ROBERT R. (BOB) BARR
Memorial service for Robert R. (Bob) Barr, 82, of Rusk, will be at 6 p.m. Monday, July 7, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Caldwell officiating.
He died June 19. He was born Sept. 27, 1925 in Rock Island, Ill. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a jeep driver in Gen. George Patton's Third Army. As a young man he participated in basketball, bowling, golf and horse shoes.
He worked for the John Deere Company in Moline, Ill., and later moved to California. He was employed by the Salinas, Calif. school district, retiring as chief of the computer section.
Following the marriage of their youngest daughter, La Retta, Mr. Barr and his wife, Dottie, moved from California to Pennsylvania, then to Alvin, to Florida, back to Texas, back to Florida and finally to the Piney Woods of East Texas in 2005. Mr. Barr was a member of the Rusk First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Dorothy P. (Dottie) Barr; three children, Linda Flores of Groveland, Calif., Robin Walton of San Jose, Calif., and La Retta Britton, of Rusk; 13 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral for Opal Hendrick, 89, of Rusk was at 10 a.m. Friday in the
Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Don Copeland and Troy
Dagle officiating. Burial was in Russell Cemetery, FM 23.
Mrs. Hendrick died June 24. She was born April 28, 1919 in Rusk to the late Joe Ellie and Minnie Maude Smith Hugghins. Mrs. Hendrick was a life-long Rusk and Bulah community resident. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Rusk Garden Club. She was a homemaker.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Carvel Leland Hendrick on Dec. 4, 1984; a brother, Calvin Hugghins; two sisters, Ruby Burchfield and Lillian Gardiner. Survivors are two daughters and sonsin law, Charlotte and Wayne Burchfield of Alba and Brenda and Jim Netters of Rusk; a brother and sister-in-law, Joe Truman and Trudy Hugghins of Houston; three sisters, Jewel Eberhardt of Pearland, Merle Thornhill of Dallas and Mary Harris of Rusk; a brother in law, Alvin Burchfield of Rusk; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Funeral for Lila Bernice (Granny) Todd, 88, of Jacksonville was at 2
p.m. Sunday at Autry Funeral Home chapel with Davy Carter officiating.
Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Mrs. Todd died June 25. She was born Aug. 9, 1919 in Naborton, La. to the late H. T. and Blanche Hunter and had been a Jacksonville resident for the past 50 years. She retired from the Jacksonville Savings & Loan, now Franklin Bank, where she worked as a keypunch operator.
She was preceded in death by husband, Fred T. Todd; brother, Thurmond Hunter of Houston; and sister, Cleo Hunter of Jacksonville. Survivors are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry Todd of Jacksonville and John and Christine Todd of San Mateo, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Bennie Killion of Tyler; grandchildren, Mike Christopher and wife Cindi of Ponta, Tod Christopher of Ponta, Andy Christopher and wife Karen of Flint, Betsy Bass of Tyler, Leslie, Lauren and Landon Todd of San Mateo, Calif. and Ashleigh Lewis of Jacksonville; seven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and five half-brothers and half-sisters.

Funeral for Cleven (Mike) Leviston, 51, of Houston was at 1 p.m.
Saturday in the Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Mertis M.
Bartley officiating. Burial was in Rusk Memorial Park.
Mr. Leviston died June 20. He was born Dec. 18 1956 in Houston. He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.
He was a body builder trainer of the Bally's Fitness Center in Houston. Among those he trained were Jeff Bagwell and Lou Retton.
Survivors are his wife, Gloria Leviston of Houston; a son, Jerrell Leviston of Houston; two daughters, Lorie Renee Leviston and Ovaniecia Leviston. both of Humble; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jerry and Anne Leviston of Rusk, Jeronnie and Carrie Leviston of New Caney, Gary Leviston of Humble and Danny Leviston of Houston; a sister, Carolyn Harris of Houston; two uncles and an aunt, Joe and Mazelle Hicks of Houston and Alonzo Hicks of Rusk.
Pallbearers were Sam O'Neal, Charles R. Hicks, Tracy Session, Richard Jenkins, Frazier Foreman, Charles Dearman and Wesley Dearman.
Honorary pallbearers were staff of Ballys Fitness Center.

