Welcome to Bexar County TXGenWeb!

Hi, my name is and I am the webmaster of Bexar County. I'd also like to mention that I do live in Michigan, so I won't be able to do onsite research. I am however, willing to work with all of you in putting up some good resources on this page. If you are able to offer any of those resources, please send me a note.

HELP NEEDED!!

09-13-08 - This news just in from Tom Maas.

28-year veteran director of the Alamo Township Museum, Mary Goble, is considering calling it quits after she closes this fall? She is 83 years old and ready for a break. She used to have a small army of local widow ladies helping her out, but noone seems to have the time or the interest (or the good health) in helping her out anymore.

The museum has many items of local interest, including photos. I took some time to scan some of their best local photos and I posted them here:

Can you spread the word amongst the local historians about this? Perhaps there is someone out there who may have an interest in helping keep it open.

Bexar (pronounced "bear") County was created in 1836 from an Old Mexican Municipality. The County Seat is San Antonio, the Alamo City.

You probably know us best for being the home of Mission San Antonio de Valero, better known as the Alamo, the Cradle of Texas Liberty. However, our history began in 1718 with a formal military and civilian settlement and then in 1731 when the Canary Islanders established the first civil government. Our county is rich in heritage and history. This web site hopes to bring to you in the upcoming months tips and resources on genealogy research in our county. Your comments and suggestions are welcome. We especially invite those of you who know of genealogy links for Bexar County research to forward those addresses.

I was at a flea market (just outside of Fredericksburg) the other day and they had a ton of old pictures (circa late 1800s -early 1900s) with the last name Lorentzson. Some of the pictures had Kansas City on the back-I'm not sure if that is Kansas City Kansas or Kansas City Missouri. I thought the name was unusual enough that I might could locate a family researching this branch. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to get these pictures back to someone who might really enjoy them. Please email me at my home email -Valerie -- if anyone is interested in the pictures.
