What is Los Bexarenos? Los Bexarenos is an organization
dedicated to Hispanic history and ancestral research. The Society promotes
public interest in history and genealogy through outreach and educational
programs. Members of the society consist of individuals from a variety
of occupations and life pursuits (e.g. retirees, housewives, doctors, lawyers,
historians, teachers, accountants, and professional genealogists).
Help for begining genealogists. The society assists new members in
getting started with genealogical research through beginner's workshops.
Beginners also receive assistance from the more experienced members of
our society. Other sources of information available for the new genealogists
are the monthly meetings and the Society's quarterly register.
Activities of the organization.
-
Monthly meetings: Topics of the meetings range from original
studies into Hispanic history to genealogy research techniques and sources
that can be used to develop family history. Speakers at the meetings are
people with a passion for history, professional historians, genealogists,
archaelolgists and researchers.
-
Los Bexarenos Quarterly Register:
The register is an important genealogical source for the members of the
Society. The publication contains translations of census, marriages, baptisms,
burials, wills and historical articles. Sources from these translations
come from and are about Texas localities, northern Mexico, and other areas
with large hispanic populations and history.
-
Ancestral Research: The main activity of the Society is family
ancestral research. Not only the family lineage, but the family history
and how our ancestors responded to national forces and events. How it was
that we, their descendants, find ourselves in this time and place. How
decisions made long ago affected our present lives and in many cases directly
account for our existence.
