Mary Alice Overstreet

Services for Mary Alice Overstreet, 63, of Rusk, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at the Mount Oliver Baptist Church in Rusk, with the Rev. Mertis Barley officiating. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery under the direction of Mercy-McGowan Funeral Home.

Viewing will be 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2007. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m.

Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Sadler

Services for Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Sadler, 86, of Jacksonville, are pending at Autry Funeral Home.

She died May 31, 2007 in Jacksonville.

She was the former owner and operator of Sadler’s Restaurant.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, June 2 at Autry Funeral Home.

James Nunnally

Services for James Nunnally, 83, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2 at Lloyd James Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Luna officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.

Mr. Nunnally died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 in Tyler.

He was born April 20, 1924 in Jacksonville.

Visitation is from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, June 1 at Lloyd James Funeral Home.

Helen Deloise Davis Williams

Services for Helen Deloise Davis Williams, 61, of Jacksonville, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church in Bullard, Rev. Donald Hampton, Supt. Arthur Boone, Rev. Marcus Jackson and Rev. Pierce officiating.

Burial will be in Williams Funeral Home.

Mrs. Williams died Friday, May 25 in Tyler.

She was born Jan. 5, 1946 in Palestine.

She was a graduate of Fred Douglas High School and attended the Tyler Junior College nursing program. She was an LVN at East Texas Medical Center and was a member of Greater New Zion Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, grandparents, one sister and one brother.

She is survived by sons Donald Williams of Jacksonville, Ronald (Sehmeka) Williams of Flint and Rickey Campbell of Jacksonville; daughters Pamela Taylor of Jacksonville and Rochelle Jenkens of Tyler; sisters Mrs. Alberta (Arthur) Boone of Fort Worth and Mrs. Verna Donald of Fort Worth and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Bowie, Jerry Spikes, Calvin Christopher, Tyacen Green, David Thomas, Jerel Spikes, Tavin Spikes and Jose Stewart.

Honorary pallbearers are Sharon Stroupe, Curtis Christopher, Andrew Christopher, Darren Rogers, Brandon Bircher, O.J. Thomas, James Green, Donald Williams, Ronald Williams and Willie Thomas.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Friday at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel.

Vera Fuller

Services for Vera Fuller, of Jacksonville, are pending with Mercy/McGowan Funeral Home of Jacksonville. Mrs. Fuller died Thursday, June 1, 2007, at Trinity Mother Frances-Tyler.

One of the bright, shining stars of Jacksonville faded from our lives Thursday, May 31, 2007.

Elizabeth Sadler, affectionately known as “Liz,” left behind a legacy of warm friendships, loving family and fond memories.

She used her strong work ethic in the family-owned business (Sadler’s Restaurant), that she co-owned with her husband “Monk” for 36 years.

Witty, independent, talented and just fun to be around, she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. The word “impossible” was not in her vocabulary, which was passed down to her children and grandchildren.

Liz was an avid golfer, played duplicate bridge and enjoyed many years singing in the Chancel Choir at First United Methodist Church, where she was a member.

Liz was preceded in death by her husband, Elton F. “Monk” Sadler; her grandson, Keith Loftin; and her great-grandson, Michael Trotter.

Survivors include: Son and daughter-in-law; Robert and Sheila Sadler, daughters and sons-in-law; Jan and Doug Gowin, Gerry and Connie Stovall and Susan Sadler May, 7 grandchildren and 9 Great-grandchildren, and special caregivers; Shirley Davis, Ruby Hinton, Imogene Adams & Brenda Starling.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2007, at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Faulk Landrum, the Rev. Dr. Tony Cleaver and the Rev. Kevin King officiating. Burial will be at Jacksonville City Cemetery under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 2, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Robert J. Gowin, Kenneth Loftin, Brian D. Gowin, Ryan Sadler, Toby Gowin, Kirk Sadler, Tony Harrison and Lindy Nichols.

Ruby Temple Cariker

Ruby Temple Cariker of Jacksonville, age 103, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2007, ending a joyful, industrious and devout Christian life. She loved and cared about people-and had a special affinity for children.

Mrs. Cariker was born in Earle’s Chapel on October, 2, 1903, to Robert F. and Leavie Temple. She lived in Palestine with her paternal grandmother, Virginia Carnell Temple, before beginning school in Reese. There, her parents raised her with her late brothers-Jim Temple of Carrollton; Bart Temple of Beaumont; Howard Temple of Jacksonville; and Woodrow Tempe of Dallas-and her late sister, Mildred Etheridge of Reese.

