Neta Jewell McDaniel Bishop
Services for Neta Jewell McDaniel Bishop, 61, of Jacksonville, will be at 2
p.m., Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Cole
and the Rev. Cary Ponder officiating, under the direction of Autry Funeral Home
of Jacksonville.
Burial will be at Earle’s Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Bishop died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, in Jacksonville. She was born Aug. 29,
1945, in Jacksonville.
She was a sewing machine operator for 16 years at Sandbox Ind. and worked at
Brookshire Brothers in Jacksonville. She was a member of First Baptist Church in
Mixon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Hazel McDaniel, three
brothers, Hubert McDaniel, Aubrey McDaniel, Johnny McDaniel; sister, Reba
Jenkins; and granddaughter, Rechel Benge.
Survivors include Howard Bishop of Jacksonville; daughters and sons-in-law,
Ronda and Jason Myers, Tana and Billy Beaver and Becky and Shannon McGarity;
grandchildren, Jarett Johnson and Lisa, Myranda Gilmore and Jason, Jeremy
Johnson, Ronnie Rodgers Jr. Krystal Benge, Cody Cox, Rachel Benge, Chad Rodgers,
Patrick Rodgers, Joshua McGarity, Brittany McGarity, Jessica McGarity, Kayla
Myers, Dustin Myers and Austin Myers; and great-grandchildren, Taylor Johnson,
Justin Stare and Catilyn Gilmore.
Pallbearers include Jarett Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Ronnie Rodgers Jr., Chad
Rodgers, Cody Cox and Patrick Rodgers.

Ora Fay Tolbert
Services for Ora Fay Tolbert, 98, of Jacksonville, will be at 1 p.m., Friday,
Feb. 2, 2007, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Buck Newsome
officiating, under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Jacksonville.
Burial will be at Providence Cemetery.
Mrs. Tolbert died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at her residence. She was born Aug.
15, 1908, in Craft. She was a retired school teacher at JISD, Craft and
Dialville with 39 years of service as a teacher. She was a member of D.A.R. and
AARP and an active member of St. John’s Methodist Church in Jacksonville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, V.F. Wallace, parents; step-daughter,
Amelea Slusher; brothers, Clarence Wallace, C.W. Wallace, J.A. Wallace, M.O.
Wallace, A.B. Wallace and W.D. Wallace and sisters, Flora Lewis and Minnie Mae
Jones.
Survivors include two step-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and
numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers include Robert Ivy, Darrell Wallace, B.R. Wallace, B.T. Wallace,
David Wallace and Matthew Wallace.
Honorary pallbearers include Jasper Lewis, M.E. Wallace and Alvie Jones.

Jesse Clyde Cook
Graveside services for Jesse Cook will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, at Jarratt
Cemetery with Dr. Charles Swilling, pastor of the Rocky Springs Baptist Church
officiating under the direction of Boren-Conner Funeral Home of Jacksonville.
Jesse Clyde Cook was born Nov. 11, 1938, in Jacksonville and died Jan. 23, 2007,
in Jacksonville at his residence.
He had retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service and had served in
the Vietnam War. He was also retired from the Jacksonville Independent School
District and was currently employed by Cardinal Health Services with 16 years of
service. He was a Baptist, a driver for Meals on Wheels for many years and a
member of the genealogical society.
Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Corley Cook, father, Morris Cook,
and uncle and aunt, Archie and Helen Cook, all of Jacksonville.
Jessie is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Marshall Ray and Elizabeth
Cook of Salinas, Calif., one sister, Velma Ann Cook of Palestine, and a cousin,
Donna Cook Taylor of Jacksonville.
J.C. as he was known by his family, was a loving brother, a loyal friend and
good neighbor. He loved his family and friends and was always willing to help
someone in need and will be remembered as a good Christian man.
Billy Wayne Little
Services for Billy Wayne Little, 63, of Frankston, will be at 2 p.m., Saturday,
Feb. 3, 2007, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with the Rev. George
Folmar officiating, under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of
Jacksonville.
Mr. Little died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007 at his residence. He was born Nov. 10,
1943, in Houston.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., today at the funeral home in Frankston.

