 Organized in 1887 and carved from Presidio Presidio County, Brewster
  County is the largest county in the state of Texas. Larger than the
  state of Connecticut, this county is situated in the Big Bend area of
  western Texas. The county seat is Alpine.

   County records - marriages, probates, deeds, and district court
   minutes from 1887 are available; a limited number of these records
   have been microfilmed. Records prior to 1887 can be found in the
   counties which contained this area of western Texas:
   1831-1866     Bexar Bexar County
   1866-1875     El Paso El Paso County
   1875-1887     Presidio Presidio County
