JOHN ALBERT HOOTON

Funeral for John Albert Hooton, 51, of Huntington was at 10:30 a.m. May 30 in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home chapel in Huntington with Lamar Denby officiating. Burial was in the Huntington Cemetery.

Mr. Hooton was born Sept. 23, 1956 in Jacksonville, to Truby Sachtleben and Edward Dewey Hooton, and died May 27.

A former Jacksonville resident, he had resided in Huntington since 1976. He was a 1975 Jacksonville High School graduate and a 1977 graduate of Texas State Technical College. Mr. Hooton had worked for Mustang Tractor and was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Dewey Hooton; brother, James Fred Hooton; and nephew, Bernie Hooton.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela English Hooton of Huntington; daughter, Jacqueline Jo Hooton of Huntington; mother, Truby Sachtleben Hooton of Jacksonville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gaylon and Jan Hooton and Kenneth and Alana Hooton, all of Jacksonville; sister, Martha Senesac of Palestine; nieces and nephews, Brenda and Todd Travis, Russell and Ashley Hooton, Amy and Chris Wolf, all of Jacksonville, Leah and Lewis Zeiters of Palestine, Paul Senesac of Grapeland and Kent and Brandi Senesac of Beaver Dam, Wisc.; and five great-nieces and great-nephews.

Pallbearers were Ed Glover, Stacey Vann, Dennie Adams, Mike English, Curtis Shoemaker, Dennis Bell, Scott Storment and Eddie Mathews.

 

JOHN DAVID (SONNY) KESINGER

Graveside service for John David (Sonny) Kesinger was at 1 p.m. Friday at the Douglass Cemetery with Jim Middleton officiating.

Mr. Kesinger died May 23. He was born Oct. 6, 1942, in Nacogdoches County to Johnnie and Hazel Brown Kesinger. He grew up in Alto and later moved to Houston where he lived for 43 years. He worked for many years as a salesman for Airco Welding and was a Baptist. He had attended the Church of Christ for the last few years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and a sister, Juanita (Sister) Burran.

Survivors are two daughters and a son-in-law, Terry and Foreign Broussard and Donna DeSilva, all of Houston; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Henry (Bo) and Karen Kesinger and Robert Kesinger, all of Alto; four grandchildren, Eric Hackney, Rachel Wilson, Sterling Broussard and Heather Broussard.

O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

THOMAS MASON LONG

Funeral for Thomas Mason Long, 77, of Alto, was at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Alto Community Fellowship Church with the Rev. Jim Goforth officiating. Burial was in Arnold Cemetery.

Mr. Long died May 27. He was born June 3, 1930 in Mobile, Ala. to Thomas Jefferson and Johanna Louisa Wasserleben Long. He lived for many years in Waco and for the past 16 years in Alto. He was a Baptist and a member of the Masonic Lodge Terrell No.83. He was a member of the Elk City American Legion Post and a Shriner. He spent summers from 1992- 2005 in Elk City, Idaho in a cabin on the Elk Head ranch where he fished, hunted , hiked, backpacked and served as a guide, cook and packer with a mountain hunting and guiding company. He served as a time keeper for the Elk City Omoksee for several years and worked with riders and their horses. He and his wife, Gayla backpacked into the River of No Return Wilderness in 1993.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John Long.

Survivors are his former wife of 31 years and mother of his six children, Joan Welch Long of Texas City; his wife of 10 years, Gayla Long of Alto; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Thomas and Ruth Long of Waco and Ernest Virgil and Lorie Long of Alto; four daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Belle and Gene Staneck of Shiner, Jo Ann Louise Long and Frank Horelica of Texas City, Tina Davis of Texas City, Betty Olivia Long and (Bama Girl) Debbe Reynolds of Roundrock; a brother and sister-inlaw, Jimmy and Sally Long of Missouri; grandchildren, Billy, Shannon, Sherri, Dwight, Kari, Heather, Misty, Theresa, Mason, Cassie, Jaycie and Breann; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Members of the Masonic Lodge served as pallbearers.

LANITA MCDUFF

Graveside service for Lanita McDuff , 51, of Jacksonville, was at 10 a.m. Friday, May 30 at Still Waters Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jack Thrift officiating.

Mrs. McDuff died May 28. She was born Sept. 7, 1956 in Olney. She was a homemaker and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Jacksonville.

Survivors are her husband, Mike McDuff of Jacksonville; her parents, Boyce and Peggy Martin of New London; a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Rakel McDuff of Jacksonville; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Jonathan Thrift of Jacksonville; a brother and sister in-law, Darrel and Barbara Martin of Whiteface; and four grandchildren, Rebecca, Stacy, Benjamin and Randy. Pallbearers were Barry Hughes, David Stone, Allen Yarbrough, George Wade, Skip Downum and James Lathrop.

SHARLA ANN ADKISON
 

Funeral for Sharla Ann Adkison, 46, of Jacksonville was at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, at Autry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Vernon Lee and the Rev. Philip Warren officiating. Burial was in Old Palestine Cemetery.

Mrs. Adkison died May 28,. She was born Feb. 13, 1962 in Houston to Jerry Eugene Ainsworth and Alice Lorna Miller Ainsworth.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Jacksonville First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Adkison was preceded in death by son, Brett Springer and parents Jerry and Alice Ainsworth.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Wayne and Shelly Springer of Katy; two brothers and sisters in law, Rayford and Monica Ainsworth of Jacksonville and Roger and Traci Ainsworth of Montgomery; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lorna and Richard Wallace of LaPorte, Jerre and John Prewitt of Jacksonville, Marylain Miller of New Caney and Dapholine Swarthout of Humble; two grandchildren, Hailey Dawn Springer and Riddic Michael Springer of Katy.

