James Franklin “Bubba” Taylor,

Services for James Franklin “Bubba” Taylor, 66 of Dialville will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday April 1, 2007, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, Jacksonville, with Rev. Charles Swilling officiating.

Burial will be at Providence Cemetery, Jacksonville.

Mr. Taylor died Thursday, March 29, 2007 at his residence. He was born September 30, 1940 in Jacksonville.

Sulma Alaniz

Services for Sulma Alaniz will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 3 at Union Chapel Cemetery in New Summerfield, Fr. Mark Kusmirek officiating.

Burial will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Autry Funeral Home of Jacksonville.

Ms. Alaniz was born and died on Friday, March 30.

Andrew Charles Freeman

Services for Andrew Charles Freeman, 23, of Tyler, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

Mr. Freeman was born Jan 17, 1984 in Tyler and died Feb. 25, 2007 in Talladega County, Alabama.

He was the assistant manager of a restaurant, attended Grace Schools and played football for Robert E. Lee High School.

Mr. Freeman is survived by his father Andy Freeman of Tyler, his mother Janet Freeman of Oklahoma and his sister Bethany Freeman of Tyler.

Pallbearers will be Chad Morris, Eric Hocheim, Arthur Adkison, Jin K, Tim Goff and Jason Potter.

Robert Adkison is honorary pallbearer.

Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thelma T. Terrell

Services for Thelma T. Terrell, 93, of Pasadena, Texas (formerly of Frankston and Lake Palestine), will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Frankston, with the Rev. Doug Howell officiating, under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Frankston City Cemetery.

Mrs. Terrell died Thursday, March 29 in a Pasadena nursing home.

She was born Jan. 18, 1914, in Palestine.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2007, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Frankston in her memory.

Jim Cummings

Services for Jim Cummings, 46, of New Summerfield, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the Autry Funeral Home Chapel, under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

Mr. Cummings died Sunday, April 1, 2007, in New Summerfield. He was born March 14, 1961, in Redondo Beach, Calif. He was Construction Superintendent for CATO.

Survivors include his wife, Kimberlee Cummings of New Summerfield; his father, David Cummings of Bull Head City, Ariz.; his mother, Sharon Ballinger of Coarse Gold, Calif.; his daughter, Tawnie Cummings of Jacksonville; his step-sons Joe Romero Jr. of Fort Worth and Joshua Romero of Fort Worth; his step-daughter, Chynna Romero of Fort Worth; his brother John Ballinger whereabouts unknown; his sister Diana Hust from California; and four grandchildren, Brittney, Samantha, J.D. and Little Joe.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2007, at the funeral home.

Joan Smith Broussard

Memorial services for Joan Smith Broussard, 73, of Gallatin, will be held at a time to be determined later, under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

Mrs. Broussard died Sunday, April 1, 2007, in Jacksonville. She was born May 15, 1933, in Gallatin. She was a loan officer for a Houston bank and she attended Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Broussard; and her daughter, Jo Broussard Crouch.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Broussard of Houston; her friend Johnny Bufford; her sister, Elsie Bolton; her sister-in-law, Betty J. Broussard; her two granddaughters; Rose Osborn and Joanna Crouch; her four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Johnny’s children and many wonderful friends will miss her dearly.

Joan Smith Broussard is the great-granddaughter of Jackson Smith, the man who donated the land for the town of Jacksonville, after whom the town is named.

Jeanette Whitley

A memorial service for Jeanette Whitley, 52, of Jacksonville was held at 10 a.m. today at Boren-Conner Funeral Home in Jacksonville with Mary Dowdy officiating.

Burial will be in Bullard Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitley was born Dec. 4, 1954 in Jacksonville and died March 31, 2007.

Danny Jay Bolton

Services for Danny Jay Bolton, 47, of New Summerfield, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2007, at the Autry Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Morrow officiating, under the direction of Autry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Tecula.