Sybil Vaughan Dickey
Sybil Vaughan Dickey, of Bullard, passed away Jan. 31, in Dallas after a lengthy
illness. She was born Jan. 28, 1946, to Verdell and Lois Vaughan.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 3, at Autry Funeral Home
Chapel, with Dan Manuel, Donnie Barron and Glen Cogburn officiating.
Burial will follow at Bullard Cemetery.
Mrs. Dickey was employed at Joe Wright Elementary School in Jacksonville for 13
years. She was an active member of Ponta Church of Christ and was an avid
supporter of the Walk for Life.
She is survived by her husband, Louis Dickey, Bullard; one son and
daughter-in-law, Craig and Brenda Dickey, Troup; three grandchildren, Kaleb,
Tyler and McClane Dickey, Troup; brothers and sisters-in-law, Connie and Karen
Vaughan, Bullard and Freddie and Tammy Vaughan, Troup; one sister and
brother-in-law, Sallye and Terry Cowan, Bullard; and several nieces and nephews.
Also her extended family, Sara and Lamar Slover, Laura and Sarah Dupree, Chance
and Charlie Moore, and Mason and Taylor Fredrick; and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jackie Slover, Scott Moore, Wade Fredricks, Doug
Dupree, Charles Ray and Gary Tipton.
Honorary pallbearers are Wilson Folden and Jim Franklin.
Visitation will begin today, with family receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m., at
the funeral home.

Ethyl McAnally
Services for Ethyl McAnally, 92, of Jacksonville, will be at 1 p.m. Monday,
Feb. 5, 2007, at the Old City Cemetery, with Rev. Robert L. Collins and Rev.
Paul Bonner officiating under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.
Mrs. McAnally died Feb. 2, 2007, in a local nursing home. She was born March 7,
1914, in Jacksonville. She retired from nursing after 53 years working at
Newburn Hospital in Jacksonville. She was a member of Antioch Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John M. McAnally; her granddaughters,
Stephanie McAnally and Reann Cooper; and her grandson, Eddie McAnally.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Beverly McAnally of
Willis, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Johnny and Barbara Johnson of
Montgomery, Texas; her sister, Opal Rachel of Jacksonville; her niece and
husband, Robert and Patsy Collins of Jacksonville; her nephew and wife, Billy
and Sandra Partin of Jacksonville; her daughter-in-law, Geneva McAnally of New
Caney; her six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and six
great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at the funeral home.

Graveside services for Bettye Lambright, 66, of New Summerfield, will be at 11
a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at Meador Cemetery with the Rev. Donnie Sadler

Burial will follow at Meador Cemetery.
Mrs. Lambright died Feb. 5, 2007, in New Summerfield. She was born Oct. 13,
1940, in Jacksonville.
She was a Home Health nurse.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Lambright of New Summerfield; son, David
Bailey of Danbury; daughters, Sheila Bailey of Houston and Claire Lambright of
Houston; grandchildren, Vincent Warwick, Brittney Bailey, Austin Bailey and
Christy Bailey; brother, J. T. Honea of Pasadena; and special friends, Al Rico
of Houston and Peggy Sue Trammell of Danbury.
Curtis Ray Goff
Services for Curtis Ray Goff, 40, of Mount Selman, formerly of Tyler, are
scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral
Home Chapel in Rusk with Rev. Jerry Carroll officiating.
Burial will be at Old Palestine Cemetery, under the direction of
Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.
Mr. Goff died Feb. 3, 2007, at his residence. He was born May 3, 1966, in
Palestine.
He was a resident of Mount Selman formerly of Tyler. He was a graduate of John
Tyler High School. He was a delivery driver for Flowers by Lou Ann in Tyler.
He is preceded in death by his father, Clarence Ray Goff in 2001.
He is survived by his wife Andrea Goff of Tyler, mother, Patsy Goff of
Jacksonville, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jo Ann and Don Cooper of Lindale,
Janis and Clarence Jackson of Jacksonville, two nieces, Natalie Cooper of Tyler
and Jessica Jackson of Jacksonville; and one nephew, William Jackson of
Birmingham, Ala.
Pallbearers will include Don Cooper, Clarence Jackson, Eddie Burns, Teddy Burns,
Glenn Waller and William Jackson.

