Sidney Earl "Sid" Brashear was born on February 20, 1946, the son of Coleman
Brashear and Eva Zelma Brashear. Sid served courageously in the Vietnam War
building air strips in conditions that were hardly bearable. His strong will
and keen sense of humor, and faith in the Lord undoubtedly saw him through
these times.
Sidney Brashear known as "Sid" by his friends and family, departed this life
to sit at the table of the King, December 2006. Sid was loved by many and
known by all because of his zeal for laughter and love of life. As a young
boy, Sid professed his faith at a Baptist Church in Houston, Texas and was
baptized shortly there after. Although he came from a broken home, he was
allowed to spend the summers with a God-fearing Aunt and Uncle who loved the
Lord. It was during these summers that Sid learned what family life was
truly about. With the guidance of these two amazing people, Sid learned the
value of hard work, necessity of rules and even how to drive a car. The most
important lesson that he learned as a boy during these summers was
unconditional love given by this aunt and uncle.
The trials of youth tested him and the troubles of the world managed to
drain the spark from his eyes and the joy from his heart. Through these
trials he grew strong and returned to the fold of God's followers.
He was a good son to his mother and father supporting them with love and
gifts even through the illness his mother suffered, especially in the later
years of her life. Sidney Brashear was a loved man, treasured friend, and
loyal family member. His memory will last only for a season, but his legacy
of love and life will remain forever.
Sid passed away at the age of 60. He is survived by his cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 am Friday, December 22, 2006 at Schmidt
Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Robert Stutes officiating. Interment was
held at Oak Knoll Cemetery.