On December 4, 1920, Ruby Temple married J.R. Cariker. They lived in several Texas towns for brief periods while he drilled oil and gas wells, but would always return to Jacksonville. They owned a grocery store on West Commerce St. during the Depression.

Mrs. Cariker devoted herself to raising their daughters, Wanda and Jean. Her greatest pleasures were cooking and caring for her family. Once her daughters had left home, she began working at Marja Manufacturing Co. as a seamstress in 1948 and continued until her retirement in 1965.

In 1953, the Carikers bought a farm on the Corinth Road, where they raised livestock and delighted in entertaining their grandchildren and great-grandchildren .

She taught Bible classes at the Corinth Road Church of Christ in Jacksonville and was credited by several students for bringing them to faith. She was a member of the Bullard Church of Christ at the time of her passing.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at Resthaven Memorial Park. A visitation with the family will follow the service at the family residence. Arrangements are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cariker was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, J.R. Cariker; her daughter, Jean Taylor and her great-grandson, Brandon Barker.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Paul Haws of Jacksonville, and four grandchildren: Janice Barker and her husband, Michael of Pasadena, CA.; Rebecca Hodges; and her husband, Byron, of Houston; Heber Taylor III of Galveston; and Jeff Taylor of Searcy, AR. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter, Gracie Barker, of Pasadena, CA., and her son-in-law, Heber Taylor II of Searcy.

Memorials can be made in her memory to the Brandon Barker Memorial Fund at the John Tracy Clinic, 806 W. Adams Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. 90007 (an institution for children with hearing impairments), or Medina Children’s Home, 21300 State Hwy 16 N, Medina, Texas 78055-3808.

Verna Berry Fuller

Funeral services for Verna Berry Fuller, 81, of Jacksonville will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5 at Sweet Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Hinton officiating under the direction of Mercy/McGowan Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Jacksonville City Cemetery. Viewing will take place at Mercy/McGowan Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m.

Dorothy Jean Kennedy Acker

Funeral services for Dorothy Jean Kennedy Acker will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2007 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home, Jacksonville, Texas with Chaplain John Frank Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park, Jacksonville, Texas

Dorothy Jean Kennedy Acker passed away on June 3, 2007 after a long illness.

Dorothy was born on December 4, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, Texas. She spent her early childhood years in Winfield. Her family later moved to Dialville where she attended high school.

She married John (Mike) Acker, also of Dialville, on March 22, 1947. Dorothy and her family moved to Dallas in 1964. In 1967 she began her career in the savings and loan industry. When she retired in 1987 she served as Assistant Vice President of First Garland Savings. During her 20 year career Dorothy was a member of many professional organizations, including the Garland Chamber of Commerce, Garland Federation of Women’s Clubs, and Soroptimist International of Garland, where she served as president in 1982-1983.

She also served as a director for the North Texas Savings and Loan Institute of Financial Education for three years.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of sixty years, John (Mike) Acker, her brother, A.J. Kennedy and his wife, Burney, of Jacksonville, and her children, Rodney and Judy Acker and Susan Nash, all of Dallas. Five grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive her.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of personal choice.

Kenneth Ray Oakley

Graveside services for Kenneth Ray Oakley, 76, of Jacksonville will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 7 at Meador Cemetery in Jacksonville with the Rev. George Folmar and Rev. Corbie Grimes Officiating under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Mr. Oakley died Saturday, June 2, 2007 at his residence.

He was born Feb. 1, 1931.

Gloria Hale Walding

Services for Gloria Hale Walding, 69, of Jacksonville, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Autry Funeral Home with the Rev. Jan Pate officiating. Burial will take place at Earle's Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Walding died Monday in Athens. She was born Nov. 24, 1937 in Jacksonville. She is proceeded in death by her husband, Jack and her daughter, Sheila McFarland.

Survivors her son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Tenna Walding of Jacksonville; daughters and son-in-law, Bonnie Scoggins of Athens, Donna and Guy Tadlock of Eustace; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers, Glen Hale of Whitehouse and David Hale of Rusk; sister Virginia Hammons of Jacksonville and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include Randy Faulk, Jay Jones, Dalton Walding, Aaron Loden, Michael Tadlock, Bryan Tadlock and Guy Tadlock.

Honorary Palbearers include Glen Hale and David Hale.

Jorene Gullion Smith

Graveside services for Jorene Gullion Smith, 91, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 7 at Jarratt Cemetery near Gallatin, with Bro. John Greene of Lufkin officiating.