Mr. Bolton died Sunday, April 1, 2007, in New Summerfield. He was born Feb. 25, 1960, in Jacksonville. He was a mechanic and a cowboy who had lots of friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, J.W. Bolton; his brother, Darrell Bolton and his sister, Kathy Bolton.

Survivors include his mother, Nellie Bolton of Jacksonville; his wife, Teresa Bolton of New Summerfield; his son, Justin Bolton of New Summerfield; his daughter, Miranda Bolton of Jacksonville; his grandson, Sean Bolton from Jacksonville; his sisters and brother-in-law, Terri and Leslie Bearden of Jacksonville, Charolette Sanders of Jacksonville, Barbara and Harold Lewis of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include Jerry Lewis, Jaylon Bolton, Matthew Noland, Joe Panuco, Rick Brashear, Clint Harper, Ky Crutcher, Zach Walker and Bryan Whittmoore.

Reagan “Buddy” Turman

Services for Reagan “Buddy” Turman, 73, of Longview (formerly of Tyler), will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Noonday Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Hawbaker officiating, under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.

Mr. Turman died Sunday, April 1, in a Longview hospital. He was born April 12, 1933, in Noonday.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service, at Noonday Baptist Church.

Clifford “Slim” Milton

Services for Clifford “Slim” Milton, 72, of Tyler (formerly of Jacksonville), will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the home of Mary Crowe, Tyler. Arrangements were made through Hilliard Funeral Home in Van.

Mr. Milton died Wednesday, March 28, in Tyler. He was born Dec. 20, 1934, in Palestine.

R. B. Williams

Services for R. B. Williams, 78, of Frankston, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2007, at the Rock Hill Baptist Church of Cuney, with the Rev. Delbert Simpson and the Rev. Efrem Collins officiating. Services are provided by John R. Harmon Mortuary of Tyler.

Survivors include his daughters and son-in-laws, Gladys Williams of Tyler, Brenda and Earl Lankford of Frankston, Debra and Oscar Birdow of Frankston, Colitha Williams Paul of Frankston, Sharon and Floyd Marshall of Jacksonville and Donna and Efrem Collins of Lindale; his sons, Ricky Williams, Mark Williams and Gary Williams all of Frankston.

Pallbearers will include grandsons Leonard Preston Jr., Cedric Nicholis Pierson, Roderick Pierson, Cristopher Oliver, Floyd Marshall Jr. and Oscar Birdow Jr.

Ray Peters

Services for Ray Peters, 77, of Jacksonville, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007 at the Autry Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Michael Lewis officiating.

Burial will be in Still Waters Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Peters died Tuesday, April 3 in Jacksonville.

He was born May 27, 1929 in San Augustine, Texas.

He was a mail carrier and a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Kirbyville. A U.S. Marine, he served in the Korean Conflict and was a member of Odd Fellows.

Mr. Peters is survived by his wife Alice V. Peters and his son Jimmy Sanford of Jacksonville; his daughters Jean Jackson of Nacogdoches, Terrie Blankenship of Rusk and Susan Spec and her husband Raymond Spec of Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and his sister Jackie Holmes of Kirbyville.

Pallbearers will be David Yancy, Daniel Strickland, David J. Smith, Casey Blackney, Darrell Canady and James Wolf.

Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nephews.

Boyd Clarence Magers

Funeral services for Boyd Clarence Magers, 82, of Mount Vernon (formerly of Jacksonville), will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jim Crittendon officiating, under the direction of Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at 4 p.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Whitewright, Texas.

Mr. Magers died Wednesday, April 4 at his residence in Mount Vernon. He was born June 9, 1924 in Whitewright, the son of Lewis Melvin and Bertha Janora Wiggins Magers. He was a member of the Cornerstone Church in Mount Vernon.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorthea Ann Barkley and brothers, Joe Melvin Magers, Charles Glendon Magers and Cecil Clifton Magers.