Pallbearers were Tom Jones, David Pike, Les Johnson, Joe Weaver, Johnny Guinn and Johnathan Lewis.

JO FRANCIS

Graveside service for Jo Francis, 82, of Jacksonville, was at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jarratt Cemetery with the Rev. James Blaylock officiating.

Mrs. Francis died May 29. She was born Sept. 12, 1925 in Jacksonville to Longmire McKnight and Mary Mae Morris McKnight. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and was retired from National Bank of Commerce in Dallas as chief telephone operator. She was formerly employed with Children's Medical Center in Dallas

Mrs. Francis was preceded in death by her husband, Myron B. W. Francis.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bo and Diane Northen of Grapevine; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Northen and Bill Hamrick of Jacksonville; a brother, Grover McKnight of Big Spring; two sisters, Elsie (Pinky) Sadler of Groves and Sue Wright of Jacksonville; and four grandchildren, Kimberly, Bruce (Tiger), Samuel and Lisa.

Pallbearers are Bruce Hammond, Samuel Rushing, Murphy Milligan, Smitty Smith, Casey Davis and Shawn Davis.

Services were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

 

RICHARD GARY BURKE

Funeral for Richard Gary Burke, 78, of Wells, was at 10 a.m. Friday at the Forest Baptist Church. Burial was in Thompson Cemetery.

Mr. Burke died May 28. He was born to Thomas J. Burke and Ethel Griffin Burke Dec. 3,1928 in Jacksonville.

Mr. Burke was a Wells High School and Stephen F. Austin State University graduate. He retired from Abitibi Consolidated. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was member of Forest Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher; a member of the American Legion, and in the past, served as a member of the Wells ISD School Board and Wells City Council. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. and Ethel Burke; and his brother, S.G. Burke. Survivors include his wife, Gwen Burke of Wells; two sons, Ricky Burke of Forest and Joe Burke of Barsola; three grandchildren, Kristyl and Matt Woodward, of Lufkin and Kimberly Pilkington of Forest; two great-grandchildren, Tim Ryan Pilkington of Forest and Lauren Blair Woodward of Lufkin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Milton and Jean Jordan of Houston; nephews and spouses, Charles and Jeanette Jordan, Brent and Patti Jordan, and Steve and Carol Jordan, all of Houston; as well as a number of great- nieces and nephews; and other family members. Pallbearers were Charles Jordan, Brent Jordan, Steve Jordan, Don Byrd, Ronnie Cartwright and James Bates. Honorary pallbearers include men from Calvary Baptist Church and Forest Baptist Church, Billy Ray Allen and Buck Chapmon. Arrangements were under the direction of O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home.

 

ALMA LOU HAVENS

Graveside service for Alma Lou Havens, 70, of Rusk was at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mays Cemetery near New Salem with the Rev. Tommy Mabry officiating.

Mrs. Havens died May 30. She was born Sept. 5, 1937 in New Salem to Leroy and Mabel Beatrice Childress Swink. She was a resident of Rusk for 43 years formerly of Jacksonville. Mrs. Havens was a member of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church and a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She was also a homemaker.

Preceding her in death was a sister, Sarahbeth Swink. Survivors are her husband of 48 years, James R. Havens of Rusk; son, James Lynn Havens of New Salem; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Tim King of Rusk; two grandsons, Justin Pitman of Rusk and J.W. King of Rusk; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lynda and David Attaway of Jacksonville, Judy and Jimmy Cochran of New Salem, Molice Jones of New Salem and Sandra Swink of New Salem; brother, Roy L. Swink of New Salem; aunt, Zelma Swink of New Salem, numerous nieces and nephews.

MIKE HESTERLEY

Gravesidse service for Mike Hesterley, 60, of Jacksonville was at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mr. Hesterley died May 29. He was born Jan. 8, 1948 in Jacksonville to Louie Moses Hesterley and Alice Marie Tidwell Hesterley.

He was formerly employed with the U. S. Postal Service in Tyler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie Moses Hesterley and Alice Marie Tidwell Hesterley.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Amanda Hesterley; daughter and son-in-law, Erica and Ed Thurman; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Kent Hesterley and Steve and Cathy Hesterley, all of Jacksonville; three grandchildren; an uncle, Tracy Tidwell; an aunt, Betty Traylor; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

 

CHARLYNE ALLEN SULLIVAN

Funeral for Charlyne Allen Sullivan, 85, was at 2 p.m. Monday in the Autry Funeral Home. Burial was in Old Jacksonville Cemetery.

Mrs. Sullivan died May 31 in Kerrville. She was born on March 21, 1923 to William and Lois Allen in Jacksonville.

She married Everette Franklin Sullivan in 1947 in Wills Point.

Mrs. Sullivan was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Kerrville for more than 25 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, J. D. and William Allen; three sisters, Doris Allen, Gladys "B." Trice, and Ruth Tarrant; and granddaughter Katie Sullivan.

Survivors are two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Karen Sullivan of Marshall and Terry and Karen Sullivan of Kerrville; one daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Steve Lackey of Kerrville; one sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Ray Mays of Kingwood, Texas; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and best friend, Vivian Brown of Kerrville.

 

FRANCES CAROLYN WOOD PAVLETICH

Funeral for Frances Carolyn Wood Pavletich, 88, of Jacksonville was at 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Faulk Landrum and the Rev. Kevin King officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Park. Mrs. Pavletich died May 30. She was born March 25, 1920 in Kilgore to Samuel Thomas and Johnie Palmer Wood. Her family moved to Jacksonville when she was two years old. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was involved in many activities and organizations throughout her life including Daughters of the American Revolution, Hyperion Club, Alpha Omega Sunday school class and Sewing Club. She attended Joe Wright Elementary School, and graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1937 as valedictorian and graduated from Lon Morris College in 1939. In 1936 she was crowned Tomato Festival Queen.