Graveside service for Johnie L. Watkins, 92, of Jacksonville was at 11

Mrs. Watkins died June 30. She was born Sept. 13, 1915 in Jacksonville.
Mrs. Watkins was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Mary Bible Club, and former member of Utile Dulce Wednesday Study Club. She received her Master's Degree in education and was formerly a reading specialist in southern Texas.
Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by her husband, Watty Watkins; and sister, Elizabeth Hillencamp.
Survivors include a brother John Phillip Turner of Austin; and several nieces and nephews including Kim Hillencamp, Jacksonville.
Services were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Funeral for Ed Kiely, 84, of Jacksonville was at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First
United Methodist Church, Jacksonville with the Rev. Dr. Edwin Crank and
the Rev. Dr. Faulk Landrum officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial
Park, Jacksonville.
Mr. Kiely died Monday, June 30. He was born Feb. 26, 1924 in Dallas and had lived in Jacksonville more than 50 years. He was owner of the Kiely Printing Company.
Mr. Kiely was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Jacksonville Rotary Club.
He was president and a member of the East Texas Division of the State Board of Printing Industries Assn. He was a member of the board of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and was always an active sports enthusiast. He served briefly as interim coach for Lon Morris College and worked at the Jacksonville Daily Progress and the Longview News Journal as a sports writer. He continued this interest throughout his life.
His 50 years in the graphic arts industry were recognized in 2001 as Outstanding Business Man by the Chamber of Commerce and in 2003 he was honored by the Lon Morris College as an Alumni Who Makes A Difference.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Douglas and Irby Campbell Kiely.
Mr. Kiely is survived by his wife of more than 49 years, Evelyne Kiely of Jacksonville; a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Harry Campbell and Arlene Kiely of Silver Spring, Md.; nephews, Matthew Kiely and Joel Kiely both of Washington D.C., Aaron Kiely and his wife Melissa and their two sons Kevin and Thomas, all of La Canada Flintridge, Calif. and Adam Kiely, his wife Roxanna and their daughter Christi Anna, all of Gaithersburg, Md.; special friends and sisters in law, Artrell Bunn Sanders of Henderson and Annie Lou Bunn of New Summerfield, both former employees.

Funeral for Saundra Kay Buckelew (Nanny) Pryor, 59, of Maydelle will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, in the Wallace Thompson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Glover officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. Pryor died July 6. She was born March 18, 1949 in Tyler. She was a Maydelle resident for 23 years, formerly of Tyler. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Overton and a U. S. Postal Service worker for 25 years serving in Maydelle, Jacksonville, and Tyler. She was postmaster for 15 years in Maydelle. Mrs. Pryor was editor of NAPUS for one year as well as head of the hospitality committee for NAPUS with her husband. Mrs. Pryor and her husband were frequent travelers and visited Washington D.C. and the Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif. She received her Associates Degree in Computer Science from Tyler Junior College and studied family genealogy and also organized and held the annual Maydelle Community Easter Egg hunt for many years.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Richard and Dorothy Buckelew; and sister, Peggy Jennings. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Earl Pryor of Maydelle; four sons, Anthony Earl Pryor of Wylie, James Eugene Pryor of Keller, Kevin Wayne Sr. and Sandra Pryor of Overton, Tracy Duane Pryor of Texarkana; a sister and brother-in-law, Shera and Ron Duncan of Overton; 11 grandchildren including Heather Watson, Taylor Watson, Preston Pryor, Wesley Pryor, Nicholas Pryor, Tyler Pryor, Kevin Pryor Jr., Sarah Bracewell, Emily Bracewell, Brent Pryor, Chelsey Pryor; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and one uncle.

