EARNEST ALTON YOUNG
Memorial service for Earnest Alton Young, 45, of Nacogdoches was at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Rusk with Pastor Pat Gregg officiating.

Mr. Young died July 26. He was born Aug. 18, 1962 in Rusk. He was a resident of Nacogdoches formerly of Rusk and a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Rusk. He was a cement finisher, a truck driver and attended Rusk High School.

Preceding him in death were his son, Bobby Allen Young; his father, Isaac Rufus Young; and his grandfather, John Henry Hall.

SurvivorsareTorchieMimms, Andy and Kenny; three daughters, Alecia Young of Rusk, Christi Ebarb of Freeport, and Jenna Young of Arkansas; his mother, Zona Hall of Rusk; a brother, Don Young of Rusk; grandmother, Carmel Benson of Rusk; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

WILLIAM L. (BILL) PYLE
Graveside service for William L. (Bill) Pyle, 79, of Baton Rouge, La., formerly of Weches was at 10 a.m. Friday at the Weches Cemetery with Cherokee County Judge Chris Davis officiating. Mr. Pyle died July 29.

He lived most of his life in Louisiana and for the last few years in Baton Rouge.He worked many years as a diesel mechanic, working on heavy equipment.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Joyce Pyle; son, John Bourgeois; sister, Katheryn Jennings; and his parents, Lonnie and Sally Compton Pyle.

Survivors are his wife, Kathy B. Pyle; two daughters, Patti Pyle Tregre and Elizabeth Bourgeois; three sons, William Pyle, Mike Pyle and Bailey Bourgeois; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Maxine Huckeba, Nollie Campbell, Maybell Kellum and Betty Jo Davis; and a brother, Richard Pyle.

RUDOLPH (RUDY) THOMPSON
Graveside service for Rudolph (Rudy) W. Thompson, 57, of Pahrump, Nev., formerly of Jacksonville, was at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Concord Cemetery near Troup with Duane Turner, Andy Cox and Marc Sharp officiating.

Mr. Thompson died Monday, July 28, at his home in Nevada. He was born Feb. 20, 1951 in Texas and was employed in the printing industry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruford Theron Thompson and Louiza Winifred Sharp Thompson; and a niece Rickie Marie Johnston.

Survivors are three sisters; Charlotte and Duane Turner of Hughes Springs, Brenda and Tommy Shuttlesworth of Wake Village and Nell and Jim Buchanan of Longview; a brother, Randy and Betty Thompson of Lovettsville, Va. and special friend and caregiver, Marcia Lovell of Pahrump.

Honorary pallbearers were John Turner, Ricky Brock- Jones, Theron Turner, Chad Brock-Jones, Jason Shuttlesworth and Charlie Shuttlesworth. Autry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

JAMES ROY (JIM) TURNER
Memorial service for James Roy (Jim) Turner, 79, of Rusk will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Caldwell officiating.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. July 21 at the Bishop Chapel of Memories in McAlester, Okla. Burial was at the Chambers Cemetery.

Mr. Turner died July 18. He was born Aug. 19, 1928, in McAlester, to Frank and Rosie Bush Turner. He attended school at Savanna, Okla. and married Joyce Surber Turner on April 28, 1948 in Norman, Okla. He then worked in California for many years and also in the oil fields in Texas.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank and Rosie Turner and a brother, Joe Turner.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Joyce Turner; three daughters and two sons-in law, Carolyn Turner of Bellaire, Rhonda and Jerry Warren of League City, and Cheryl and Tom Dreher of Littleton, Colo.; two sons and daughters-inlaw, Linda and Randy Turner of Canadensis, Penn. and Christy and Russell Turner of Rusk; eight grandchildren, Kala Bauer and her husband Donnie of McKinney, James Whit Turner of Austin, Logan Turner of Austin, Cami Turner of Colorado Springs, Colo., Justin Warren of League City, Luke Turner of Rusk, Jade Warren of League City and Madi Turner of Rusk; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Theda and Hershel Osborne of Drumright, Okla., Billie and Raleigh Harrington of McAlester, Cindy and Kenny Morgan of Claremore, Okla.

CATHERINE SCRUGGS
Funeral for Catherine Scruggs, 56, of Palestine was at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Autry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Grady McDonald officiating. Burial was in Land of Memory in Palestine.