Robert J. Dudley (Bobby)
Robert J. Dudley (Bobby), 69, passed away peacefully from this world to God’s
loving arms Monday, Feb. 5, 2007.
Bob was born Aug. 3, 1937, to Edward and Thelma Dudley in Jacksonville, Texas,
but had lived in Dallas for 41 years. He is preceded in death by his father,
Edward.
Bob was a builder his entire life starting out with his father. After moving to
Dallas, Bob formed his own general construction company; development; and
masonry companies; and also was a home builder; consultant for F.D.I.C. and
R.T.C. and numerous banks. In his latter years, he and wife did design builder
home projects.
He was an active and dedicated Christian, seeking to deepen his walk with the
Lord. He found great joy in being of service to his church community, and taught
adult Sunday school classes, was a lay pastor, senior lay pastor and eventually
a district pastor. He understood the grace and mercy of God in a fresh way the
past five years. His constant prayer was that his entire family would walk in
faith.
Bob lives on in the hearts of his wife of 32 years Maxine Dudley; his daughter
Brenda Porter and husband Richard; his sons Brad Dudley and Barry Dudley and
wife Jayne; stepson Brent Young and wife Kristi; his beloved grandchildren Nick
and Sarah Beth Porter; Beau and Bennet Dudley; Brock and Taylor Dudley; Blake
and Bailey Young; his mother Thelma Dudley; his sisters Mary Lynn Harper and
Tricia Dudley; and other extended family and longtime friends; and all of us
whose lives he so uniquely touched.
Pallbearers will be: Burr Davis, Wayne Dudley, Luther Jackson, Elray Meyers, Ed
Smith and Nelson Wall.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at Jarratt
Cemetery in Jacksonville. Dr. Morris Sheats will be officiating the service.
Memorial services are set for 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at Epiphany
Episcopal Church, 421 Custer Rd. in Richardson.

Clifford Abrams
Services for Clifford Abrams, 75, of Jacksonville, will be at 2 p.m., Sunday,
Feb. 11, 2007, at Central Baptist Church, with Dr. Bruce Webb officiating, under
the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
Burial will be at Dallas- Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Mr. Abrams died Feb. 5, 2007, in Jacksonville. He was born July 13, 1931, in
Brawley, Calif.
He was a real estate attorney. He received his law degree from SMU, was a member
of the Lake Jacksonville Dinner Club, a Korean War veteran and attended the
American Military Academy, the Ponca Military Academy and Oklahoma University.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Abrams.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Brenda Abrams of San
Antonio; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Michael Permenter of
Jacksonville; and eight grandchildren, Jordan, Kaelyn, Daniel and Jacob Abrams
of San Antonio; and Marilyn, Macklyn, Mitchell and Monica Permenter of
Jacksonville.

Jacksonville.
Mrs. Burns died Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at a local nursing home. She was born Nov.
11, 1917, in Myrtle Springs. She was raised in the Reynolds Presbyterian Home
for Children in Dallas. She was a retired librarian and a member of Calvary
Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by grandsons, Kyle Burns, Steven Spurger and Eddie
Grimes.
Survivors include son, Jerry Burns and wife, Carolyn of Jacksonville; daughter,
Cynthia Little and husband, Richard of Bullard; seven grandchildren, 18
great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers include Timmy Spurger, Michael Spurger, Jacob Rutledge,
Taylor Burns, Jamie Burns, Joshua Spurger, John Spurger, Jordon Spurger, Joshua

Glenn Hergenrader
A memorial Service for Glenn Hergenrader, 57, of Richmond, will be at 2 p.m.,
Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in
Rosenberg, Texas.
Glenn was born Dec. 24, 1949, in Lincoln, Nebraska to Victor and Mary (Jacobs)
Hergenrader. He played football for the University of Nebraska where he received
his Bachelor’s Degree. Glenn served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of
the American Legion. He belonged to the Greater Houston Coaches Association and
the Texas High School Coaches Association. He loved spending time with his
children and grandsons, fishing and barbecuing. Glenn also loved mentoring,
motivating and being a role model for children. He coached at eight different
schools across Texas and two schools in Nebraska. He passed away Feb. 7, 2007 in
Sugar Land, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Mary Hergenrader.
Glenn is lovingly survived by his wife of 15 years, Sue Hergenrader; daughter,
Tevyan Sorensen and husband, Anton; Son, Sean Gentry and wife, Tonya; Grandsons:
Connor and Colin Gentry; Brother:Allan Hergenrader and wife, Mardell; Nephew:
Dave Hergenrader and wife, Sarah; niece:Jolene Hergenrader; Along with extended
family and numerous fellow coaches, former and current players and many
wonderful friends.