Survivors are her husband of 68 years, Philip Jack Pavletich Jr.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Frances Dublin and Carolyn Ann and Larry Miller Lesh; four grandchildren Philip Lewis Lesh and his wife Bonnie, Michael Miller Lesh and his wife Kimberly, Lisa Lesh Ahn and her husband Chun, and Holly Dublin Shelton and her husband Travis; seven great grandchildren Brian Lewis Lesh, Jeffrey Philip Lesh, Kathryn Mackenzie Lesh, Collin Michael Lesh, Emilia Grace Ahn, Miller Yemo Ahn and Jillian Malone Shelton.

Preceding her in death were her parents and great-granddaughter Abigail Lee Lesh.

Pallbearers were Robert Frank Brown, Brian Holcomb, Corey S. Pavletich, Andy Phillips, Johnny Shattuck, Max Treadwell, and Kent Westbrook. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville. Autry Funeral Home was in charge.

 

EVA AILEEN JOHNSON EMERSON

Funeral for Eva Aileen Johnson Emerson, 93, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Autry Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Keviin Strempke officiating. Burial will be in Jarratt Cemetery.

Mrs. Emerson died May 31. She was born Feb. 5, 1915 near Carthage to Harvey and Julia Marshall Johnson. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 45 years, Archie Emerson, three brothers, three sisters, and her daughter, Salley Hassell who died Feb. 6.

She lived in the Jacksonville area most of her life, moving to Mesquite in 2003. She was in the Nan Travis Pink Ladies and precinct chairman in Turney. She was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church until she became a member of New Covenant United Methodist Church in 2004.

Survivors are two daughters and three sons-in-law, Judy and John Barton of Sunnyvale and Margaret and Roger Chandler and Kenneth Hassell of Mesquite; six grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa Pinkston and husband Jeff, Angela Fletcher and husband Lee, Andy Barton and wife Carol, Aaron Henderson and wife Kelli, Jennifer King and husband Gary and Amy Parker and husband Ron; two step grandchildren, Rachel Chandler and Chris Chandler; eight great-grandchildren, Colby and Colin Henderson, Gus Fletcher, Cassidy and Makenzie Pinkston, Harlie and Tyler Barton, Landon Henderson and five step great-grandchildren, Cameron, Caleb and Chelsea Parker, Dalton Douglas and Courtney Harper.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

  WILL MARVIN LUSK SR.

Graveside service for Will Marvin Lusk Sr., 82, of Rusk will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4 at the Alto City Cemetery with the Rev. Donald Wayne Moore officiating.

Mr. Lusk died June 1. He was born April 19, 1926 in Conroe, to the late Henry E. and Hazel Spurgers Lusk. He lived most of his life in Alto and was a member of First Baptist Church in Bullard. Mr. Lusk was a self employed auto and diesel mechanic and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Rita Lusk; two sons, Ray Lusk and Tommy Lusk; brother, Hugh Lusk; sister, Betty Lusk Denman; and stepmother, Mary Bonnie Lusk.

Survivors are two sons and daughter-in-law, Will Marvin Lusk Jr. of Nacogdoches and Bruce and Teresa Lusk of Central Heights; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Doris Marie and Leslie Parker of Rusk, Janette Moore of Troup and Ginger and Eddy Shorter of Laneville; brother and sisterin law, Doyle and Wanda Lusk of Mineral Wells; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home was in charge.

DALE ERNEST SCOTT GRAHAM

Memorial service for Dale Ernest Scott Graham, 66, of Tyler, formerly of Jacksonville, was at 4 p.m. June 8 at the Tyler Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Raul Benitez officiating.

Mr. Graham died June 2. He was born in Toledo, Ore. Nov, 25, 1941 to Evan A. Scott and Minna Almeda Murray. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the early days of Vietnam. After leaving the military, he was a crash rescue fireman in the civil service in Washington, D.C. From there, he moved to Omaha, Neb. and became a meat cutter and worked in area markets, grocery stores and packing houses. In the early 1970s, he moved to Texas. He worked for Safeway, Piggly Wiggly, and various other markets in East Texas.

He joined the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in 1996 and was active in the Rusk church He was voted Layman of the Year in 2000 for the North American Division of Seventh- Day Adventists for his work as personal ministries director distributing Bible studies and Christian literature to thousands of people. From 2002-05, he was the volunteer director of the SEJAM after-school program in Jacksonville where he helped many children have a safe place to go after school

Survivors are his wife, Vickey; five sons, Michael Scott, Timothy Scott, and Brian Scott of Omaha, Neb.; Dale Graham Jr. of Bridgeport and Raymond Graham of Bullard; two daughters, Christine Goodburn of Omaha, Neb. and Toni Teyib of Bullard; three brothers, Darrell Graham of Tyler; Raymond Graham of Mt. Vernon, Wash. and Evan Scott of San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters, Dawn Scott of Anchorage, Alaska; and Darlene Sanders of Madras, Ore.; 14 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends.

Donations may be made to a favorite charity.

 

GREG (GREASY) WEAVER

Funeral for Greg (Greasy) Weaver, 53, of Jacksonville was at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Still Waters Memorial Garden.

Mr. Weaver died June 2. He was born Dec. 23, 1954 in Memphis, Tenn. to Gaylen Weaver and Margaret Irene Hathcock Weaver. Mr. Weaver was a Baptist, self employed auto mechanic and member of Steel Riders Motorcycle Club.