Mrs. Scruggs died Aug. 2. She was born Feb. 15, 1952 in Houston. Preceding her in death were her father, L. E. Hailey and nephew, Michael Hailey.

Survivors are her husband, Mark Scruggs of Palestine; mother, Mabeline Hailey of Maydelle; son, Steven Hight of Wynona; daughter, Tanya Hight of Elkhart; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, William and Kathy Hailey of Gilmer, Bruce Hailey of Maydelle, and David and Doris Hailey of Sherman; sister, Melinda Meadows of Maydelle; seven grandchildren, Kayla Hight, Catherine Ham, Lauren Kuykendall, Alexis Kuykendall, and Tia Allen, all of Elkhart and Brittanie Hight and Alyssa Hight of Rusk.

Pallbearers were Billy Shockley, Chris Hailey, David Ellis, Chad Ellis, Brandon Upshaw and Matthew Byars.

  REGINA MICHELLE WILLIAMS

Funeral for Regina Michelle Williams, 38, of Bullard will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Faith Temple Full Gospel Pentecostal Church in Frankston with Pastor Alice Cumby and Superintendent Donnie Timmons officiating. Burial will be Running Springs Cemetery at Frankston.

Miss Wililams died Friday. She was born April 4, 1970, in Tyler. She graduated from Rusk High School. She was a member of the Shady Grove Church of God in Christ and was a service trainer for Rehab Tech. She served as church secrtary and Sunday school teacher. Her mother, Marilyn Williams preceded her in death.

Survivors are her father, Odell Shamblin Jr. of Frankston; two sons, Jarmon L. Williams and Jamodrike L. Williams, both of Bullard; a daughter, Rakevia S. Mathis of Bullard; a brother, Malcolm Williams of Henderson; a sister, Cassandra Williams of Jacksonville. Pallbearers will be deacons from Shady Grove COGIC and Faith Temple Full Gospel Pentecostal Church. Community Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

JOYCE WOLF
Memorial service for Joyce Wolf, 63, of Rusk will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lexington Place Nursing Home with Chaplin Kenneth Summerville officiating.

Mrs. Wolf died Saturday. She was born Oct. 3, 1944, in Lufkin. She live in Cherokee County most of her life and was a Baptist. She worked as a nurse's aide.

Survivors are a son, Michael Williams of Jacksonville and staff and residents of the nursing home.

DOROTHY LOUISE HENDERSON
Funeral for Dorothy Louise Henderson, 86, of Jacksonville,was at 10 a.m. Thursday at Autry Funeral Home Chapel, Jacksonville. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mrs. Henderson died Aug, 4. She was born July 17, 1922 in Paradise. Mrs. Henderson was a member of Central Baptist Church. She retired after more than 23 years with Beall's as a credit consultant. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile.

Preceding her in death were her parents, John Henry Wooddell and Hattie Myrtle Yingling Wooddell; her husband, Clarence V. Henderson; three brothers, Bruce Wooddell, John Douglas Wooddell and Carlton Wooddell; and sister, Helen Crawford.

Survivors are two sons, Tracy Don Henderson and Thomas Dale Henderson; and one daughter, Judy Kay Garcia; eight grandchildren; and several great-grand children.

KENNETH WAYNE MOAKE
A private family memorial service for Kenneth Wayne Moake, 62, of Alto is pending. Mr. Moake died July 16. He will be buried in a family cemetery.

He was born June 13, 1946, in Alto to Paul B. and Dorothy Bivins Moake.

He lived in Alto for 13 years and had lived most of his life in Houston. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a brick layer.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Leta Mowery; a brother, Rondal Bivins Moake; and his parents, Paul B. and Dorothy Bivins Moake.

Survivors are his wife of 39 years, Virginia Moake of Alto; a son, Ronnie Joseph Moake of Houston; and a granddaughter, Nelly Moake.

RUSSELL DESAULNIERS
Memorial service for Russell Desaulniers, 46, of Jacksonville was at 10 a.m. Monday at the Autry Funeral Home chapel in with the Rev. C. L. Taylor officiating.

Mr. Desaulniers died Aug. 7. He was born Dec. 13, 1961 in Houston.

