Stanley J. Merz, 85, of Bleiblerville, passed away Tuesday Nov. 15, 2005 at Trinity Medical Center. Stanley was born Oct. 2, 1920 to Harry and Gerda (Grosse) Merz in New Braunfels, Texas. On June 8, 1946 he was married to Viola Meier by the Rev. Walter Wolf in Welcome Lutheran Church. He served three years in the U.S. Army Pacific Theater during World War II. He was self-employed in the appliance repair business, a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Welcome, Past Commander of DAV Post #139 of Brenham, James F. Dillon Post 7104 of the V.F.W., Buddy Wright Post #48 of the American Legion and Past Commander of Post #602 of the American Legion in Shelby. His parents and one sister Connie Printy preceded him in death. His survivors include wife Viola Merz of Bleiblerville; son Daniel Merz and daughter-in-law Sandra of Bellville; daughter Rosalie Wendler and son-in-law Donald of Brenham; grandchildren Darla Hamff and husband Tim, Kelly Hord and husband Richard, Holly Wendler, Dustin Wendler, Carrie Mlcak and husband Chris, Eli Merz and wife Brittney and Macie Merz; great grandchildren Kayla Mlcak, Briley Mlcak, Leah Mlcak, Julie Hamff, Austin Hamff and Aidan Hord. Visitation with the Merz family was from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005 in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 18, 2005 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Welcome with Pastor Jason Korthauer officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Tim Hamff, Richard Hord, Dustin Wendler, Chris Mlcak, Eli Merz, Lyle Meier, Kenan Meier and Erich Glenewinkel. Honorary pallbearers were Member of DAV, VFW and American Legion. Memorials may be given to Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Welcome. Funeral services were in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel. Posted by Joy Neely