Survivors include wife, Ann Weaver of Jacksonville; his father, Gaylen Weaver of Jacksonville; mother, Margaret Weaver of Memphis; son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Kiko Weaver of Olive Branch, Miss.; half sister Sandra of California; his mother-in-law, Elise Mire of Houston; two grandchildren, Neo Weaver and Raio Weaver; a brother in law and his wife, Steve and Linda Mire of Houston; godchild, Carolyn Alvarado of Texas City; aunt, Maxine Cox, Waverly, Tenn.; and one niece and one nephew.

 

TIFFANY FORT

Funeral for Tiffany Fort, 26, of New London, formerly of Jacksonville and Mixon was at 10 a.m. June 6 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joe Ballard and Pastor Rick Miller officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Ms. Fort died June 1. She was born Aug. 20, 1981 in Jacksonville to Ronny and Teresa Herr Fort and was reared in Mixon. She was a 1999 graduate of Troup High School and a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church. She was an office clerk for Grace Visiting Nurses.

Survivors are her father and step-mother, Ron and Michelle Fort of Liberty; her mother and step-father, Terri and Forrest Moore of Jacksonville; son Josh Fort of Jacksonville; daughter Bethany Fort of Jacksonville; brothers and a sister-in-law, Kendall and Nikki Sides of Troup, Jeremy Sides of Jacksonville and Ronnie Fort and Dustin Fort, both of Liberty; sister Cassie Salazar of Jacksonville; grandparents Larry and Carolyn Herr of Jacksonville, Gwen and Jim Deese of Lake Striker; John Moore of Bullard, and Ed and Shirley Cox of Red Springs; great-grandmother Evelyn Leach of Overton; her fiancée, James Jones of Overton; and best friends, Tawnie and Michael Johnson and Brooke and Joe Humphries and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Pallbearers were Jeremy Smith, Michael Johnson, B. J. Pitts, Stephen Forson, Donald Smith and Frankie Guyton.

MELVIN E. BLOW

Graveside service for Melvin E. Blow, 80, of Flint, formerly of Bullard and Mt. Selman, was at 10 a.m. Friday at Larissa Cemetery with the Rev. Roy Thoene officiating.

Mr. Blow died June 3. He was born Dec. 13, 1927 in Bullard to Marcus Hodges Blow and Ethel Orie Casey Blow.

He served in the U. S. Army and was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Blow was a member of Gresham Baptist Church, was formerly a farmer and was retired from Smith County Road and Bridge Dept. as a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Helen Louise Nance.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Spivey Blow of Flint; sister and brother-in-law, Marvis and Jack Stripling of Bullard, and several nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers were Bill Willis, Neil Nance, Bruce Stripling, Terry Hughes, Steve Hatten and Charles Ray.

Arrangements were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

 

SHIRLEY MARION SIRRATT

Graveside service for Shirley Marion Sirratt, 80, of Rusk, was at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Weeks officiating.

Mrs. Sirratt died June 4. She was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Goose Creek. She had resided in Rusk for the past 10 years. She was a Presbyterian and a retired medical transcriptionist. Preceding her in death were her husband, LeRoy Sirratt; and parents, Emmett Sr. and Grace Waugh.

Survivors are a son, Gordon Lee Robinson Jr. of Gallatin, Tenn.; a daughter and son-inl aw, Sheryl and Dennis (Bud) Grenier of Rusk; a brother and sister-in-law, Emmett Jr. and Carolyn Waugh of Baytown; a sister-in-law and her husband, Shirley Ann and Marvin Weeks of Rusk; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

  MARTHA JEAN PARKS GOODMAN

Funeral for Martha Jean Parks Goodman, 74, of Rusk was at 2 p.m., Saturday in Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Rob Godwin officiating.

Burial will be at later date in the Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Goodman died June 4. She was born July 9, 1933 in Houston to the late Sol and Helen Altman Parks.

She was a resident of Rusk for 11 years and formerly resided in Texarkana, Tex. and Galveston.

Mrs. Goodman was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Galveston. She received a B.A. degree in Home Economics from the University of Texas and was personnel director for many years at Jack Tar Hotels in Galveston.

She taught home economics at Ball High School in Galveston for three years and taught at Galveston College under the Hilton Hotel Restaurant Management Program. Mrs. Goodman was a volunteer for Galveston Historical Foundation and Singletary Memorial Library in Rusk.

Mr. Warren died Friday. He was born June 25, 1983 in Jacksonville. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rusk.

Survivors include his father, Jerry Warren of Rusk; his mother and step-father, Mary Lou and Thomas Wood of Rusk; a sister, Kendy Cabrera of Rusk; a brother, Justin Warren of Rusk; grandparents, Marie Fales of Rusk, John and Diane Yarborough of Liberty Hill and Billie Warren of Jacksonville; and a nephew, A. ROBERT EARL (PIPPY) PERRY

Funeral for Robert Earl (Pippy) Perry, 57, of Jacksonville was at 3 p.m. at the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Jacksonville with Willie Nelson and Don Madison officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery. Mr. Perry died Saturday.

He was born April 2, 1951, in Jacksonville. He attended Fred Douglas High School and was a member of the Jehovah's Witness kingdom Hall. He was a retired truck driver.

Survivors are two sons, Robert E. Perry and Sean T. Perry, both of Douglasville, Ga.; a daughter, Robin Perry of Dallas; and three grandchildren.

MARVA RUTH KEMP MARSHALL

Funeral for Marva Ruth Kemp Marshall, 52, of Jacksonville was at 11 a.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Home chapel with Stephen Allman officiating.

Mrs. Marshall died June 6. She was born April 10, 1956, in Bullard. She attended Stanton High School at Bullard. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall and a housewife. Survivors are her husband, Leonard Marshall of Jacksonville; two sons, Fredrick Kemp of Tyler and Leonard R. Marshall of Dogwood City; a sister, Barbara Kemp Clater of Jacksonville and several grandchildren.