Visitation for Jorene will be held from 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, June 7, at Autry Funeral Home.

Jorene was born in Gallatin, Texas on November 22, 1915 and went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 5, 2007 in Lufkin.

Jorene lived in and around East and South Texas most of her younger life, but in later years she and her husband, Gene, settled in Jacksonville. She retired from the Jacksonville School District where she worked in the cafeterias for 12 years. Four years ago she moved to Lufkin to be near her son and daughter-in-law. “Jo” was extremely active and self sufficient until a few weeks before her death. Her passions were cooking and shopping with her nieces and daughter-in-law. The highlight of her week was to cook lunch for her son Edsel.

Jo was preceded in death by her husband Gene, her parents Robert and Florence Gullion, brother Earl and sisters Hazel and Janie.

She is survived by her only son Edsel and his wife Judy of Lufkin, her grandson Wayne of Louisiana and his wife Jennifer and two step-great-grandchildren, Joshua and Allison.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Pattillo, Bobby Kindle, Robert Kindle and Woody Doyle.


Kenneth Ray “Sonny” Oakley

Graveside services for Kenneth Ray “Sonny” Oakley, 76, of Jacksonville will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 7 at Meador Cemetery, Jacksonville, with Rev. George Folmar and Rev. Corbie Grimes officiating.

Services are under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Mr. Oakley died Saturday, June 2, 2007 at his residence.

He was born February l, 1931 in Fannin County, TX.

He was a tire salesman and a member of the U. S. Air Force for 12 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Buress Oakley and Ida Rose Harris Oakley and brother, James Calvin Oakley.

Mr. Oakley is survived by his wife Jeannie Oakley of Jacksonville, step-sons Marvin George, Jr. and wife, Cathy of Jacksonville, Tony Lynn Alverson of Richmond, daughters Susan Kay Martinez and husband, Oscar, Sr. of Laredo, Sarah Redford of Jacksonville, Carla McNertney and husband, Mac of Frankston and Marsha Jones of Jacksonville; brothers Thomas Oakley and wife, Nancy of Fort Worth; 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation is from 6– 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 6 at Thompson Funeral Home.

Odie Lee Bounds

Odie Lee Bounds, born December 14, 1911 near Lufkin, passed to her heavenly reward June 5, 2007 after an illness following hip replacement surgery. A retired Texas teacher with 47 years of teaching (also Interscholastic League Number-Sense Coach), she lived in Jacksonville from 1977 until 2005 when she moved to Tacoma, Washington to live with her only child, Helen Holcombe. Mrs. Bounds was a member of Craft Baptist Church, a Girls’ Missionary Auxiliary Counselor for 40 years, and a Sunday School teacher for at least 70 years. A member of AAUW, Odie Lee received a BA from Stephen F. Austin University and a MS from San Marcos State University. For about 60 years she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Jacksonville.

Deceased before her was her husband of 61 years, George E. Bounds and her parents, Mary Helen and Charlie Greenwood Price of Lufkin. She is survived by her daughter Helen and her son-in-law Mike Holcombe, of Tacoma, Washington, four grandchildren, Jaena AlMallah of Irbid, Jordan, Mark Holcombe of Texarkana, Arkansas, Lee Margaret Winkler, and George Holcombe, both of Tacoma, Washington, great-grandchildren, Sarah Helen and Beth AlMallah, and Michael Renee and Emily Rose Holcombe and four nephews.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 7 at Thompson’s Funeral Home in Jacksonville with funeral services Friday at 11 a.m. followed by graveside services at Jarratt Cemetery near Jacksonville. Reverend Leon Ross, Pastor of Craft Baptist Church is officiating with Reverend David Smith, Associate Pastor assisting.

Henry Sonny Cannon Jr.

Services for Henry Sonny Cannon Jr., 79, of De Sota, Texas, formerly of Rusk, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the New Generation Baptist Church, with Pastor Robert Hall, Elder Winston Cannon, the Rev. Clifton Reagan and the Rev. H.C. Whitaker officiating, under the direction of Williams Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rock Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Cannon died Friday, June 1, 2007, in Dallas. He was born Sept. 10, 1927, in Cherokee County. He attended public school in New Summerfield. Cannon was a former member of Rock Hill Presbyterian Church and an active member of New Generation Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Visitation will be 7:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, June 8, at the funeral home.