Retha Merle Biscoe
Services for Retha Merle Biscoe, 85, of Tyler and formerly of Bullard, will
be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, with
Rev. Donnie Barron officiating.
Burial will be at Bullard Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Biscoe died Feb. 10, 2007 in Tyler.
She was born Aug. 9, 1921 in Reese, Texas.
She was a homemaker and a member of Bullard Southern Baptist Church.
Mrs. Biscoe was preceded in death by her husband Jerry E. Biscoe.
She is survived by two sons, Paul “Chuck” Biscoe and his wife Suzy of Palestine,
Texas and Jerry Biscoe and his wife Laurie of Kyle, Texas; one daughter, Diane
Bishop and her husband Charles of Pelham, Alabama; five grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Biscoe, Jason Bishop, Jeremy Biscoe, Greg McKeethan,
Jimmy Bain and David French.

Randy Layne
Services for Randy Layne, 70, of Mixon, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13,
2007 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel.
Masonic graveside rites will be conducted at Mixon Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.
Mr. Layne died Feb. 10, 2007 in Tyler.
He was born Nov. 8, 1936 in Smith County, Texas.
Mr. Layne bred and raised horses and was an accomplished horse trainer. He was a
member of St. John’s Masonic Lodge 53 AF and AM, Sharon Temple, Scottish Rite,
was a past president and a current director of the East Texas Appaloosa Horse
Association, was a charter member of the Smith County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse
and was a past member of the Rose City Motorcycle Club. He was a member of Mixon
Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Martha Oldham Layne;
brothers Edward, C.O. and James Oliver Layne and sisters Delores Layne Edwards
and Wilma Layne Hooker.
Mr. Layne is survived by his wife of 40 years Frances Layne of Mixon; sons and
daughters-in-law, Mark R. and Cheryl Lane and John Kirby and Rachel Layne;
daughters and sons-in-law Cindy and Terry Mathis, Pam Layne, Georgia and Dan Day
and Randa Conner; brother Raymond Layne; sister Maudie Calicutt and
sister-in-law Ruth Layne; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, nieces and
nephews and a multitude of friends.
Nephews will be pallbearers and members of the East Texas Appaloosa Horse Club
are honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12 at Autry Funeral Home.

Edwin Earl Pledger
Services for Edwin Earl Pledger, 89, of Houston, went to be with the Lord on
Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007.
Mr. Pledger was born April 14, 1917, in Jacksonville, Texas to James Oliver Earl
Pledger and Mary Melvin Ragsdale Pledger. He served his country faithfully
during World War II in the Merchant Marine Corp. Mr. Pledger attended Lon Morris
Junior College in Jacksonville, Texas and the University of Texas. He married
the former Almeta Carter on Nov. 8, 1941, and she preceded him in death on May
5, 2003. Mr. Pledger worked for Sun Oil for 35 years as a Acquisition
Geophysicist. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Earle’s Chapel
United Methodist Church Cemetery Association, where he served as Treasurer.
His survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Ann Bridges; two sons, Robert Pledger
and his wife Dorothy, and Timothy C. Pledger; two granddaughters, Jennifer
Elaine Pledger Zackary, and Amy Bridges; and four great grandchildren, Katherine
Zackary, Ethridge Zackary, Madison Bridges, and Nathan Bridges.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 6 until 8 p.m.
Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800
Westheimer Road. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, Feb.
15, 2007, at Earle’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Texas.
Interment will follow in Earle’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, in
Jacksonville, Texas.

Services for Jewell Thelma Jenkins, 101, of Jacksonville, will be at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, with Ben Dan Thompson
and Shawn Montandon officiating under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in
Jacksonville.
Burial will be at Henry Cemetery in Gallatin.
Mrs. Jenkins died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at a Jacksonville nursing home. She
was born July 17, 1905, in Anderson County.
She was a homemaker, seamstress, artist and writer. She was a member of Mount
Selman Church of Christ. She was married to Edgar Jenkins, and he preceded her
in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Alphis Cotton, Raymond
Cotton and Ottis Cotton and her sisters, Letha Jenkins, Eleanor Johnson, Jessie
Dement, Ila Harper and Loneta Philen.
Survivors include her daughters, Delores Northen of Jacksonville and Doretha
Thompson and husband, Ben Dan, of Whitehouse; brother, Douglas Cotton and wife,
Betty, of Jacksonville; sister, Jean Allen and husband, Raye, of Jacksonville;
10 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 22 great great grandchildren; and
numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Lorene Edmiston Taylor, 88, of Jacksonville, will be
at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Antioch Cemetery south of Jacksonville,
with the Rev. Andy Fannette officiating.
Services are under the direction of Boren-Conner Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
Mrs. Taylor died Wednesday, Feb. 14. She was born Feb. 18, 1918, to Emmett and
Willie Edmiston in the Antioch Community south of Jacksonville. She was a member
of Antioch Methodist Church. Her husband, Hayden Taylor, preceded her in death
in 1975.
Survivors include four sons: Jerry Taylor and wife, Sue, Larry, Scott and Tommy
and wife,Francine Taylor and a daughter, Judy Taylor Dixon, all of Jacksonville.
Also, a sister, Mrs. Lucille Walker of Bullard, eight grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Newburn died Feb. 14, 2007, in Celina. She was born May 19, 1916, in