He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Jean Landes of Kilgore, Katherine Lee Ann Crabtree of Mount Vernon and Linda Gail Williams of Lone Oak; her sister, Cora Louise Seals of Savoy; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Lynn Marie Marshall Banks

Funeral services for Lynn Marie Marshall Banks, age 84 of Rusk, are scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2007 at First Church on the Hill in Rusk, Texas with the Reverend Jan Pate officiating.

Burial will be in Rusk Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.

Mrs. Banks passed away on April 6, 2007 at the East Texas Hospice Center in Tyler, Texas.

She was born May 2, 1922.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Banks, her father and mother, Charles W. and Ewing Marshall, and two brothers, Charles R. and Johnny Marshall.

She is survived by her three children, Bob Banks and wife Martha of Richardson, Texas; Judy Ramey of Rusk, and Diann Norton and husband Jerry Don of Rusk; 10 grandchildren Robin and husband Kret Townsend of Round Rock, Texas; Debra and husband Mike Dominy of Alto; Sherry and husband Greg Dover of Rusk; Ronda and husband Denny McIntyre of Rusk; Shannon and husband Jim Myers of McKinney; Steven Norton and wife April of Rusk; Jason Ramey and wife Monica of Houston; Keith Norton and wife Amy of Rusk; Lynn and husband Josh West of Alto; Scott Ramey and wife Elizabeth of Conroe, Texas; 18 great-grand children and one great-great-granddaughter.

Lynn Marie was a long-time resident of Rusk where she was active for many years in business. She worked as a manager with Sears-Roebuck at many locations including Dallas, Kilgore, Longview, Palestine, Jacksonville and as manager of the local Rusk Sears store for more than 10 years. She managed the Rusk Pine Meadow Apartments for another 10 years followed by an equal time at the Department of Human Services until her retirement in 2002. Also as a volunteer, she was elected and served as President of the local HUD organization for several years.

During the years while her children and grandchildren attended Rusk schools, she was always active and supportive in any activities where they were involved. She was the first woman to serve on the Rusk Independent School District Board. All through her adult life, she enjoyed taking her children and their friends on trips, out to eat, to ballgames, and many other “fun things.” She was known in the community as “Mrs. Banks,” “Mrs. B,” or just “Lynn Marie” but later her grandchildren and their friends have come to lovingly know her as “Dee.”

Along with her late husband, Lewis Banks, she was a strong supporter in local politics, attending and participating in the Democratic Convention for many years. She has always been “around the Courthouse” helping to count votes, or just keeping up with the political races “first hand”.

“Dee” has now moved on to her final job, where we know she is already pitching in to get things organized and “done right.” Though she is gone, her memories and persistent influence are forever ours to keep.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6–8 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2007 at First Church on the Hill in Rusk. If desired, memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.

"Pete” Pavletich

“Pete” Pavletich” died April 5, 2007 after a lengthy illness. Memorial services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1000 S Jackson at 2 p.m. Monday, April 9 with Father Rob Godwin presiding. Burial will follow in Still Waters Memorial Gardens under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

Born October 17, 1917 in Alto, Texas, the second son of four to P.J. and Annie Treadwell Pavletich, he grew up in New Salem and Jacksonville, graduating from JHS and attending Lon Morris College.

On June 8, 1939 he married Virginia Ramelle Taylor and they had two children; Pam and Paul.

He entered the U.S. Navy, January 1, 1945, ranking as a Seaman 1st Class, where he instructed pilots in simulated flights in the Link Trainer, and later was a flight instructor at the Naval Training School operated at the Municipal Airport.

Pete first worked for his father at the Pavletich Auto Supply. After his discharge from the Navy he opened GI Trade Schools. In 1951 he became partners in a lumber company that was in operation for 27 years. In 1980 he started Pete Pavletich Company which is still in operation today.

He enjoyed his winters snow skiing and summers at the lake and his mornings at what he called “The Breakfast Club.” He was a 32nd degree Mason.

Pete loved people and if he didn’t know you, he would after five minutes of speaking know someone who knew you.