Mr. Desaulniers was self employed as a carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his mother Patricia Gail Russell Desaulniers.

Survivors are his father and step-mother, Don and Robbie Desaulniers of Angleton; grandmother, Dean Russell of Jacksonville; three brothers; Keith Desaulniers of Mont Alba, James Desaulniers of North Carolina and Craig Brooks of Jacksonville; and a sister, Amy Brooks of Italy.

GLORIA ANN OSBORN
Graveside service for Gloria Ann Osborn 75, of Houston, formerly of Alto, was at 1 p.m. Monday at the Alto City Cemetery with the Rev. Odis Bryan officiating.

Mrs. Osborn died Friday. She was born Nov. 18 1932, in Barbers Hill to Clarence and Anel Watters Colley. She lived in Houston most of her life and was a member of the Houston First Baptist Church. She worked for many years as a medical transcriptionist at Memorial City, St. Luke's and M.D. Anderson hospitals.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Carolyn Oringderff.

Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Michael Powell of Houston; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Laura Osborn of Houston; other sons, Lauren, Lucas and Lowell Powell; and a great-grandchild, Jetson Kolodziej.

JUNE ELIZABETH LIESE CERVENKA
A memorial service for June Elizabeth Liese Cervenka, 84 of Rusk, will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Rusk First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gloria Jennings officiating.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. July 26, at Waco Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Mike Munn officiating. Burial was in Waco Memorial Park Cemetery

Mrs. Cervenka died July 22. She was born Feb. 22, 1924 in Trenton, N.J. to the late Bill and Lillian Fairbanks Lien.

She was a resident of Rusk 30 years and formerly lived in Corpus Christi and Waco. She was a member of Reklaw United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Cervenka was president of the Parents Teachers Association of Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi for several years. She was organizer of many events and honorary Admiral of the Texas Navy. She was employed at Douglas Aircraft and the Red Cross in Washington D.C. during World War II. She was also in charge of the prisoner of war list during World War II.

Preceding her in death was one son, William Rudolph Cervenka.

Survivors are her husband of 63 years, Rudolph J. (Rudy) Cervenka of Rusk; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Grace Cervenka of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Kimberly and Christopher Cervenka of San Antonio, Kevin, Brent and Whitney Cervenka of Corpus Christi; two brothers-in-law and sisters in-law; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside service for Jimmie Rogers Allen, 67, of Wells will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, in the Shooks-Bluff Cemetery near Forrest with Frank Doucette officiating.

JAMES MCCLAIN
Funeral for James Donald McClain, 59, of Jacksonville will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Southside Church of Christ with Philip Strong officiating

Mr. McClain died Aug. 8. He was born Aug. 8, 1949 in Houston.

Survivors include mother, Lynn G. McClanahan; sisters, Brenda Jones of Jacksonville and Judy Cooper of Ohio; and brother, Terry McClanahan of Spring. Arrangements were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

JIMMIE ROGERS ALLEN
Mr. Allen died Saturday. He was born May 25, 1941, in Lubbock to William T. and Eva Davis Allen. He lived in Wells most of his life and was Pentecostal.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, William Nathan Allen and William D. Allen; and sister, Willie Mae Allen.

Survivors are his wife, Gailyn Sue Allen of Wells; a son, Jimmie Rogers Allen II of Wells; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and John Brechbeen of Livingston and Faye and David Coors of Laneville.

Pallbearers will be Jimmie R. Allen II, Anthyony Allen, James Smith, Steven Mettlen, Robert Mettlen, Joshua Bernatine, Sammy Arredon and Jessie Wallace.

ROSE MARY CHRISTOPHER

Funeral for Rose Mary Christopher, 77, of Bullard, was at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. L. Davis officiating. Burial was in Corinth Cemetery.

Ms. Christopher died Aug. 7. She was born Aug. 5, 1931, in Cherokee County and was a Nacogdoches High School graduate. She was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Mose and Bethena Shamblin; her husband, Perry Christopher; one son; two sisters and three brothers.

