Hi, Wanda  ~  I was just looking over  the website on rootsweb.com  & found something for which  I  really do need a lookup.

I have been searching  for info on the Kordzik family  who immigrated to Fredericksburg from East Prussia , some in 1859, & some in 1860.

My great grandparents are Theresa Kordzik & Ernest Nimitz, first child of Capt. Nimitz.

I found a listing in Ella Gold's translation of the Kirchen-Buch  Death records that may explain what happened to Louis Kordzik, brother of Theresa Kordzik Nimitz:

Louis Kurdzick (Kordzick), born  4/30/1848, died  03/14/1871, age 22

    1. Can you check this out for me?

    2. Was this Louis the son of Daniel & Maria Magdalena Kordzik?

    3. Was he the sibling of  sisters Carolina James, Wilhelmina Vander Stucken, Theresa Nimitz,  & brothers Henry, Julius, & Otto Kordzik?

    4.  Do you know anything else about him?

Kenny Kordzik (you may know him) and I have been sending info back & forth for several years, trying to piece together  this older Kordzik generation & my Nimitz/Kordzik line with the rest of the Fredericksburg Kordziks that he knows about.

I am a dues-paying member of the Gillespie Historical Society, and appreciate so much all the work you all do.   Thanks so much for any help you can give me, & I will be very happy to pay any costs, fees, expenses etc.

                         Sincerely,

This was the only reference I could find to the Kordzick family and it might explain why there weren't many more.  It was taken from the book Bremer and their Kin in Germany and Texas pg. 1023.
Emil van der Stucken, b circa 1841 Antwerp, younger brother of Frank and Felix, arrived in Texas sometime in the latter 1850's, his first job being that of a clerk in Frank's mercantile business.  He later lived in Menard and at Sonora.  Emil's wife, the former Minna Kordzik, had arrived in Texas in 1858, accompanying her brothers Heinrich and Julius and her sister Lina, from Angerburg, Ostpreussen.  Four years later, her parents, Daniel Kordzik, Lehrer (teacher) and the son and grandson of teachers. and his wife, nee Magdalene Simon, arrived with two other brothers, Louis and Otto and a sister Theresa.  Following their arrival in a country engaged in a bitter war, the death of two family members prompted most of the Kordzik family to return to Germany, Minna remaining as did her brother Heinrich (b. March 7, 1837 and D. May 30, 1928, who md. January 30, 1868 Auguste Meyer, by September 21, 1850 and D. June 24 1930, the daughter of Carl Meyer, b circa 1817 Markoldendorf, Hannover,
I did find in the 1870 Henry Kordzik and his wife and child..
This is what I found in the Kurchen Book:
To George James was born by his wife Caroline, nee Kordzik, on  19 October, 1862, a son who on 27 July was baptized and received the name: Hugo. Baptismal witnesses were: Heinrich Kordzik and Julius Kordzik.  To the same was born on 7 February a daughter who was likewise baptized on 27 July and recieved the names: Auguste Minna.  Present were: Minna Kordzik, Auguste Max, Katharine Menges.
In 1864 Louis Kordzik was confirmed and in 1865 Therese Kordzik was confirmed.
To George James was born by his wife Caroline, nee Kordzik, on 4 August 1865 a son who on 11 September was baptized and received the names:  Hermann Emil.  Present were Emil van der Stucken and Louis Kordzik
Julius Kordzick married Hedwig Martin on 30 December 1868
Emil v. d. Stucken married Wilhelmine Kordzik on September 11 1865
I hope some of this helps.    Wanda

One more note to what I sent
Otto Korzik was confirmed in 1869.    I'm sure it should be Kordzik.    Wanda

I just found another reference to the Kordzik Family.  It is in Pioneers in God's Hills on pg. 98-100.  Since it is extended I can't type out the entire thing but it did say that Henry Kordzik  enlisted in the Confederate Army in Frank Vander Stucken's company and received a shoulder wound.  It did say he came to Gillespie County with sisters Lina and Minna and brother Julius in 1858.  His parents came four years later. with brothers Louis and Otto and sister Theresa.  Two children died but it doesn't say which two so I would assume Louis who would have been 22 was one of them.  You might try to find a listing of the Confederate Army and see if Louis joined and this may explain how he died.   Wanda
Note there is also a picture of Henry in the book.