Preceded in death by his daughter, Pam Esteve, granddaughter Devon Lin Burton and brothers; Jack Paul and Yacob Pavletich.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years Ramelle Pavletich, Jacksonville; son and daughter-in-law Paul and Beckie Pavletich, Jacksonville; grandchildren Corey Pavletich, Austin, Gretchen Pavletich, Jacksonville & SuZan Young, Houston; three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; his brother Philip Pavletich and his wife Francis Carolyn Pavletich.

Honorary pallbearers are Clay Carter, Hulon Brown, Max Treadwell, Tommy Dan Treadwell, Bill McCarter and Wayne Hammons.

Evelyn June Davis Warren

Mrs. Autry died April 8, 2007 in Jacksonville.

She was born Jan. 28, 1930 in Rusk County.

She was secretary at Rusk State Hospital for 33 years, a member of Craft Baptist Church and a member of the Genealogical Society, the Mayflower Society and the Daughters of the American Republic.

Mrs. Warren was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother Ross Davis.

She is survived by hr husband Dewey Maurice Warren of Jacksonville; her son and daughter-in-law Mike and Judy Warren of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Michelle and Joey Beltz of Schertz, Shanna Dement of Jacksonville and Aaron Dement of Jacksonville; four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Crow of Jacksonville, Mackenna Dement of Jacksonville, Serena Beltz of Schertz, Jared Beltz of Schertz; one sister and brother-in-law Bennie and Dan Jones of Jacksonville and sister-in-law Irene Davis of Jacksonville.

Ella Mae Cherryhomes

Ella Mae Cherryhomes, two days prior to her 89th birthday, passed away in Fort Worth, Texas, on March 30, 2007.

She was born in Franklin County, Texas, on April 1, 1918.

Ella Mae grew up in Winnsboro, Texas and was raised by Mabel Sutherland after both her parents died when she was quite young. In Winnsboro, she met Rawlins Cherryhomes, a minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). They were married on Dec. 11, 1942.

A devoted wife and mother, Ella Mae lived with her husband throughout his ministry, full-time ranching in Paris, Texas and his tenure as professor at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, until his retirement in 1977. They then lived in Bullard until his death in 1994. Ella Mae then lived in Tyler and Fort Worth until her death.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Rawlins; and her brother, Earnest Hughes. Survivors include her sister, Willie Hensarling; her sons, John Cherryhomes and Mark Cherryhomes; her daughter, Ginger McCarroll, six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Our Mema truly lived life to the fullest, and is remembered by family and friends as a devoted mother, wife and friend.

A memorial service and reception will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Franklin Park Retirement Home in Fort Worth, with interment of ashes at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at Bullard Memorial Cemetery. A reception immediately following will be at the Bullard Methodist Church.

Bernice Ray

Services for Bernice Ray, 85, of Bullard are pending with Autry Funeral Home of Jacksonville. Mrs. Ray died Tuesday, April 10, in Tyler. She was born March 2, 1922.

She is preceded in death by her husband, C. W. “Buddy” Ray.

Vergle Dennis

Services for Vergle Dennis, 86, of the Pine Grove Community, Jacksonville, will be held at noon Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Pennel Chapel CME, with Rev. Tommy Starks and eulogist M. L. Dorsey officiating, under the direction of Community Funeral Home of Jacksonville. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Dennis died Thursday, April 6, 2007, at Trinity Mother Frances in Tyler. He was born Jan. 12, 1921, in Jacksonville. He attended Pine Grove Elementary and was a life-long resident of Jacksonville. He attended New Community Methodist and was a bulldozer operator. He also served in the U.S. Army.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Beatrice Dennis; his wife, Velma Dennis, four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his daughters, Vergle Nell Johnson of Dallas and Venita Joyce Johnson of Jacksonville; his brothers, Homer Dennis of Houston and Timothy Dennis of Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Johnny Battle, Tommy Boyd, Lester Dennis, Charles Meador Sr., Gerald Porter Sr. and Alver (Dee) Session.

