Wilford Victor Morris. Born in Smithville, Betty Jo was the daughter of William Rufus and Annie Belle (Blackman) Hanks. She was raised in Central texas. Betty Jo graduated from Temple High School and then went to Business School. The former Miss Betty Jo Hanks married Mr. Orin John Leathart. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Navasota Medical Center Pharmacy until her retirement. Mrs. Leathart was a member of the I.O.O.F. Rebecca's VFW Auxiliary and served on the Board of Directors for H.O.A. Meals on Wheels. She was a big sports fan, and loved High School Football. Betty Jo Leathart died Thursday, Sept. 1 in Sealy. She is survived by her daughters Marilynn Leathart of Cleveland, Ohio, Madelaine Jackson and husband LeRoy of Alief; her son: Harvey Leathart and wife Shirley of Sealy; sister: Marie Voelter of College Station; six grandchildren: Katherine Hollenbeck and husband, Chris, Brenda Richey and husband Gene, Lindsay Leathart, Angela Leathart, Brandilynn Collins and Larin collins; four great- grandchildren: Shelby Richey, Emily Hollenbeck, Landon Leathart and Trayke Leathart. Preceded in death by her parents William Rufus and Annie Belle Hanks, husband Orin John Leathart; brothers: Johnny, Byron and Bill Hanks; sisters: Annie Lee Smith, Leona Hanks, Viola Barton and an infant sister.