 

DAVID FINCH
 

Graveside services for David Finch, 75, of Jacksonville was at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at Finch Farm Cemetery in Frankston with the Rev. Elwin Campbell officiating.

Mr. Finch died June 11. He was born Sept. 15, 1932 in Como to David Herman Finch and Linda Ann Kerns Finch. Mr. Finch served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force and was a former peace officer for Harris County. Mr. Finch was a member of Central Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Woodmen of the World Society and was a retired carpenter. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughters, Glenda Irene Finch, Mary Frances Finch and Barbara Jean Finch.

Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law Carl David Finch of Frankston, Troy James and Christi Finch of Lufkin, and David Finch, Jr. of Oklahoma; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Jo and Bobby Goff of Rusk and Vicki Joan and Anthony Sizemore of Wills Point; two brothers Travis Wayne Finch of Cash and Harold Hampton Finch of Winnsboro; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

MARY ELLA BOLTON

Graveside service for Mary Ella Bolton, 94, of Rusk was at 10 a.m., Monday at Moseley Cemetery with the Rev. Gloria Guinn Jennings and Forrest Phifer officiating.

Mrs. Bolton died June 11 at her residence. She was born Sept. 28, 1913 in Rusk to the late Albert Sidney and Ella Catherine Jones Meredith. She was a lifelong resident of Rusk and worked in sales in Rusk and Corpus Christi as a dress shop sales lady. Mrs. Bolton was a member of the Rusk First United Methodist Church and the Earnest Workers Sunday school class. She was a charter member of Daughters of Republic of Texas for 25 years. She was also a member of Daughters of American Revolution for 25 years.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Edward Marion Bolton of Aug. 31, 2006; a son, William (Bill) Albert Bolton in 1970; three sisters and three brothers; and a sister-in-law, Marie Gowin in 1999.

She is survived by a granddaughter and her husband, Barbara E. and Ricky L. Morgan of Henderson; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Alex Morgan of Henderson; a sister-in-law, Roselyn Bolton Scott of Rusk; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers were Billy Lankford Jr., Jimmy Perkins, Earl Finley, Joe Brooks, Robert Jones and Anthony Holcomb. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Lankford Sr. and Joe Wade Vining.

  BIRDIE JONES MCGILL

Funeral for Birdie Jones McGill of Rusk was at 3 p.m. Monday at Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Don Copeland and James I. Perkins officiating. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. McGill died June 12. She was born April 22, 1910 in Laurel, Miss. to the late Adam and Katie Hare Waldrup and had lived in Rusk for 60 years. Mrs. McGill was a Rusk businesswoman who owned and operated the Jones Dress Shop for 40 years.

She served on the board of directors of Citizens 1st Bank from 1979-93 and upon her business retirement she became an assistant vice-president for Citizens 1st Bank for six years. She received the American Bankers Association's Presidential Citation for Women in Banking in 1986 and a Rusk High School Tyler Junior College scholarship was named in her honor.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne McGill of Rusk; sister and brother-inlaw, Katherine and Woodrow Powell; nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death in 1994 by her first husband, Forrest M. Jones.

  SHELBY JEAN STARKEY

Funeral for Shelby Jean Starkey, 73, of Corpus Christi will be conducted on Saturday, June 14 at 2 p.m. at Calallen Baptist Church in Corpus Christi with the Rev. Jack Willoughby officiating. Chapel service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Autry Funeral Home with the Rev. Robin Parsons officiating. Burial was in Henry Cemetery at Gallatin.

Mrs. Starkey was born on Jan. 14, 1935 on a farm in Cherokee County to the late Frazier O. (Boss) and Edrie Marie Hill George. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dawain and Arlin George; and in-laws, Sam and Opal Hicks.

She graduated from Gallatin High School in 1953 and later married her high school sweetheart, Howard Wayne Starkey, on June 19, 1953. She was a housewife.

Survivors are her husband of 55 years, Howard Wayne Starkey of Corpus Christi; two daughters and a son-in-law Laquita and Lewie Goodson of Jacksonville and MiLisa Schilhab of Athens; son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Cindy Starkey of Gallatin; a sister and brother-in-law Patsy and James Pollard of Hallsville; twin brothers and sister-in-law, Duke and Donna George of Bay City and Gary (Dak) George of Alvin; and her friends, Betty Logan of Corpus Christi and Delores Jones of Robstown; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Tramel died June 12. He was born Oct. 18, 1941 in Dry Creek, La. to Guy Tramel and Irma Dougharty Tramel.

Mr. Tramel was a Presbyterian and owner/operator of a retail business. Survivors are his mother, Irma Dunn of Jacksonville; two sons, James E. Tramel II and Paul Allen Tramel, both of Jacksonville; a step-brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur Jr. and Edith Dunn of San Antonio.

 

FELDON WOODROW DOVER
 

Funeral for Feldon Woodrow Dover, 89, of Alto was at 10 a.m. Monday at O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Williams officiating. Burial was in Selman-Roark Cemetery. Mr. Dover died Friday. He was born Nov. 13, 1918, in Leoma, Tenn. to Joiner Augustus and Bessie Love Land Dover. He lived in Alto for five years and previously lived in Huntsville for 35 years.

He was a Methodist and worked at TDCJ for 26 years as a warehouse supervisor. He retired from the U.S. Army where he served as a master sergeant during World War II and the Korean War. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leldon Dover and sisters, Odell Hester, Nadine Partlow and Fay Few.