Emma (Gem) Calcote

Emma (Gem) Calcote was born May 16, 1909 in Argo, Alabama, and died at The Bonner Place, Jacksonville, Texas, at 4 p.m. March 17, 2007, just two months from before her 98th birthday. She lived with two of her sisters at Bonner Place for nine years, and fought valiantly to recover from a broken hip and other illnesses. At 98 she continued to do her best, but said that she was ready to join her husband, parents, five sisters and three brothers in heaven.

She attended Tennessee Colony High School where she was a good student and a great basketball player.

One dear sister’s name was Jewell, and Emma soon was being called Gem, a nickname that followed her forever. The two sisters won a beauty contest, with the prize being a trip to Hollywood, which their parents certainly did not allow. She was an extraordinary seamstress and an outstanding cook, especially known for her baking. She excelled in Angela’s ladies wear shop in Palestine, which had become her home since 1929. She loved helping people choose the appropriate article, even altering items to be helpful. Often she said this was the favorite time of her life.

Emma was survived by her daughter, Barbara Anne Dewberry and her husband James and her granddaughter Angela Farris, all of Dallas; and grandson, Louis Farris III and his wife Diane, and great-grandchildren, Drew, Michelle and Grace Farris, of Denver, and her brother John Q. Massey of San Juan, Puerto Rica, nieces Mary Simms and Marjorie Brashcar and husband Bill of Dallas, her niece Patsy Johnson of Palestine, and many other wonderful nieces, nephews and other extended family members that she loved dearly, including the Newburn and Tilley families of Jacksonville.

The Bailey Foster Funeral Home conducted the internment at the Tennessee Colony Cemetery on March 18, 2007, at 2 p.m. Gem asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Bonner Place, Jacksonville. A memorial celebration of her life is planned for May, when her brother, grandson and family can attend.

Graveside services for Sadie Corine Darby, 92, of Jacksonville, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 17 at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler, under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Rev. Dr. Royce Riley officiating.

Mrs. Darby died April 14, 2007 in Jacksonville.

She was born Aug. 17, 1914 in Edom, Van Zandt County, Texas.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, a member of the Mary Martha Sunday School class and the Golden Jubilee Senior Adult Ministry. She was a resident of Bonner Place Nursing Home in Jacksonville.

Mrs. Darby was preceded in death by her parents Samuel W. and Cora F. Riley, by six brothers and four sisters, husbands B.V. Robison, Sr. and Homer D. Darby and two infant children.

She is survived by brother-in-law Calvin E. Darby and wife Barbara of Waco; sister-in-law Margie Garrett of Hubbard; sons and daughters-in-law B.V. (Bob) and Dottie Robison of Houston, Conrad and Shirley Robison of McGregor and Marvin and Wanda Robison of Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 16 at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Services for Mrs. Jo Lang, 93, of Jacksonville, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2007 in the Autry Funeral Home chapel, Rev. David Hallum officiating.

Burial will be in Vinson Cemetery under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lang died Saturday, April 14, 2007 in Tyler.

She was born Aug. 29, 1913 in Henderson County, Texas.

A member of Afton Grove Baptist Church, Mrs. Lang was retired from sales and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband William “Bill” Lang of Jacksonville; sister Genevieve McGee of Henderson County and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Jones, Eddie Smith, Charles Dickerson, Frank Diamont, Wayne Todd amd Brent Smith.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 16 at Autry Funeral Home.

Matthew Justin Coppock

Matthew Justin Coppock, 27, passed away April 13, 2007 in Katy, Texas. He was a resident of Houston where he graduated in 1998 from Mayde Creek High School, where he also played football.

His mother, Frances Coppock, precedes him in death.

He is survived by his father, Dr. Charles Coppock; sisters Cara Coppock and BreeAnn Coppock; grandparents Geneva Coppock and Loyd and Mary Kent, numerous aunts and uncles and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at Brookside Funeral Home, Cypress Creek.

