Pachal Funeral services for Alta Fay Pachal, 78, of Bellville, were held Sunday, September 11 at 3 p.m. from Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel in Bellville with the Rev. Jim McLeod officiating. Interment was at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville. Pallbearers serving were her grandchildren and one nephew, Joseph Pachal, Thomas Johnson, David Demny, Stephen Johnson, Jacob Pachal and Vernon Wagley. Honorary pallbearer serving was "Sonny" Edwin Slovak. Alta Fay was born, the sixth of nine children to Ben and Katie (LeCompte) Ryman in Bay City. She was raised in Bellville and attended Wadsworth School. On may 28, 1949, Alta Fay married Henry Pachal, Jr. and they were married for 51 years. For many of those years, they lived and worked all over Texas doing road construction work. By the 1960s, she and Henry settled in the Bellville area, where they were engaged in farming and ranching. A tireless worker and devoted family member, she helped her husband in the construction and hay-making business. She continued many years in this capacity, until diabetes left her confined to a wheelchair. Though unable to walk or drive, she cared for her husband after he was sick. After his death in August 2000, she remained in their home and devoted her love and attention to her three children, 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and their families. Alta Fay always had a positive attitude, time to listen, soothing words of comfort and a helping hand and a tender heart. She was of Baptist faith, loved the color lavender, feeding wild births in her yard, circle-word books, playing Yahtzee with her daughter and many other fun activities. Alta Fay Pachal passed away September 8 at the Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy from a long-term illness and stroke. She is survived by daughters Sandra Johnson of Bellville, Mary Ann and husband Kostas Valius of Houston, son Jimmy and wife Darlene Pachal of Houston, brother Vernon Ryman of Brazoria, sisters Lena Jackson of Galveston, Pauline and husband Osburn Decker of Nancy, KY, Marie and husband Curtis Shoemaker of Brazoria and Leona Wagley of Weimar, grandchildren and their spouses Thomas Johnson, Joseph Pachal and wife Becky McKinney, Stephen Johnson and wife Cindy, Regina and husband David Demny, Angela Howard and Jacob Pachal; 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
