Obituaries for April 23, 2006
Lee Roy Murphy
Services for Lee Roy Murphy, 76, of Retreat, Texas, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday,
April 23, 2006, at Corley Funeral Home Chapel in Corsicana, with the Rev. Dan
Rogers officiating.
Burial will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.
Mr. Murphy was born Aug. 31, 1929 in Troup. He died Friday, April 21, 2006, in
Corsicana.
Mr. Murphy retired from Penrod Drilling in Lafayette, La. as a drilling
superintendent after 33 years. He was also an avid golfer and served in the U.S.
Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict with honors.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lauretta Murphy, and three brothers.
Survivors include his son, Michael Murphy of Corsicana; daughter and son-in-law,
Patti Sue and Gary Ferrell of Retreat; son and daughter-in-law, Mark David and
Jamie Murphy of Retreat; brother, Sam Murphy of Tyler; brother, Fletcher Murphy
of The Woodlands; brother, James Murphy of The Woodlands; sister, Eula Mae Brown
of Houston; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Bowyer, Bill Knuerr, John Paul Skinner, Lee Bowyer,
Travis Skinner and Shawn Jones.
Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006.

Jessie M. Berry
Services for Mrs. Jessie M. Berry, of Jacksonville, are pending with Community
Funeral Home of Jacksonville.
Mrs. Berry died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at a Jacksonville nursing home.
James Lester Wilson
Memorial services for James Lester Wilson, 82, of Mt. Selman, will be at 2 p.m.
Monday, April 24, 2006, at Mt. Selman Baptist Church, with the Rev. James
Blaylock officiating, under the direction of Boren-Conner Funeral Home of
Jacksonville.
Mr. Wilson died Friday afternoon, April 21, 2006, at his residence. He was born
June 21, 1923, in Bonham, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Selman Baptist Church or to
Hospice of East Texas.

Norman M. Rice

Services for Norman M. Rice, 82, of Jacksonville, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday,
Aug. 1, 2006, at the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
Burial followed at Tecula Cemetery.
Mr. Rice died July 29, 2006, at a local hospital. He was born Nov. 4, 1923, in
Kilgore. He was a retired machine operator.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Rice of Jacksonville; daughters, Glenda Ann
Rice of Jacksonville, Debra Lynn Miles of New Emmaus, Patricia Jean Ebanez of
Jacksonville and Tammy Marie Warren of Troup; brother, Duain E. Rice of New
London; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Rice’s grandsons.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2006.