Maggie Thompson Nelson

Services for Maggie Thompson Nelson, 89, of Troup, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2007 at Rock Hill Presbyterian Church, with Elder Sammuel W. Jones officiating. Burial will be at Union Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Mercy/McGowan Funeral Home.

Mrs. Nelson died April 14, in Jacksonville. She was born Jan. 16, 1918, in Ponta. She attended Rock Hill School and attended Rock Hill Presbyterian Church. She lived in Troup for a majority of her life, and later moved to Jacksonville until her death. She was a house wife and a domestic service provider. She is preceded in death by her son, Earl Nelson; her husband, Jim Henry Nelson Sr.; seven sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Cora Nelson of Tyler, and Jim H. and Shirley Nelson Jr. of Tyler; her daughters and sons-in-law, Mae Dean Jones of Jacksonville, Frances J. and Raymond Howard of Denver, Colo., and Murl and Andrew Hackney of Bullard; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Danny E. Whitmill, Tony L. Jones, Warren D. Whitmill, LaTerrell L. Hackney, Gerald J. Nelson and Jim Nelson III.

Honorary pallbearers include Elder Pete Thompson, Elder Vernon Sanders, Deacon James E. Gordon and Deacon Carl Tennison.

Maurice Warren

Services for Maurice Warren, 82, of Jacksonville, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2007, at Autry Funeral Home, with Rev. Leon Ross and Rev. Lester Foreman officiating. Burial will be at Rudd Cemetery.

Mr. Warren died April 16, in Turney. He was born Aug. 18, 1924, in Jacksonville. He was a retired ward supervisor at Rusk State Hospital and attended Craft Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran who served in the Army. He is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Warren; and his brother, O.D. Warren.

Survivors include and son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Judy Warren of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Michelle and Joey Beltz of Schertz, Shanna Dement of Jacksonville and Aaron Warren of Jacksonville; four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Crow of Jacksonville, Mackenna Dement of Jacksonville, Serena Beltz of Schertz and Jared Beltz of Schertz.

Mrs. Lang died April 12, 2007, in Tyler. She was born to Frederick and Mary Seffel Radetzky, Aug. 29, 1913 in Henderson County. She retired from Hunts Electronics in Dallas. She and her husband William Lang moved to Jacksonville and made this their home. She was a member of Afton Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Mary Seffel Radetzky; her brothers, Frederick Walter and Ben Radetzky; her sister, Mary Landry, Caroline Holmes and Gertrude Wood; her niece, Mary Green; and her nephew, Fred Ransavall.

Survivors include her husband, William “Bill” Lang of Jacksonville; her sister, Genevieve McGee of Palestine and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Wayne Jones, Eddie Smith, Charles Dickerson, Frank Diamont, Joe Musick and Brent Smith.

Rosa Jane Cigainero

Rosa Jane Cigainero, 65, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away at home on April 18, 2007, following a graceful and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Greensburg, Indiana on December 27, 1941 to Clarence E. and Sara Estelle Davis. She was raised in Texarkana, Texas where she graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1960. She married her childhood sweetheart, Larry Joe Cigainero in 1962 and they moved to Denton where they had two children, Joey and Laura. In 1966 the family moved to Jacksonville where they have been proud residents ever since.

Rosa Jane earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from UT Tyler, and her Master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. She devoted 28 years to education, working as a 5th grade teacher at East Side Elementary, then as a 7th grade Language Arts teacher at Jacksonville Middle School. Rosa Jane was a devoted member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church where she served as cantor for 35 years. She also served as president of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma for 2 years. After retirement in 2004, she enjoyed dancing with Larry Joe, traveling in her RV, camping with their 3 grandsons, playing Mah Jongg, and entertaining friends.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, as well as her son, Joey, who died in a plane crash in 1991 while playing keyboards for Reba McEntire.

