_______________
* Mr. & Mrs. Moore had with them four
children, Amanda, 10 years old; John Travis, 6; George Washington, 4; and
Mary Ann, infant. The Indians tried to kill the children but were
unsuccessful because the scared oxen ran away with the wagon. The
Moore’s two other children, William, 11 and Alfred, 7, were with an uncle
that day. In June 2005, a plaque was placed at the cemetery by the
grandchildren of William F. Moore (the survivor of the Indian attack).