Memorial service for Roy D. (Teny) Burroughs, 82, of Wells, was held at
11 a.m., Thursday, July 10, at the Falvey Memorial United Methodist
Church in Wells with the Rev. Joe Beran officiating. Private burial was
in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Burroughs was born May 10, 1926, in Forest to the late Cordie Hester and George Prentis Burroughs. He died Sunday, July 6.
He was a retired educator. He began his career as a coach/ teacher with Maydelle ISD, moving to Hudson ISD in 1953. In 1974, he was employed with Murchison ISD, where he retired as the Superintendent. Mr. Burroughs served in the U.S. Army during World War II in England and Germany. He was a member of Falvey Memorial United Methodist Church and had resided in Wells for the past 24 years. He was also a member of Rusk VFW Post #3406, Wells Masonic Lodge #915, AF & AM and the Retired Teachers Association of Cherokee County.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; and two brothers, W.R. Burroughs and M.L. (Red) Burroughs.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Bobbye Burroughs of Wells; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Randy Scott of Kingwood; son, Terry Burroughs of Cleveland; grandchildren and their spouses, Emily and Chris Rickman of Midlothian, Va., Heather and Scott Pulaski of Ypsilanti, Mich., Bradley and Brooke Scott of Kingwood, Andrew Scott of Kingwood, and Kayla Burroughs of Richmond; and a great grandson, Samuel Rickman.

Mrs. McCarroll died July 1. She was born July 27, 1913 in Hillsboro to William Thomas Pyland and Jeanne Moss Pyland. Mrs. McCarroll was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville for more than 50 years and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Jack McCarroll.

Mr. McGuire died Friday in Lufkin. He was born June 19, 1921, in Maydelle to Charlie and Stella Marie Redden Mc- Guire.
He lived in Lufkin for 47 years and was a Baptist. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II and the Korean War as an artillery fire director and received two purple hearts. He was preceded in death by his wife and son, Wilmer Leroy McGuire.
Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, R.L. and Sherry McGuire of Lufkin; a daughter and son-in-law, Stella Ann and Dave Tindell of Wells; five grandsons and three great grandchildren.

She was born Feb. 14, 1940 in Monroe, La. to Clayton Henry and Alice Mae Cook Nelson. She served in the U.S. Air Force and was an employee of Nan Travis for 13 years and 10 years at the Allegiance Company.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Kay Cruse. Survivors include husband Doug Wilhite, Jacksonville; one son and daughter in law, Danny and Dianne Wilhite, Orange; and a brother and sister-in-law, Buzzy and Janet Nelson of Downsville, La.

He lived in Wells most of his life and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He worked as a city sewer plant operator at Lufkin and was a carpenter. He was a member of the Wells Masonic Lodge.
Preceding him in death were his son, Luis Mettlen; a sister; and 11 brothers. Mr. Perry died Saturday. He was born Oct. 17, 1946 in Velasco. He served in the U.S. Air Force, was a member of Reklaw Church of Christ and was formerly a TxDOT employee. He was preceded in death by his parents, W. C. and Winona Perry; sister, Carol Sue Perry; and daughter, Raina Perry. Survivors include his wife, Zina Perry of Rusk; two sons Michael Shae Perry and fiancé Missy Adams and Cody Perry and wife Chanda, all of Rusk; and three grandchildren Macey Perry, Marissa Perry and Morgan Perry, all of Rusk.