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chief Newburn.

Howard Neal Wegmet
Memorial services for Howard Neal Wegmet of Frankston are scheduled for 2 p.m.,
Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at the United Methodist Church Family Life Center in
Frankston with Robert Waldman and Doug Howell officiating, under the direction
of Thomspon Funeral Home of Frankston.
Mr. Wegmet died Feb. 14, 2007, in Tyler. He was born Dec. 25, 1921, in
Independence, Kansas to Joseph and Clarice Springer Wegment.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1961, retiring as a Lt. Commander. He
first served as a Navy aviation radioman and after receiving his wings, he
served as an aircraft carrier pilot and saw combat off the coast of North
Africa. Howard served on the USS Augusta, USS Midway, US Princeton and the USS
Saratoga. He was one of only a few pilots who received their wings before
becoming an officer entitling him to be a member of the Silver Eagles Enlisted
Pilots organization. He spent much of his later career training jet pilots.
While in service, he completed his education receiving a bachelor of arts degree
from Tulane University. From 1961 to 1982, he served the State of Texas, first
as a school teacher in Jacksonville ISD and later as a pilot for Texas Railroad
Commissioner Jerry Sadler and finally as a state oil and gas landman.
Mr. Wegmet was a member of the Frankston United Methodist Church. He was active
in the United Methodist Men and a member of the Fellowship Class.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Wegmet of Frankston; son, Steve Wegment and
wife, Lu of Jacksonville; daughter, Clarice Kirksey and husband, Hugh of
Frankston; sister, Marge Ramsey of Charleston, Ill.; granddaughter, Kristin
O’Brien of Frankston; and great-granddaughter, Lauren O’Brien; step-son, Richard
Massey of Las Vegas Nev.; and his children, Monty Massey, Nola Massey, Sammy
Massey and Benjamin Massey; and step-daughter, Terry Odom of Jacksonville and
her children, Adam Odom and Selena Odom.

Mr. Earle died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 in Jacksonville.
He was born Sept. 16, 1911, in Jacksonville. He was retired from the federal
service with more than 42 years of employment — thirty-two and one-half years
with the U.S. Department of Agriculture with headquarters in Tyler, Athens or
Palestine. During this period, he continued to reside in Jacksonville, and for
10 years he served as a substitute rural mail carrier for routes two and four in
Jacksonville.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville and the Wesley
Bible Class.
He was married to Lorraine Earle, and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include many good friends including, William and Betty Cameron,
Richard and Sue Ellen Gibson, Gaylon and April Sue Surratt and Billy and Bettye
Guinn.
Earle was the last surviving member of his family.

Aubrey Eugene Sipes
Aubrey Eugene Sipes of Jacksonville, a life-long resident of Texas, was born
April 24, 1927; and died in Tyler Feb. 18, 2007.
Aubrey was born in Dallas. At the age of three, his family moved to East Texas
which he always considered to be home. He served in the military between August
1945 and December 1948, spending time in the Marshall Islands and attaining the
rank of Sergeant in the Air Corp.
Following his military career, Aubrey worked as an iron worker and welder. His
craftsmanship can still be found all over Dallas and East Texas.
Aubrey was preceded in death by his daughter, Aleta Jo Brannon; parents, Richard
and Jimmie Sipes; brother, J. R. Sipes and sisters, Una Witherspoon and Lola
Berry.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Moody Sipes of Jacksonville; sons, Larry E.
Sipes of Fountain, Colo.; and Robert W. Sipes of Grand Saline; sister, Faye
McNair of Dallas; step-sons, James Moody of Porter; Joe Moody and wife, Anne of
Bullard; and Jackie Moody of Mount Enterprise; along with many grandchildren,
great-grandchildren nieces and nephews.
Aubrey was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville; Adult 6 SS
Class; Golden Jubilee; Jacks ‘n Jills Square Dance Club; and ETMC Volunteer
Auxiliary. He enjoyed wood and metal work and raising Confederate Roses, which
he generously shared and planted throughout East Texas.
For 79 years until most recently, he truly enjoyed his life. He was a loving
husband, father and grandfather. His family and friends will miss him.
Pallbearers will include Alvin Coleman, Jim Eyre, Jack Williams, Gerald Gray,
Jimmie Tankersley and Kenneth Melvin.