Survivors are his wife, Merle Adeline Dover of Alto; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Anthony and Aleta Dover of Plano; four daughters, Dorothy Spurgers of Austin, Rena Joy Hale of Bonham, Donna Martinez of Port LaVaca and Marilyn Kay Covington of Alto; three brothers and sisters-in law, A.C. and Dorothy Dover, J.C. and Nellie Dover and Larry and Mary Dover all of Alto; a sister, Dovie Whitaker of Lilbert; special friend and cousin, Clifton and Natalie Dover of Alto; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

ELOISE TEAGUE

Funeral for Eloise Teague, 84, of Jacksonville will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Autry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Faulk Landrum and the Rev. Kevin King officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mrs. Teague died June 15. She was born March 23, 1924 in Houston and had lived in Jacksonville more than 50 years. She was a member of Jacksonville Business & Professional Women's Club, charter member and Woman of the Year of Career Women's Civic Club, past director of Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, and was named Outstanding Business Woman and Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce.

She was a director of Jacksonville Rodeo Association, where she served as co-chair for the Rodeo Queen's Contest several years. She was a director and life member of Jacksonville Riders Club. She and her late husband, Raymond, had founded and chaired the riders club scholarship committee since 1985. For several years Mrs. Teague chaired the Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the riders club, as well as arranging for providing fruit to all nursing home patients during the holiday season, by the riders group.

She was a longtime director, supporter and benefactor of HOPE (Helping Others Pursue Enrichment). It was through the efforts and support of Mr. and Mrs. Teague that the Raymond & Eloise Teague Center for Hope was made possible, and it is named in their honor.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, and was affectionately known as "the lady wearing the head scarf."

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, and a daughter, Marie Snow Colston. Survivors are two daughters Bobbie Moore and her children and grandchildren of Houston and Linda Rousseau of Jacksonville and her children, Joe, Shelly and David; grandsons Ronny John Snow, his wife Angela and three children and Conan Colston and family; her sister and her husband, Dr. Mary and Dr. Charles Vaughan and family of San Antonio; niece Yolanda and Al Arronte and family of Lake Kiowa; the Lone Star Builders Supply Co. family; and special friends Rachel and Bill Isaacks and Betty Ewalt.

Pallbearers will be Ray Prince, Sean Dickey, Randy Berry, Donald Sipes, Blake Baldridge and Ricky Moore.

LINDA JO GROGAN

Funeral for Linda Jo Grogan, 71. of Nacogdoches, was at 2 p.m. June 12 at Laird Funeral Home chapel in Nacogdoches with the Rev. Dr. Johnny Dammon officiating.

Mrs. Grogan died June 10. She was born Nov. 15, 1936 in Grapeland to the late Charles Fred and Neva L. Haltom Jones.

She was reared in Grapeland, where she played basketball and was active in all school activities. She graduated as valedictorian of her class of 1955.

She attended Stephen F. Austin State University, was a member of the honor society, earned a bachelors degree in home economics and later a masters degree in elementary education.

She married Robert V. Grogan in 1957 and they owned and operated Nacogdoches Floral Co. for more than 29 years. She was a member and past president of the Altrusa Club.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sondra and Kenny Martin and Tonya and Dan Singletary; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Pat Grogan, all of Nacogdoches; five grandchildren, Scott Diggs, Charles Grogan, Stephen Martin, Amy Martin and Joseph Singletary; one great grandchild, Addison Diggs; and one sister and brother in law, Frieda and Joe Holt of Harlingen.

Pallbearers were Tommy Kig, Wayne Willis Raymond Dolezel, Cecil Sparks, Ray Spivey, Roy Hardman, Matt Mercer and James Ballow.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Nacogdoches Antique Car Club.

 

DESSIE IRENE SCOGGINS BOLTON

Funeral for Dessie Irene Scoggins Bolton, 102, of Jacksonville will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Autry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Patrick Papp and the Rev. Enid Shepard officiating. Burial will be in Old City Cemetery. Mrs. Bolton died June 15. She was born on Aug. 16, 1905 in San Angelo, Tom Green County to the late Raben Jefferson Scoggins and Dora Lee Stevens Scoggins. She was a homemaker for most of her life and later worked as a cashier for several stores in Jacksonville. She was a member of St. John's Methodist Church and the ETMC Pink Ladies Auxiliary.

Preceding her in death were her parents; five brothers; one sister; husband, Lige Bolton; sons and daughter-in-law, Hubert Bolton and Jack and Jessie Bolton; sons-in-law, John Carnes, Carl Loftin and Lewis Grigory.

Survivors are six daughters and three sons-in-law, Louise Carnes of Irving, Fairy Grigory, Betty Loftin, Agnes and Roger Reagan, Helen and Jim Cromwell and Linda and Don Gregg, all of Jacksonville; two sons and three daughters-in law, Larry and Sandra Bolton and Tony and Nancy Bolton of Tyler and Ernestine Bolton of Jacksonville; 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law Nellie Bolton and Geraldine Westbrook of Jacksonville.

Mrs. Amos died Sunday. She was born July 15, 1953 in Jacksonville to Ralph and Helen Crouch.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church, Jacksonville and the Texas Bar Association.

Mrs. Amos was a prosecutor in San Antonio, Waco and Henderson for many years.

Funeral for Letha Jo Monroe Parsons, 67, of Rusk was at 10 am. Thursday at the Rusk First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Welch and the Rev. Don Copeland officiating. Burial was in Lowes Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Parsons died June 16 in New Braunfels. She was born Feb. 13, 1941 in Rusk. She was a lifelong resident of Rusk and a member of First Baptist Church and church choir. She was previous owner of the George Monroe Flower Shop in Rusk.