Homer Douglas Higgins

Funeral services for Homer Douglas Higgins, 73, are scheduled for Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Autry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Calvin Gould officiating. Burial will follow in Jarratt Cemetery. 

Mr. Higgins died on Thursday, June 7, 2007 in Jacksonville.  Mr. Higgins was born in Taladega, Alabama on March 26, 1934 to Revy & Flora Higgins.  Homer retired from TXU as a foreman in 1996 after 30 years.  He served in the Army and was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church and loved riding horses.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jo Ann Higgins, six brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lynn Higgins, sons and daughter-in-law, Tony and Donna Tucker of Jacksonville; Don Littlejohn of Rusk; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Joseph Gauldin, Reba Gail and Doug Wright, Eastabuga of Alabama and Donna Littlejohn of Rusk; six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Reva Higgins, Billy Higgins, Glenn Higgins of Alabama, A.B. Higgins of Lake Palestine, Harold Higgins, Greenville and Cecil Higgins of Whitehouse; and a sister, Helen Parker of Alabama and several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Gerald Clayton.

Pallbearers will be Frank Waits, Donny Moore, James Morris, Gerald Clayton, Wayne Thompson and Joe Massey.  Honorary pallbearers will be Leonard Dowling, James Capehart, Ernest Arrington and Johnny Dowling. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, June 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Doris Marie Vickers

Doris Marie Vickers, born May 14, 1922; Passed away June 8, 2007.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Warren and Cecile Hanchett and Brother Ray Hanchett of Port Arthur and son Gary Vickers of Lake Jackson.

She is survived by her husband Vidman Vickers of Lake Jackson; daughter Vicki Langham and her husband Mark of Jacksonville, Daughter in Law Cheryl Vickers-Epps of Lake Jackson; grandchildren Brad Vickers and wife Misty of Houston, Bryn Vickers of Hollywood, Ca., Jason Henderson of Jacksonville and Carrie Parsley and husband Jeffrey of Troup; great Grandchildren Jordan, Emorie, and Cooper Parsley, and Nicole Henderson.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Golden, Paul Larson, George Koenig, Bill Logan, Scott Weldon, Jeffrey Parsley, Harold Crone.

Azelle Shaver

Services for Azelle Shaver, 85, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Autry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Carroll officiating under the direction of the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Rose Lawn Park in Palestine.

Mrs. Shaver died Wednesday, June 6 in Tyler. She was born Feb. 17, 1922 in Spring Dell. She was a faithful member of Sunset Baptist Church and the Red Hats Society.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years L.B. (George) Shaver, parents Eli and Addie Feutral and Brothers Sam, Ross, J.D., Earl and Jim Feutral.

Survivors include her son Mike Shaver of Elkart, daughters Pat Cooper of Deleon and Dinia Chambless of Jacksonville, grandchildren Misty Dudley, Justin Chambless, Ed, Keith and Jason Fails, Justin Shaver and Jennifer Ballew, great grandchildren, twin sister Jerry Burt and sisters Mary Williams, Grace Griffin and Murle Stuckey and several nieces and nephews.

Her grandsons will be the pallbearers.

Mrs. Temple, 97, was born September 4, 1909 in Cherokee County to John and Lola Loper and passed away June 11, 2007 at Oakwood Manor in Vidor, Texas.

She is survived by grandsons, Wayne Phillips and wife Micki of Vidor and David Phillips and wife Joyce of Pt. Neches; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband R. B. “Bart” Temple; daughter Virginia Ruth Temple and daughter and son-in-law, Edna Sue and Carl L. “Buddy” Phillips.

Shirley Lewis

Funeral services for D.H. (Damon) Evans, 83, of Jacksonville, will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 20 at Still Waters Memorial Gardens with Robert Fannette and Lee Kodet officiating under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Burial will take place after the funeral at Still Waters.

Mr. Evans died Saturday, June 16 in Jacksonville. He was born Feb. 15, 1924 in Junction. He served aboard the USS Lander during WWII and worked for many years in construction.

He is preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of 57 years, Hazel; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Phillip Evans and his wife, Ardith, Roy Evans and his wife Lena, Doyle Evans and his wife, Vicki, Dean Evans and his wife, Shelly and Denny Evans; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Nancy and Robert Fannette, Rita and Lee Kodet, Leta Evans and Teresa (Pooh) Evans; one brother, Paul Evans; four sisters, Lottie Cabler, Nina Lyde, Mamie Dickens and Linda Hill; 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 5 step great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers for the service will be Mr. Evans' grandsons and his granddaughters will be honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Howland died Friday June 15, 2007 at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. She was born July 15, 1938 in Hattiesburg, Ms. She was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church

She is preceded in death by her husband Jerry Lee Howland. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry L. Howland, Jr. and his wife Lori; Scott A. Howland and his wife Linda; daughter and son-in-law, Terry Lynn Howland and her husband Jerry; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include John Prewitt, Bill Duggan, Craig Garner, Larry Garner, Dale Stolz and Ted Hunt.

