The Blacklock Families of Coryell Co. TX.
Clark Wilson Blacklock and Amanda Louvenia Edwards Blacklock
and their children came to Coryell County Tx between 1902 and 1905.
Bringing their family of four boys, Tom, Bunt, Sam & Virge and
daughter Bessie. They were farmers and settled near Purmela. Where
little brothers, Pat and Bill joined the family. Wilson and Lou
(as they were called) had remained with her parents Robert A. 'Gus'
and Margaret F. 'Maggie' Ward Edwards, and had lived, after their
marriage, in Callahan County, where most of the kids were born, and
had rejoined them in Coryell Co. Life pretty much went on as normal,
farming, until about July 1920, when Wilson stepped on a rusty nail
and developed lockjaw, which he died of on July 15, 1920. Clark
Wilson Blacklock and Robert A. Edwards are buried in Smith Cemetery,
Coryell Co. TX. Lou died in 1943 in Bangs, Brown Co. Tx, where she
is buried.
Wilson was the youngest son of Richard Tyrus Blacklock and Agnes
Porter Blacklock, being born April 4, 1866, in Milam Co. Tx. Lou was
the oldest child in her family and was born Dec 31, 1872 in Washington
Co. TX. They were married about 1892 (reportedly Washington Co. Tx,
but no record has been found). This photo was taken about 1903 before
the last two boys Pat and Bill were born. This photo l>r is Sam,
Wilson, Tom, Bunt, Virge in the center, Lou and Bessie.
The youngest two sons, Pat and Bill taken about 1912 in Coryell co.
Their children were:
1) Thomas Jefferson 'Tom' born April 21, 1893, in Callahan Co. TX.
He married Fannie M. Miller, Sept 10, 19121 in Levita, TX. Tom and
Fannie raised a family of two boys and three girls in Garza County, Tx.
Both are buried in the Terrace Cemetery, Post, Garza Co. TX. This
photo back l>r is Pauline, Claudine, Roy and Ruby Nell on Tom and
Fannie's 50th wedding anniversary. Durwood was killed in a car crash
in 1961 in Kern Co. CA.
2) Bernard Marvin 'Bunt' born Nov 9, 1896 in Callahan Co, Tx. He
married Gladys Geneva Oney, Sept 25, 1916 in Coryell Co. TX. Bunt and
Gladys had six boys and one girl. One son Hulon died in March, 1936
and is buried in Smith Cemetery, Coryell Co. Tx beside his grandfather
and great grandfather. The remaining children were raised after 1936
in Garza Co. where Bunt moved to join his brothers, Pat, Virge and
Tom. This photo is of his family, I think when he died. In the back

3) Samuel Dewey 'Sam' was born May 8, 1898 and married Velma Whitt
before 1920 possibly in Hill Co. Tx. Sam and Velma had two sons, Sam
Jr. and Edwin. Sam died Aug 2, 1933 and is buried in Hill Co. TX. NO
PHOTO AVAILABLE
4) Bessie Lillian was born Feb 14, 1900 in Round Rock, Williamson
Co. Tx. She married John William Franks May 4, 1919 in Pearl, Coryell
Co. TX. He too, was a Coryell Co. native, the son of Dr. Franklin
Franks and Nannie Wright Franks. Bessie and JW lived their lives in
Stephenville, Tx and had four daughters. Bessie and JW are buried in
West End Cemetery, Stephenville, TX. Bessie died in 1981, JW in 1970.
5) Virgil Richard 'Virge' was born Feb 14, 1902 in Callahan Co.
TX. He married twice. Opal Robertson was his first wife, having Glen '
Bill' Blacklock in 1921 in Coryell Co. They divorced and Virge married
Lorene Wallace. They had one son, Kenneth who died in 1933 in Hill Co.
TX. and four daughters, who were raised in Garza Co. TX. Both Virge
and Lorene are deceased and rest in Terrace Cemetery, Post, Tx. Virge
died in 1976, Lorene in 1988. This is a photo of Virge and Lorene.
6) Vinson Dooley 'Pat' was born May 26, 1905 in Purmela, Coryell
Co. TX. He married Nancy Doyel Shedd, daughter of Alfred T. Shedd and
Nancy Burnes Shedd of Coryell Co. Tx. Doyel was born March 14, 1909
in Copperas Cove, Coreyll Co. TX. She told me the way that he'd ask
her to marry him was to say 'do you want to be my cook?' They married
aboard a horse drawn wagon on June 26, 1926, Pearl, Coryell Co. TX.
They were in Hamilton Co in 1927, when my mother Betty Lorene was born,
then in Hill Co. in 1928 when sister, Nora Jo was born. They moved to
Garza Co. in about 1930, joining her large family of siblings, then
Ronnie Mearl was born in 1939. Both Doyel and Pat are deceased and are
buried in Terrace Cemetery, Post, Garza Co. TX. Photo taken on the
50th wedding anniversary, back Nora Jo, Ronnie and Lorene, front, Pat
and Doyel 1976.
7) Billy Haynes 'Bill' was born April 10, 1908 in Purmela, Coryell
Co. Tx. He married Ruby Louella Wallace, sister of Virge's wife,
Lorene, Dec 3, 1931 in Coryell Co. TX. Bill and Ruby had two children
Betty Joyce and Carroll Dean. Bill is deceased and buried in MIles
Cemetery, Miles, Runnels Co. TX. The only photo that we have on Bill
Blacklock who died in 1974. This shows him, Ruby and their grandchildren.