Preceding her in death were her parents, George and Morgree Monroe; a brother, George Elbert Monroe; and grandchildren, Caleb and Kara Parsons.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Thomas Lee Parsons of Rusk; four sons and two daughters-in-law, David Parsons of Rusk, Marty Parsons of San Marcos, Andrew and Brenda Parsons of Jacksonville and Robin and Beverly Parsons of Gallatin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and David Jacobs of Rusk and Deborah and Cliff Cary of New Braunfels; a sister, Frances Murdoch of Huntsville, Ark.; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Betty Monroe of Carthage; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a nephew and his wife, John and Betsy Murdoch of Fayetteville, Ark.; and a niece, Mary Turney of Rusk.

  ROY TURNER WALKER, JR.

Funeral for Roy Turner Walke, 84, of Mixon was at 2 p.m. Sunday in Autry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. James Duncan and the Rev. Jason Dreskell officiating. Burial was in Earle's Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Walker died June 19. He was born in Houston April 21, 1924. Mr. Walker was a member of the Mixon Missionary Baptist Church and served as the Assistant treasurer. He was an employee of the Goodyear Tire Company.

He served in the Navy, on the USS Navajo during World War II as a 2nd class petty officer. His ship was torpedoed and sunk in 1943, Mr. Walker was rescued seven days later and was subsequently in a Naval Hospital for nine months

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Cecelia Walker; wife Louise Walker; brother, Carl Walker; and sister, Dorothy Cromwell.

Survivors are his wife Anne Slider-Walker of Mixon; four sons and daughters-in-law, Eual and Linda Walker, of Asworth, Ga., Jerry and Dee- Ann Walker of Canton and Stephen and Carla Slider and Kenneth and R.J. Slider, all of Mixon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharrai and Harold Brooks, Freeport and Kathy and Charles Fason of Tyler; and a sister-in-law Edna Walker, Mineola; grandchildren; Chad Walker, T.R. Mrs. Goodman died June 4 at her home. She was born July 9, 1933, in Houston. She was a Rusk resident for 11 years, formerly of Texarkana and Galveston.

ADRIAN STARNES ALBRIGHT

Funeral for Adrian Starnes Albright, 83, of Jacksonville was at 2 p.m. Friday at Autry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Joe Ballard and the Rev. Jerry Hawbaker officiating. Burial was in Mixon Cemetery. Mr. Albright died June 17. He was born on Aug. 17, 1924 in Jacksonville to the late Frank Albright and Sarah Bell Albright.

He was Baptist, a retired mechanic and served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank and Sarah Albright; brother Joseph Hugo Albright and sister Louise Holleman.

Survivors are his wife of 49 years, Mabel Buchanan Albright of Jacksonville; two daughters, Betty Ann Byrd of Brazoria and Ruby Pauline Nelson of Jacksonville; son, Melvin Ray Hill of Buffalo; brother, John Graves Albright of Jacksonville; several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Luther Moore, Drew Nelson, Chris Halbert, Jade Halbert, John Berryhill, Joe Massey and Dale Halbert.

 

RICHARD GLENN WILCOX

Funeral for Richard Glenn Wilcox, 53, of Athens, was at 2 p.m. Thursday at Athens First Baptist Church with Terry Thomison officiating. Burial was in Malakoff City Cemetery. Mr. Wilcox drown June 15 in the Neches River near Weches in Houston County.

He was born Aug. 24, 1954 in Athens to Ovie Presley and Dorothy Robertson Wilcox. He graduated from Athens High School in 1972 and was a lifelong resident. He was owner/operator of the City Market and had owned Fast Oil and Lube and One Stop Tire. He served as president of Athens Country Club 1988-2002 and served on the Airport Advisory Board.

Survivors include his wife, Amy Stout Wilcox of LaRue; a son, Terry Glenn Wilcox of Athens; two daughters, Kimberly Kay Haning of Malakoff and Monica Mischa Wilcox of Tulsa, Okla.; a stepdaughter, Susie Stout of LaRue; stepson, Cameron Meador of LaRue; his mother, Dorothy Wilcox of Athens; sister, Lynn (Sissy) Rogers of Mesquite; five grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; and other relatives.

Arrangements were under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Athens.

 

SYBLE BEARDEN

Funeral for Syble Bearden, 90, of Jacksonville was at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Autry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Phillip Warren officiating. Burial was in Corine Cemetery.

Mrs. Bearden died Saturday. She was born March 18, 1918, in Dialville to Horace S. Mc- Callum and Lena L. Stephens McCallum. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and formerly worked at Marja Brassiere Co.

Preceding her in death were two sisters Faye Chitwood and Frances Chancellor and two brothers Pete McCallum and Carl McCallum.

Survivors are her husband Elvis Bearden of Jacksonville; a daughter Jennifer Bearden, of Trinity; special friend Dennis Johnson of Trinity; grandchildren Amanda Reid of Rusk and Michael Bivens of Trinity; several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Johnny Chitwood, Tony Chancellor, Butch Orme, Randy Orme, Michael Bivens and Junior Loya

 

PAULINE MILDRED DELATTE

Pauline Mildred Delatte, 81, a retired waitress, died Tuesday, June 17, in Bridgeport. No service is scheduled.

Pauline was born Oct. 18, 1926 to John and Pearlie Choate in Alto. She married Harold J. Delatte.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents, son, Alan Lambert,; three brothers, Curtis, Bill and Frank Choate; and one sister, Juanita Lawrence.

Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Vicki Gordon of Chico; her daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Mike Gainer of Victoria; her sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Bill Dove; her brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Bitzy Choate; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of friends.

Hawkins Funeral Home of Bridgeport was in charge of arrangements.

 

CHRISTINE NEELEY NEWBURN

Funeral for Christine Newburn, 95, of Bullard was at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Gresham with Roy Thoene and Tom Pesnell officiating.