Funeral services for D.H. (Damon) Evans, 83, of Jacksonville, will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 20 at Still Waters Memorial Gardens with Robert Fannette and Lee Kodet officiating under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Burial will take place after the funeral at Still Waters.

Mr. Evans died Saturday, June 16 in Jacksonville. He was born Feb. 15, 1924 in Junction. He served aboard the USS Lander during WWII and worked for many years in construction.

He is preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Mrs. Ada Lindsey

Funeral services for Mrs. Ada Lindsey, 88, of Rusk, will be held Tuesday, July 19 at Mount Olive Baptist Church with Rev. K.B. Clater officiating.

Burial will be in the Holly Spring Cemetery near Rusk under the direction of Williams Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lindsey died June 14 in Rusk.

She was born Jan. 1, 1919 in Elkhart, Texas where she attended public schools.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Juanita (Jessie) Simmons of Rusk; one son and daughter-in-law, Jessie (Patricia) Lindsey of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Sammy Wayne Allen, Elvin Allen, Kevin Stephens, Lonnie Gipson, Antowan Smith and Dedtrick Smith.

Honorary pallbearers are Lepolean Atkins and Reginald Dickerson.

G.L. Skinner

Funeral services for G.L. Skinner, 57, of Alto, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 22 in the Weeping Mary Baptist Church with Rev. Ike Wiley and Rev. Herman Martin officiating.

Burial will be in the St. Thomas Chapel under thr direction of O.T. Allen and Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Skinner died Saturday in Alto surrounded by his family and friends. He was born August 3, 1949 in Alto to G.W. and Ardie Pope Skinner. He attended school at Booker T. Washington, Fidelity Manor and Alto High School. Mr. Skinner was an active member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Houston until he moved back to Alto and became a dedicated and faithful member of Weeping Mary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, assistant superintendent, youth Sunday School teacher, choir president, WMBC Brotherhood, committee officer of the area Brotherhood and a member of the Ministry Alliance until his death.

He worked at the Rusk State Hospital in security for many years and then worked for Duplichain Contractors until his health failed. He served as a school board member at Alto High School from 2000 to 2007.

He was preceded in death by his father G.W. Skinner, step-mother Ola Mae Skinner, step-father B.J. Thacker, father-in-law James L. Green and two grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years Rosie Skinner of Alto; his mother Ardie Thacker of Alto; his mother-in-Law Rostene Green of Alto; daughters Camille Green of Alto and G’Undra Skinner of Alto; his sons Joshua Skinner of Alto, Stancy Skinner of Alto and Jeremy Skinner of Alto; his grandchildren Tyrus, Sharenza, Tyran, Kim, Joshua Jr., Yoshira, Carenza, Jadarion, Jaydon and Londyn; his sisters and brothers-in-law Laura Holmes of Alto, Margie Skinner of Alto, Gloria Skinner of Houston, Brenda and Tommy Griffin of Longview, Carolyn and Gabe Frazier of Alto and Crystal Sterling of Shreveport; his brothers and sister-in-law Charles Skinner of Alto, Saira “Pig” Thacker of Alto, George and Della Skinner of Houston, Elmo Thacker of Alto; his very special friends Greg and Betty Duplichain and family, Tyrone Johnson, Ronesha Smith and Laquisha Foster and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends; his sisters-in-law: Peggy Green, Paula Pope and Pamala Black; his brothers-in-law: Vern Green and Willis Green and his special niece whom he raised as his own, Jalane Green.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patsy Jane Martin.

He is survived by his son John C. Martin, III and his wife Gloria of Gallatin; sisters: Eunice DeWitt of Concordia, KS and Armilda Grosenick of Lakewood, Colorado; granddaughters Crystal Lee Slaton and her husband Brent of Allen, Texas, Sarah Michelle Martin of Flint and great grandchild Ryder Allen Slaton of Allen.

She was employed as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services in Tyler and was a member of the Mount Selman Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy (Dottie) Ellison and step mother Jo Hellner Ellison.