She leaves to mourn her loving husband, Larry Joe Cigainero, Jacksonville, TX., her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Andrew Pitts, Spring, TX. and her three grandsons, Joey, Jeffrey, and Jeremy Pitt, Springs, TX. The family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to Dr. Alfonso Saade, the staff at M D Anderson, and the Hospice of East Texas for their tender, loving care.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2007 at Thompson Funeral Home, Jacksonville, TX. with a rosary being said at 7 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2007 at Thompson Funeral Home, Jacksonville, TX. Services for Thomas Dewitt Grimes, 80, of Rusk, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2007 at Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Rusk, with Rev. Don Copeland officiating.

Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Oakland, Texas under the direction of Wallace Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.

Mr. Grimes died April 20, 2006 at his home in Rusk.

He was born March 18, 1927 in Rusk.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 22 at Wallace Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.

Mr. Grimes was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He served in the U.S. Army and also the U.S. Navy. He received a Purple Heart in the Korean War.

Mr. Grimes is preceded in death by his grandson Allen Strayhorn, brothers James Grimes and Bartee Grimes, father George W. grimes and mother Rosa Grimes.

Survivors include daughters Sherry Jones of Maydelle and Debbie Strayhord of Greenville; two sisters, Evelyn Todd of Freeport and Elsie Grogan of Jacksonville and one brother, R.V. Grimes of Auga Dulse, Texas; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Barbara Handley Detwiler

Graveside services for Barbara Handley Detwiler, age 73, of Rusk were held Saturday, April 21, 2007 in Reese Cemetery with Steve Handley officiating under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.

Mrs. Detwiler died April 20, 2007 in a Rusk nursing home.

She was born August 1, 1933 in Reese.

She was a resident of Rusk for two years, formerly of Reese. She was Church of Christ. She was a seamstress and was employed by a telephone company for several years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ollie Handley, daughter, Phyllis Anita Farrow Wells, brother, David Handley, sister, Nora Myrick.

She is survived by daughter, Mary Frances Farrow Kellie of Rusk, son, John Detwiler of Dallas, TX, two sisters and brother-in-law, Nadine Ingram of Jacksonville, Mary and Robert Lee of Reese, two granddaughters and husbands Christy and Greg Stewart of Lufkin, TX, Myra and Ronnie McCreight of Rusk, three great grandsons, Preston Stewart of Lufkin, TX, Wessley Stewart of Lufkin, TX, Aaron Riley McCreight of Rusk, sister-in-law, Jean Handley of Tyler, TX, aunt, Lena Ray of Palestine, TX, a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and close friends Mr. and Mrs. Travis Etheridge of Reese.

Glenn Ray Simek

Glenn Ray Simek, 50, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2007 in Tyler.

A memorial service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis Dr.

Glenn graduated from Trinity Euless High School in 1975. He was a member of the International Hot Boat Association and was its World Champion in 2002. He was High Point leader in the Southern Drag Boat Association.

He was preceded in death by his brother Rodger and grandparents, Emil and Frances Simek and Louis and Minnie Mayes.

Mr. Simek is survived by his daughter Michelle Simek of Wautauga; his parents Alvin and Mae Simek of Jacksonville; Suzie Simek, Michelle’s mother and Leada Amoury, Michelle’s grandmother, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Melvin Morris Levine


Funeral services for Melvin Morris Levine, age 29, of Rusk, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at First Baptist Church in Rusk with Rev. Randy Sparks and Pastor Gary Christopher officiating.

Mr. Levine died April 19, 2007 in a Tyler hospital.

He was born February 28, 1978 in Houston, TX to the late Harry Jacob and Barbara Ferguson Levine. He was a Baptist. He was employed as a tool pusher for Scan Drill, Inc. He was a lifelong resident of Rusk.

He is survived by his fiance, Julie Odom of Rusk; sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and David Bruce of San Antonio, TXC; four uncles, Ronnie Levine of Bullard, Donald Ferguson of Maydelle; Michael Ferguson of Hardcomer, TX; Steve Ferguson of Newport, TX; 10 aunts, Florence Levine Allen of Bullard, Becky Levine of Bullard, Donna White of Sugarland, TX, Julie Ferguson of Austin, TX, Debbie Ferguson of Crosby, TX, Melisha Ferguson of Maydelle, Vickie Ferguson of Hancock, TX, Debbie Ferguson of Newport, TX, Janet Sturla of Florida and many other cousins and family.