Burial was in Bullard Cemetery.

Mrs. Newburn died June 19. She was born July 21, 1912. Mrs. Newburn was a homemaker, a member of County Line Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Bullard.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Will and Ester Neeley; husband, Jack Newburn; son, Archie Newburn; grandson, Ed Newburn; brothers, Eugene Neeley, William Neeley and Kenneth Neeley; and two sisters, Lola Metcalf and Mary Caldwell.

Survivors are a brother, Woodrow Neeley of Flint; two sisters, Bea Cooper of Gresham and Lucille Harris of Bullard; a special nephew, George Cooper of Bullard; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces.

Pallbearers were C.J. Gullett, Andy Ford, Matt Ford, Zac Ford, Jonathan Harraid and Gina Busyman. Memorials may be made to the Gresham First Baptist Church.

Autry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

A. J. KENNEDY

Funeral for A. J. Kennedy, 83, of Jacksonville was at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Autry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ken McEachern officiating. Burial was in Jarratt Cemetery.

Mr. Kennedy died June 20. He was born June 7, 1925, in Pittsburg to Arthur Washington Kennedy and Willie Vannie Moffett Kennedy.

Mr. Kennedy served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, was a retired electrician and also formerly worked at Nichols-Kusan, Inc. in Jacksonville.

He was a member of Beall Chapel Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer, Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy's wedding was the first wedding held at Beall Chapel Baptist Church on June 14, 1958. He was a member of TRTA.

 

MILDRED LYNDA CHAPMAN

Funeral for Mildred Lynda Chapman, 85, of Rusk will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Chapman died June 20. She was born in Eustace July 3, 1922, to the late Owen Webster and Ethel Wilbanks Holland. She grew up in Mabank and and graduated from Mabank High School in 1940.

Mrs. Chapman graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in1944 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and became a registered dietitian in 1945. She was a member of the American Dietetics Association. She was employed by the University of Texas at Austin from June 1944 to July 1946.

She married Irvin Stanley Chapman on Aug. 24, 1946. From 1947-50 she managed Scarborough's Tea Room in Austin. She lived in Rusk from June 1951 until her death.

Mrs. Chapman was a charter member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Rusk, the William Roark chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the Pink Ladies at the former Rusk Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Volunteer Council at Rusk State Hoapital, the Rusk Garden Club, Eastern Star, Magna Carta Dames, the Thalian Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

When her children were growing up she was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and active in the PTA. She served as a homeroom parent for 12 years in addition to many other volunteer activities. As a member of the First United Methodist Church, she served on the administrative board, worked many years as a vol- unteer during vacation Bible school, and was the chairman of the bereavement committee for five years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Irvin Stanley Chapman; and her sister, Janice Cole.

Survivors are a brother, Owen W. Holland Jr. of San Antonio and Jacksonville; four daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Joe and Eileen Knipper of Waco, Dr. Frank and Melody Petrick of Missouri City, David and Deborah Charlton and Diane Meyers, all of Austin; four grandchildren, Scott and Brent Petrick, Katy Meyers and Madison Charlton; and her faithful friend, Opal Fitts of Rusk. Mrs. Chapman asked for donations to be given to thc Foundation Fighting Blindness, P.O. Box 17279, Baltimore, Md. 21297- 0495. in memory of her late husband, Stanley Chapman, who suffered macular degeneration and in honor of her grandson Brent Petrick, who has a degenerative retinal disease.

Pallbearers will be Forrest Phifer, Lester Hughes, Frank Petrick, Neill Holcomb, Scott Petrick and Monte Ethington.

 

DONAL H. MCALLISTER

Funeral with full military honors for retired 1st Sgt. Donal H. McAllister, 69, of Rusk will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Autry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Don Copeland officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Mr. McAllister died Monday. He was born Dec. 3, 1938 in Rusk to Garnie Houston McAllister and Juanita Mae Johnson McAllister. He was a retired U.S. Postal Service employee as well as retired 1st Sgt. who served three tours with the Army, during the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Theresa Ann McAllister and his parents. Survivors include his wife, Betty McAllister of Rusk; two sons, Kenneth McAllister of Roundrock and Gary McAllister of Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Raymond Smith of Houston and Rhonda Lee and Calvin Forman of Oakland.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons and the employees of the U.S. Postal Service in Rusk. The family will receive friends from 6 -8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

ERVIN MCCAA

Funeral for Ervin McCaa, 85, of Lufkin, was held Monday at Gipson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Horace Fletcher and the Rev. Grant Hanes officiating.

He was born Oct. 17, 1922, in Alto to the late Lucile Bryant and Issac Newton McCaa. He died June 20.

Mr. McCaa was a member of the Denman Avenue Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and taught Sunday school. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, from 1944-46 in the Philippines.

He was a retired carpenter, and had worked for Temple Associates in Diboll for 30 years as a construction superintendent. Mr. McCaa was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Monk McCaa; and brother, Earl McCaa.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Bob Patterson Hardy of Bullard and Patricia June and Jack Vaughn of Huxley; son and daughter-in-law, James Ervin and Ruth McCaa of Wells; grandchildren, Bob Patterson Hardy Jr., Richard Anthony Hardy, Phillip Scott McCaa, James Darren McCaa, Stephen Paul McCaa, Amy Michelle Vaughn Oswalt and Joel Austin Vaughn; 15 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; brothers, Aaron McCaa of Clinton, La. and Edmund McCaa of Tyler.

Pallbearers were Amy Oswalt, Keith Oswalt, Joel Vaughn, Tony Hardy, Phillip McCaa and Darren McCaa.

Honorary pallbearers were Bob Hardy, Jr. and Stephen McCaa.
