Sibyl Elizabeth Eastman Barber, 89, of San Angelo passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, in the
Bronte Health and Rehab facility.
Sibyl was born June 13, 1919 in Kenney to Nayrewe Arch and Lute Rebecca Eastman.
Her childhood years were spent in Bellville where she graduated high school.
She attended San Angelo College, Sul Ross University and the University of Colorado.
Sibyl taught school in Welcome and worked as a designer of aircraft parts during World War II at
Consolidated Aircraft Company in Fort Worth.
She married Woodrow Barber in 1945 and lived in San Angelo. Sibyl was employed at Goodfellow Air
Force Base for 34 years as a draftsman and estimator for architectural construction.
Sibyl was a great cook, hostess and an avid water and snow skier and taught many kids the sport.
She loved animals especially her samoyed and beagle. She always said “Life has been grand.”
Sibyl was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow; sisters Florence Myers, Joyce Gruner and
Nola Belle Barry; and her special friend, Clifton.
She is survived by two sisters, Ginna Barry and Rebecca Little of San Angelo; and many nieces
and nephews.
Sibyl has donated her body to Texas Tech University for medical research.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sibyl’s memory made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to