Mr. Scritchfield died Sunday, April 22, 2007 in Jacksonville.

He was born October 15, 1921 in Frankston, Texas.

He was a retired truck driver for Red Ball after 35 years and was a member of Afton Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wives Ruth Rebecca Scritchfield and Adlene Scritchfield; daughter Bettye Anne Scritchfield and granddaughter Gine Renee Mcbride.

He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Becky and Ocie McBride of Houston; daughter Melba Jane Scritchfield of Lufkin; brother James Earl Scritchfield of Henderson; two grandchildren, Dana Simmons and Jody McBride and extended family members Mike Champion, Tressie Schindler, Michael Champion, Brandon Champion, Daniel Champion, Chanda Lemmon, Wendy Hughes, Emily Hughes, Holly Lemmon, Lance Champion and Trevor Champion.

Irby McKenzie Hilliard

Irby McKenzie Hilliard was born in rural Van Zandt County on July 15, 1908. Graduated from Grand Saline High School, and entered what was then North Texas Teachers’ College with a teaching career in mind. That plan changed when she met and married George M.

Hilliard, Jr., who had interest in the study of medicine which he completed in 1935. The family moved to Jacksonville, Texas in 1945 after Dr. Hilliard had served four years military duty.

Irby’s love of life and people was her most cherished asset. Her continued interest in the medical profession was evident by her many years of work in the Cherokee County Medical Auxiliary and her volunteer work at Nan Travis Memorial Hospital, now East Texas Medical

Center. Her family and her church were also an integral part of her life.

Survivors include sons Dr. George Hilliard and wife Carmen, Longview, Texas; James R. (Jim) Hilliard and wife Beth, and daughter, Sally Hilliard Shank of Dallas. Grandchildren include Julie and John Webster, Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. George Hilliard IV and wife Jill, Memphis, Tennessee, Amanda Hilliard, Fort Worth, Texas, Steve Shank and wife Monica, Dallas, Texas, Brooke and Mike Mercer, Victoria, Texas, Dr. Stuart Hilliard and wife Amy, Portland, Oregon, Ree and Monte Lowery, Seabrook, Texas, John Goldberg and wife Jennifer, Dallas, Texas, and thirteen great grandchildren. Irby wrote: To you, whom I have loved so much, fear not nor grieve at my departure. Life has been a beautiful journey.

Funeral services for Madelyn Sharp, 83, of Alto and formerly of Rusk will be today at 2:00 p.m. at the O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Alto with Rev. David Darst officiating. Burial will be in the Alto City Cemetery.

Mrs. Sharp died Saturday in Alto. She was born April 21,1924 in Alto to Arthur and Gladys Finch Brooks. Mrs. Sharp had lived in Rusk for many years and also had lived in Tyler. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rusk and had been a homemaker as well as a beautician.

She was preceded in death by husband, Charles Sharp, brothers, Travis Brooks, Pete Brooks, and R.L. Brooks.

Survivors include daughter and son in law Sharla and Marshall Corley of Alto; son and daughter in law Paul and Linda Sharp of Tyler; Brothers and sisters in law A.L. ‘Boots’ Brooks of Alto, W.A. ‘Bill’ and Marge Brooks of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Arthur and Joy Brooks of Lufkin; sisters and brother in law Shirley and Dave Meeks, Nancy Brooks, both of Mineola; five grandchildren, Stephanie Davis, Clint Corley, Shelly Kornegay, Christy Imbriele and Shelly Tubbs; nine great grandchildren Corin Kirkpatrick, Brooke Kirkpatrick, Carson Corley, Seth Kornegay, Zack Kornegay, Spohia Imbriele, Kyle Frank, Cara Frank and Ashley Davis.