Bobbie Dell Holcomb Smith
Services for Bobbie Dell Holcomb Smith, 79, of Jacksonville, will be at 2
p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dan
Middleton and the Rev. Cary Ponder officiating, under the direction of Autry
Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Ms. Smith died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at Lake Tyler. She was born March 14,
1927, in Jacksonville. She was an employee of Drug Sav and Eckerds for more than
20 years. She was a member of Mount Selman Methodist Church and a member of the
“Jollies.”
She is preceded in death by her parents, Obie Lee and Donia Hines Holcomb, twin
sister, Billie Strickland, sisters, Ruby Lee Brown, Mildred Shull, Helen Knapp;
brothers, Oscar Holcomb, and Cleo Holcomb.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Thomas Moore of Lake
Tyler; grandson and wife Micah Lee and Misty Roberts of Canton; three
great-grandchildren, Andrew Allen Roberts, Katherine Renee Roberts and Michael
John Roberts, all of Mineola; and sister-in-law, Margaret Holcomb of
Jacksonville.
Pallbearers include Jon Bruckner, Chesley Brown, Bill Shull, Johnny Reagan,
Jerry Oden and Ray Bonner.
Honorary pallbearers are the JHS Class of 1944; Sue Smith and Cindy Christopher.

Services for Ronald (Bubba) Toles Jr., 12, of Chandler, will be at 2 p.m.,

Burial will follow at Edom Cemetery.
Ronald (Bubba) died Feb. 20, 2007, at Hospice of East Texas. He was born Dec.
18, 1994, in Quitman.
Survivors include his parents, Ronald and Tammy Toles of Chandler; grandparents,
(fraternal) William J. (deceased) and Stella Toles; and (maternal) Martin (Nat)
Lusk and Elsie Grogan; sisters, Chaela Lusk and Natalie Lusk, both of Chandler;

Services for Rosemary Holman Diers, 59, of Jacksonville, will be at 10 a.m.,
Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at Autry Funeral Home Chapel with Newton Hambrick
officiating, under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
Burial will be at Still Waters Memorial Gardens.
Ms. Diers died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, in Tyler. She was born Oct. 5, 1947, in
Jacksonville. She was a former teacher and a member of Tyler Street Baptist
Church. She was a graduate of Texas State University in San Marcus.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Kent Holman.
Survivors include her parents, Luman and Rosemary Holman of Jacksonville; son
and daughter-in-law, Scott and Rhonda Diers of Jacksonville; daughter and
son-in-law, Monica and Matt Wakefield of Bullard; brothers and sisters-in-law,
Wade and Betty Holman of Jacksonville; Charles and Jodi Holman of Jacksonville;
sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Bobby Holder of Jacksonville; Nancy and
Tony Bolton of Jacksonville; Diane and Bruce Stripling of Bullard;
sister-in-law, Patsy Holman of Dallas; six grandchildren, Payton Diers, Ruston

Kenneth Wayne Crayton
Services for Kenneth Wayne Crayton, 53, of the Corinth Community in Bullard will
be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church with
the Rev. Londa Davis officiating, under the direction of Community Funeral Home
in Jacksonville.
Burial will be at the Corinth Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Crayton died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, in Bullard. He was born April 25, 1953,
in Jacksonville. He attended Bullard Elementary and High School and was a
life-time resident of Bullard and the Cherokee County area.
He was a shear operator at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. He was a member of
Corinth Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Corinth Cougars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Odessa Hackney-Crayton.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Williams-Crayton of Bullard; son, Andre’
Crayton of Tyler; Ashley Crayton of Bullard; two brothers, Dennis (Vera) Crayton
of Jacksonville and Gary (Ernestine) Crayton of Tyler; five sisters, Ella Lois
(Charles) Matthews of Dallas; Glenna Fay (Roy) Kelly of Houston; Nyoka Crayton-Mayes
of Bullard; Janice (Devotie) Foggle of Fort Worth and Joyce Crayton of Houston;
and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Larry D. Davis, Charles Thompkins, Charles Flournoy, Gerald
Nelson, Cedric Hackney, James Hackney Jr., Jeffrey Kendrick and Melvin Whitaker.