July 11. She was born Jan. 20, 1921 in Red River, La.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas O. and Rodie Sarah Baxley Cantrell; her husband, Frank John Youngker; son, Calvin Eugene; and nine brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Youngker was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church of Jacksonville.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Arthur and Marsha Mosley of Concord; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Pam Gentryand Robin and Alfredo Lopez, all of Jacksonville, Sharon and Kenneth McDaniel of Troup and Barbara and Bill Owens of Fort Worth; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral for June Elizabeth Liese Cervenka, 84, of Rusk was at 2 p.m., Friday, at Waco Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Mike Munn officiating. Burial was in Waco Memorial Park Cemetery
Mrs. Cervenka died July 22. She was born Feb. 22, 1924 in Trenton, N.J. to the late Bill and Lillian Fairbanks Lien.
She was a resident of Rusk 30 years and formerly lived in Corpus Christi and Waco. She was a member of Reklaw United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Cervenka was president of the Parents Teachers Association of Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi for several years. She was organizer of many events and honorary Admiral of the Texas Navy. She was employed at Douglas Aircraft and the Red Cross in Washington, D.C. during World War II. She was also in charge of the prisoner of war list during World War II.
Preceding her in death was one son, William Rudolph Cervenka.
Survivors are her husband of 63 years, Rudolph J. (Rudy) Cervenka of Rusk; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Grace Cervenka of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Kimberly and Christopher Cervenka of San Antonio, Kevin, Brent and Whitney Cervenka of Corpus Christi; two brothers-in-law and sisters in-law; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Cameron died July 22. He was born April 26, 1925 in Griffin. He served with the Navy during WW II and was in the Pacific Theater. He was a Baptist and was employed as a carpenter and a home builder.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Cameron and Belle Pool Cameron; four brothers, Alton Cameron, Estell Cameron, Howard Cameron and Esco Cameron; three sisters, Gladys Wesley, Bernice Smith and Mildred Cameron; and one granddaughter, Tiffani Stanley.
Survivors are his twin sister, Maurine Cross; son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Susan Cameron of Garland three daughters and sons-in law, Connie and Paul Aday of The Woodlands, Brenda and Brent Stahelin of Jacksonville and Elise and Rick Self of McKinney; several grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Congregational Methodist Church of Rusk. Burial was in the Cedar Hill
Cemetery. Mr. O'Neal died July 25. He was born May 31, 1958 in Rusk.
Survivors include his son, Trent O'Neal; mother, Lucille O'Neal; two brothers and sisters in-law, Lewis Glenn and Connie O'Neal and Billy Jack and Felice O'Neal; a sister, Cheryl and David Watson; nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Larry Lloyd, David Beard, John Tom Yarbrough, Johnny Miller and John D. Hudnall.

Mr. Griffin died July 26. He was born Dec. 31, 1943, in Alto to Morris and Samantha Brown Griffin. He lived most of his life in Alto and was a member and deacon at Union Hill Baptist Church. He owned and operated Troy's Paint & Body Shop in Alto for 35 years. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and received an associate degree in criminal justice from Trinity Valley Junior College.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Griffin; a son, Shelton Griffin; a daughter, Debbie Griffin; and a brother, Marvin Griffin.
Survivors are two daughters and sons-in-law, Blondria D. Griffin and Felton Mumphrey of Alto and Pamela and Michael Mumphrey of Rusk; a son and daughter-in-law, Kerry W. and Regina Griffin of Nacogdoches; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Edward and Mary Griffin of Fort Worth, Donnie Griffin of Alto and Tommy and Brenda Griffin of Longview; a sister, Maxine Marshall of Shreveport, La.; four grandchildren, Malcolm Mumphrey, Michael Mumphrey Jr., Emmanuel Griffin and Ambriana Griffin; special niece, Sandra Brantley of Whitehouse; and special cousin, Jerry Brown of Las Vegas, Nev.

Mr. McCullough died July 27. He was born Oct. 4, 1929 in Leesville, La.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Goodfellows Sunday school class. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Pasadena and the Scottish Rite.
Mr. McCullough was a retired maintenance supervisor at NASA Space Center and Texas State Railroad. He also worked at Alcoa.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Cordie Lay Mc- Cullough of Jacksonville; three sons and daughters in law, Jerry and Donna McCullough and Royce and Jere McCullough, all of Jacksonville and Brett and J-Ann McCullough of McKinney; grandchildren Jerrod, Tiffany, and James McCullough, John and Amanda Shaw, D'Ann and Gregory McCullough and Sarah and Jewel McCullough; great-grandchildren Taylor Shaw, Hannah Freudenberg, Weston Jakob, Wyatt and Whitney McCullough and Maddison Marshall; brother and sister-in-law Lloyd and Joyce McCullough of Hughes Springs and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jerrod McCullough, AMN Gregory McCullough, James McCullough, Tim McCullough, John Shaw, Stephen Andrew and Pat Nelson.

Private family memorial services for James Perry, 59, of Jacksonville
will be scheduled at a later date.
Mr. Perry died July 27. He was born Nov. 20, 1948 in Cherokee County.
He was employed as a highway surveyor in the construction field.
Preceding him in death were his parents, George Perry and Mary Lee Dickerson Perry; and his son, Jason Perry.
Survivors are his wife Joan Rivera Perry; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and R. L. Butler and Teresa Perry, all of Frankston; three sisters, Hazel Huff of Grand Prairie and Darlene Williams and Kay Underwood, both of Greenville; his special friend, Clifford Moseley; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren.