Survivors are four sons and three daughters-in-law, Clifford and Utherus Boyd Jr., Lemmon Earl Boyd and Kenneth Wayne and Ruby Boyd, all of Bullard and Charles and Pete Boyd of Eureka, Calif.; four daughters and one son-in-law, Ruthie Whitaker of Houston, Jerlene Boyd, Wanda and Felix Abu of Jacksonville and Michelle Boyd of Bullard; a sister, Opal Faye Allen of Kansas City, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Nathan Golden, Henry Cook, Bo Brewer, Fred Bowie and Michael Whitaker. Deacons of the Corinth Baptist Church were honorary pallbearers.

LANE H. REDDEN

Funeral for Lane H. Redden, 75, of Rusk was at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Johnny Emerson officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.

Mrs. Redden died Aug. 17. She was born Oct. 5, 1932, in Otto to the late Henry and Zelda Waltz Hilbert. She was a Rusk resident for 43 years and formerly lived at Marlin. She was a member of Church On The Rock in Rusk and retired from Rusk State Hospital after many years of service.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Lloyd Redden in 1980; and a brother, Buddy Hilbert. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Roland and Dora Redden of Venus and Roger and Laura Redden of Rusk; two daughters and a son-in-law, Rhonda Woodall of Livingston and Rebecca and David Hughes of Rusk; her step-father, Horace Fowler of Troy,; a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Leon Breitkreutz; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Coy and Linda Hilbert of Nolanville, Rex Hilbert of Waxahachie and Marion and Connie Fowler of Troy; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Michael Foster, Jason Foster, Nathan Foster, Cody Wortham, Clifford Redden and Billy Lankford Jr.

FRANK C. BRANDON
Graveside service for Frank C. Brandon, 74, of Denton, formerly of Jacksonville and Grandview was at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Grandview Cemetery with the Rev. Russell Allen officiating.

Mr. Brandon died Wednesday, Aug. 13. He was born Dec. 17, 1933 in Grandview.

He was preceded in death by parents, Avon Allen Brandon and Aubrey Davis Brandon and brothers, Wesley Brandon and Myles Brandon.

Survivors include a sister, Avon Fanning of Shreveport, La.; two nieces; eight nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Arrangements were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

EDNA SMITH

Memorial service for Edna Smith, 92, of Jacksonville will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at Jacksonville First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jack Albright officiating.

Mrs. Smith died Aug. 11. She was born Aug. 9, 1916, in Zelienople, Pa.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Jacksonville First Presbyterian Church, Hyperion Study Club and Church Circle at First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include husband, Billy G. Smith of Jacksonville; daughter and son-in-law, Tolly and Wayne Wildcat of Lawrence, Kan.; brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Leona Zeigler of Elwood City, Pa. and several nieces and nephews

There will be no visitation at the funeral home per request of the family.

BOBBY CAMPBELL

Graveside service for Bobby (Bob) Campbell, 62, of Gallatin was at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Donald Copeland and Father Mark Kusmirek officiating.

Mr. Campbell died Aug. 17. He was born July 21, 1946, in Conroe.

Mr. Campbell was the owner/ operator of an auto parts retail store. He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Campbell.

He is survived by his wife, Pacita Munoz Campbell, of Gallatin; mother, Patricia M Heathman Campbell, of Jacksonville; aunt, Margurite Crane, of Jacksonville; and cousins, Kandy Willoughby, of Houston, David Campbell, of Rusk and Richard Crane, of the Ukraine.

STEVEN EARL LONG

Graveside service for Steven Earl Long, 50 of Magna, Utah was at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, at Providence Cemetery with the Rev. Jack White officiating.

Mr. Long died Aug. 17. He was born April 25, 1958, in Texas City. He was a resident of Magna, Utah for eight years, formerly of Athens for 25 years and Rusk.

He graduated from Rusk High School in 1976. He was a graduate of Texas State Technical Institute in Waco. Mr. Long was a television technician for Airwaves Television Service Repair in Magna, Utah.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Kay Chandler and a brother, Shannon Richardson.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Dustin Earl and April Long of Tyler; a daughter, Danica Linville of Mabank; granddaughter, Raven Long of Tyler; fiancée, Cami Korous of Magna; his parents, Helmer and Linda Long of Corpus Christi; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Keith and Sherrie Long of Corpus Christi and Shawn and Jennifer Richardson of Houston; three sisters and brothers-in law, Lisa and Kirby Smith of Rusk, Shelly and DeWayne Hunt of Corpus Christi and Charmagne and Todd Barber of Midland; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mike and Nikki Korous of Magna; numerous step-children, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Arrangements were under the direction of Wallace- Thompson Funeral Home.

