Funeral services for Edward Atkisson, 88, of Bellville were held Tuesday, April 11 ,2006 at 10 a.m. from St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Bellville with the Rev. Bob Gribble officiating. Interment was at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville. Edward Eugene Atkisson was born March 13,1918 in Clay City, Ill. to Maggie Fry and Eugene V. Atkisson. He graduated from Clay County Schools. He was a Veteran of World War II, served aboard the U.S.S. Bunker Hill CV 17. He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Married Jeanette Batla Sept. 5,1948 in Bellville. Retired from Reed Rock Bit Co. (Baker and Hughes) in 1982 after 31 years as Special Field Engineering Representative, living in Houston, Mt. Vernon, Ill., Midland, Texas and Oklahoma City. Member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Bellville, where he served on the Vestry and as Head Usher. Life member of B.P.O.E. No. 979 Brenham, V.F.W. Post 6522 Bellville, U.S.S. Bunker Hill Aircraft Carrier Association, Bellville General Hospital Auxiliary. Edward Eugene Atkisson died Sunday, April 9, 2006 in Bellville. He is survived by his wife Jeanette of Bellville; son John Atkinson of Oklahoma City and sister Helen Price of West Liberty, Ill.
