George B. Tait  " was a veteran of the Spanish-American War   He was a CPL in the 5th Infantry Massachusetts Volunteers for the United-Spanish War.  He was the twin-brother of my grandfather David H. Tait.  They served together as troopers aboard the USS Bennington (PG-4) in the Philippine Islands and elsewhere in the Pacific Theater of the war (1898-1901)."

George B. Tait and his twin brother David H. Tait of Nova Scotia, were in living and working in the Boston area in 1898 when President McKinley called for volunteers to step foward to support the military effort in the Spanish American War.  They answered the call and joined the 5th Infantry of the Massachusetts Volunteers for the United-Spanish War.  They were sent to Mare Island, California to serve as troopers aboard the USS Bennington (PG-4) in the Philippine Islands and elsewhere in the Pacific Theater of the war (Guam and Wake Island).  They both achieved the rank of CPL.

After the war, the USS Bennington returned to Mare Island in 1901 and both brothers were discharged.  From there, together they traveled to Bandera, Texas to visit their elder brother J. Frank Tait who lived and worked there as a blacksmith.  While they were there, they each fell in love with Texas gals, got married and settled down to become Texans. 
 
David Tait left for Arizona in 1910.  George Tait became a grist mill operator in Medina, across the river from Bandera.  He married Anna M. Stinson of Texas.  They had a daughter named Marjorie Stinson Tait, born in Medina.  After George died of a heart attack in 1925, they moved to San Antonio to live.