GLADYS A. BLAND COMMANDER

Memorial service for Gladys A. Bland Commander, 90, of Denton, was at 1 p.m. Aug. 25 in the Cindy Nichols Chapel of the Denton First Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Hooper and the Rev. Cliff Feeler officiating.

Private burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Commander died Aug. 21. She was born Dec. 8, 1917, in Cherokee County, Texas to Wilburn Lamourn and Mattie Clara Hicks Bland. She attended public schools in Alto and Primrose High School. She received her B.S. and Med. from Texas Woman's University in Denton. She was married James Sidney Commander Oct. 14, 1933, in Alto. He died June 26, 1994,

She was an elementary school teacher for the Denton Independent School. She was a member of the Denton First Baptist Church, The Lady Lions Club, First Baptist Church 39'ers, AARP, and the Retired Teachers Association.

Mrs. Commander is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Sylvia and Janny Lyons, of Gainesville, and Delores and Bob Hooper, of Dublin; four grandchildren, Pamela Lyons Hobbs, David Lyons, Robert Hooper and Scott Hooper, and 11 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sisters, Hazel Steed and Olma Holcomb; and her brother, Willis Bland.

WARREN TAYLOR WHITEMAN

Funeral for Warren Taylor Whiteman, 82, of Alto, was at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Alto Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. William Snydo, the Rev. Odis Bryan and the Rev. Charles Williams officiating. Burial was in Alto City Cemetery.

Mr. Whiteman died Friday. He was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Dallas to Augustus and Lucile Bradford Whiteman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a part of the military draft board for 20 years. He was a former member of the Lions Club and worked at the DPS office until going into business with Gus and Weida Whiteman at Whiteman Foods. He was reared by his grandparents, W.T. and Sally Whiteman.

Survivors are his wife, Barbara Whiteman of Alto; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tex Hunter Whiteman of Palestine and Chip and Carroll Boyd of Palestine; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Robin and Kenny Callaway of Alto, Mindy and Oliver McLaughlin of Palestine and Jaina Gayle of Austin; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two expected.

Arrangements were under the direction of O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home.

BERNARD (BERNIE) FERRARA

Funeral mass for Bernard (Bernie) Ferrara, 74, of Jacksonville was at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with Father Mark Kusmirek officiating. Burial was be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Rusk.

Mr. Ferrara died Aug. 23. He was born Dec. 21, 1933, in New York City. Mr. Ferrara had lived in Jacksonville for four years and previously lived at Emerald Bay.

He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Jacksonville. He was a catcher in Cincinnati Reds organization for several years and retired from Roadway Express after many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Walter Ferrara and Mary Gallo Ferrara.

Survivors include wife of 47 years Margaret Ferrara of Jacksonville; a sister Roseanne Ferrara of Bronxville, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

MARGARET SWIFT OWEN
Memorial service for Margaret Swift Owen of Tyler, formerly of Rusk, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Stewart Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Anderson officiating. Burial will be held at East Memorial Gardens in Texarkana, Ark.

Mrs. Owen died Aug. 24. She was born in Sutton, Ark., to the late Alvie Howard and Martha Lambert Erwin. Mrs. Owen was a homemaker, a state employee and a member of Rose Heights Church of God.

Preceding her in death were her husband and the father of her children, Malcolm M. Swift; one brother; two sisters; two grandchildren; and her husband of six years, Arris Owen.

Survivors are two sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Sue Swift of Dialville, and Steve and Judy Swift of Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Phil Hall of Tyler; sister, Rose McDougald of Sutton, Ark.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Duncan, Cameron Hall, Christian Hall, Jessica Rice and Rebekah Sullivant; three great-grandchildren, John Smith, Lydia Rose Rice and Andrew Rice; and several nieces and nephews.

Lois Sparkman was born in Maydelle June 12, 1912, to Bertie Session of Wells and T.J. Sparkman of Mississippi. She died in Eugene, Ore. March 13. Her ashes will be buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30.

In her home she reared Kitty Button Jensen of Nampa, Idaho and an adopted son, Daniel Sparkman of Tokoyo, Japan.

Her career spanned many years, mostly in the teaching field.