Mrs. Alwell died Wednesday, Feb. 21, at her residence. She was born Oct. 7,
1933, in Cushing.
She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by husband, Andrew A. Alwell,
son, David A. Alwell and son-in-law, Tom Johnson.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia A. Newman, Teresa L. Bailey and husband,
Jeff, of Houston; Diane M. Johnson of Jacksonville; brothers, Jerry McKnight and
wife, Charlotte of Jacksonville; Max McKnight and wife, Inez of Jacksonville;
sister, Helen Powell of Jacksonville; five grandchildren; one great-grandson;
several nieces and nephews; and other close family members, Anne and Matt Hill
of Houston.

Charles McKnight and David McIntyre.

Jason Andrew Perry
Services for Jason Andrew Perry, 32, of Frankston, will be at 1 p.m., Saturday,

Mr. Perry died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, in Brushy Creek. He was born March 27,
1974, in Dallas.

Graveside services for Carlie C. Shafer, 73, of Rusk are scheduled for 4 p.m.,

Mrs. Shafer died Feb. 22, 2007, at a Rusk nursing home. She was born Feb. 5,
1934, in Carriere, Miss.

Melonye Curtis
Melonye Curtis died in the early hours of Feb. 22, 2007.
She was born Nov. 14, 1936, in Fort Worth to J.D. and Mildred Lowe. She grew up
in Jacksonville and attended Jacksonville schools. She entered the University of
Texas at age 17 and graduated with a BA Degree in education. Later, while
teaching and raising her family, she received her Master’s Degree in education
of early childhood from Texas Women’s University.
Following her graduation from The University of Texas, she married Terry A.
“Booty” Curtis and moved to Amarillo. Melonye’s career course was directed by
her love for young children. Her teaching career began in Austin and she later
taught in Amarillo. She was instrumental at Amarillo’s opportunity school by
helping in every way from teaching to driving the school bus.
In 1979 she started her career at Amarillo College in the early child
development program. She retired as full professor from AC after 26 years. She
developed many innovative new programs and methods which are still in use today
at Amarillo College and other early childhood programs around the state. She was
named Professor Emeritus at Amarillo College in 2006, a proud accomplishment for
Melonye and her family.
Although her calling was for young children, her greatest passion was her family
her hundreds of friends and her beloved dogs, Luke and Gracie. Melonye and Terry
were married for 49 years and have one daughter and one son. She was blessed two
grandchildren who adored their Mammy.
Melonye had many interests and affiliations. Modesty limits the inclusions of
all accomplishments and accolades that she received throughout her lifetime.
Melonye was always an advocate for the underdog and underprivileged and spent
countless hours as a volunteer for many organizations that needed her enthusiasm
and expertise. The impact she had on so many lives over the years was as
far-reaching as the sky, and now Melonye sits on a rainbow.
Survivors include her husband, Terry A. Curtis, daughter, Caytie Martin,
son-in-law, Barry Martin, son, Tom Curtis and grandchildren, Chad and Channing
Martin.
A memorial service for Melonye, 70, will be Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at
Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Marty Loberg, Dr. Terry Hargrave
and Dr. Paul Matney officiating, under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home in
Amarillo. Private burial will follow at Llano Cemetery.

Bettie Elizabeth Christopher
Services for Bettie Elizabeth Christopher, 80, of Alto, will be at 2 p.m.,

Tracy Clater and the Rev. Clifton Reagan officiating, under the direction of O.T.
Allen and Son Funeral Home in Alto.

Mrs. Christopher died Friday in Rusk. She was born Aug. 20, 1926, near Rusk.

