SURNAMES: AGEE
QRYTEXT: Sophia and George, To: Sophia Parker Brown and George Brown My brother (William) and I made the trip to Camp County on Tuesday. Pittsburg is a very pretty place and I was surprised with all of the old homes and quietness of the town. We stopped by the Carson Place and I took some pictures (see attached). We arrived at the Pittsburg library about 11:00 and went to the genealogical section where Sunny Daily and Faye McMinn were happy to help us in the research. I told them about you and of course they knew your mother Alice. Sunny and Faye were so helpful to us. We donated to the library an Agee family tree and of course a copy of the "Autobiography of Cleora Victorine Agee Taylor Anderson". I was able to find a book about Camp County during the 1870's and I plan to return later to read this wonderful book. We found my Grandmother and her family on their confederate pension records, census records, tax records, but they did not have any church records that far back. Sunny and Faye suggested that we go to the court house and look up the land records. So after a couple of hours at the library we headed toward the court house. I saw the antique places you mentioned as we drove through town and finally found the courthouse. The first page of the index book (1872 to 1913) listed my great grandfather's name (J.F. Agee) and the land purchase in 1874. We were able to go to the actual land record showing the purchase of the land from J.G. Credille with a description of the property. We also found where my great grandfather sold that land to J.F. Bell in 1890. The actual record of the sell was not recorded until 1892 from another affidavit signed by J.F. Agee in Hopkins county. So it looks like my grandmother was in Camp county from 1872 (as stated in her biography) and left for Hopkins county in 1890. So she was 22 years old when she left which means that all of her young life was in Camp county. From the land records I was able to find a map at the courthouse that shows that the property was about 2 miles west of Leesburg. So this is the place that she relates to in her autobiography. We drove out to Leesburg and could you believe all of the old churches out there west of town. Their church was probably close to one of these places. The land and setting out there is so pretty. Why would you ever want to leave this place. Of course it was money that everybody needed, so they eventually sold out and ended up in Fort Worth. We stopped by the Leesburg cemetery and found one of the early graves to be J.G. Credille (the person J.F. Agee purchased the land from) with a death date of 1877. The oldest grave out there is one for 1870 (a Mr. Wiley). My grandmother married William Colin Taylor the First in Hopkins county in 1896 and they left for Oklahoma in 1902, but her husband died in 1908. They settled in Fort Worth where my father William Colin Taylor II was born in 1908 right after my grandfather's death. The Carson Inn was a beautiful place and I'm sure you have fond memories of growing up in the old house. That is about all for now. Jim Taylor Irving, TX

When she died the last name used could have been London or Turns.London was her first married name and Turns was her second married name. Rosanna(Anna) was born between 1875 and 1880. Rosanna is thought to have died around 1914 but it could be as late as 1917. Rosanna and her second Husband Oscar Turns were married on August 13,1912 just a few months after her first Husband: Allen London died on Jan 29,1912. Oscar and Rosanna(Anna on some records) had a daughter named Pearl born on April 4,1914. Pearl never took the surname of her dad(She was put in an orphanage as a baby) but of her adopted family the Goodnights. I just need now the date of Rosanna's death, Pearl was Born in Pittsburg and her half-brothers and sister knew about Rosanna's second marriage, so i assume she died her or in Hopkins county where she married Oscar Turns.