Eva Darby
Eva Darby, 91, of New Summerfield passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2007 in
Trinity Mother Frances, Jacksonville. She was born on December 31, 1915 to
Burley and Anna Mae McMeans in New Summerfield.
Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 11 a.m. at
Pinecrest Cemetery in Troup with the Rev. Hank Chandler officiating. Visitation
will begin on Tuesday, February 27, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8
p.m. at Autry Funeral Home.
Mrs. Darby was a homemaker and a retired school teacher. She taught for 10
years in New Hope and 10 years in Troup. Mrs. Darby was known for her braided
rugs, crochet, and china painting. She was a very giving person and shared her
talents with others.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years N. H. Darby,
brother, Paschal McMeans, and sister, Ruby Jewell Whitesides.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Garry Clem,
Jacksonville; sisters, Estelle Shoemaker of Holly Lake Ranch, and Dorothy
Nielsen of Branson, Missouri; her special friend Tommy Ruth Dotson of
Jacksonville; and several nieces & nephews.

Klein Animal Shelter in Jacksonville, or the charity of your choice.
Chance Bates
Services for Chance Bates, 22, of Rusk, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28,
2007, at the First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, with the Rev.
Clifford Taylor officiating, under the direction of Mercy/McGowen Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Providence Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007. The family will
receive friends at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m.
Robert Emmett Terrill Jr.
Robert Emmett Terrill Jr. passed away on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007 after a long
illness. Bob had lived in Dallas since 1946. He was born in Kansas City,
Missouri, March 23, 1923, the son of Robert and Edna Terrill, and was raised in
Guthrie, Oklahoma. He joined the Army Air Corp. Aug. 20, 1941. He served as a
gunner in a B-29 until Oct. 13, 1945. During that time he served in the India
Burma, Central Burma, East Indies, China and Air Offensive Japan campaigns. Bob
had to bail out once when the plane caught fire and was awarded the Air Medal of
Honor five times, as well as, the distinguished Flying Cross. He worked at AT&T
for 36 years until his retirement. He married Joyce Elizabeth Ragsdale June 28,
1950. He loved his family, Texas and the United States of America. He and his
wife raised five children and have eight grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, his daughters Patricia Van Nort, Donna
Terrill, Carol Simms and Kristie Sanguinet, his son Robert Terrill and sister
Helen McMasters.
Funeral services will be held at Earle’s Chapel Methodist Church in Jacksonville
at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007. Visitation will be at the church 30
minutes prior to the service.
Vera Cawthon Roper
Services for Vera Cawthon Roper, 92, of Bullard, were held at 1 p.m. Monday,
Feb. 26, 2007, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Whitehouse, with pastors Bennie
Portwood, Brad Willaims and Bruce Larson officiating.
Burial was at Bullard Cemetery, under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of
Jacksonville.
Mrs. Roper died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007 , at Westwood Nursing Home in Troup. She
was born Sept. 20, 1914, in Bullard. She is preceded in death by her husband
Johnie R. Roper.
Visitation was from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007 at the funeral home.
Melba Marie Sinclair
Melba Marie Sinclair, 65, went to be with her lord on Sunday, February 25, with
her family by her side. She lived her life with courage and dignity, after a
long and courageous battle with cancer. Services are scheduled for Thursday,
March 1, 2007 at 10 a.m. in the Autry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Copeland
and the Rev. Odis Bryan officiating, burial will be in Hendricks Cemetery.
Melba was born in Houston County January 28, 1942 to Albert and Carrie White.
Forty-Nine years ago she married Billy Bob Sinclair and together they were
owners of Sinclair Plumbing Company for 31 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Albert andCarrie White and brothers;
Billy Ray, Robert and Doug White.
She is survived by her husband Billy Bob Sinclair, Rusk, four children; Steve
Sinclair and his wife Earlene, Cushing; David and his wife Dianne, Rusk; RayNell
Sinclair Sosby and her husband David, Rusk; and Tammy Sinclair Chastain and her
husband Alan, Rusk: 10 grandchildren; Lindsey Sinclair Oliver and her husband
Brent, Rusk; Amanda Chastain, Naperville, Ill.; Brandon Sosby, Richardson; Sean
Chastain, Bryan Sosby, Casey Sosby, Kris Sinclair, Kyle Sinclair, and Wesley
Chastain, all of Rusk and Luke Sinclair, Tyler; Sisters: Mary Smith, Zella Smith
and Jimmie Jones all of Rusk; Maureen Jones, Lake Striker and Sharon Wilburn,

and friends.
