James & John TUMLINSON settled in what was known as the DeWitt Colony around 1823 per
land records. James and his wife, Elizabeth PLEMMONS Tumlinson, also had ties to Austin
Colony, but they are not listed among the "Old 300". James & John Tumlinson and several of
their descendents were what we now call 'Texas Rangers'. I am especially interested in this bit of
history.

In the listing of the Saturn Cemetery in Gonzales Co. Texas, there is a James P. SIMMONS and
Virginia Simmons. I believe these to be my great grandparents. I don't have any information on
them except that James P. was born in Mississippi in 1840 and V. Simmons (his wife) was born in
Mississippi in 1860. It would be helpful if you provide the dates of their death along with any
other information that may be available to you. Nothing will be insignificant. Warm Regards,

I graduated from Wills Point, Van Zandt County. Texas High School with John Roland HAND
in 1942. For a number of years he lived at Route One Nixon. Texas. A reentry mailed invitation
to attend the 59th Class Reunion to that address was returned marked "Forwarding Time
Expired". I tried to call him and the telephone number has been recently assigned to someone else.
Nixon is near the County line between Gonzales County and Guadalupe County and not far from
Karnes County. We would like very much to contact this individual or to learn what had
happened to him. I made a telephone directory On Line search and they list the same number we
had. This leads me to believe that he lived there until not very long ago. Any help you can give
will be very much appreciated by 71 surviving members of this class of 98 graduates. We are
planning to try to have 100 % attendance of our living graduates for the 60th anniversary to be
held next year. We want to have a special memorial for those not surviving. Don Blasingame ,

My g-g-grandmother, Susan Amanda WALTON died on Aug 18, 1859, possibly giving birth to
her daughter Susan. Her husband was William Issac Walton and they had a son William Henry
Walton who had also been born in Belmont. I am wondering if there are any newspaper records
reporting the death, hopefully listing her surviving family, husband and son, plus father, mother,
sisters and/or brothers, as well as place of birth, etc. My sincere thanks, Walt Russell --

I would like some direction in how to find my grandparents background. Both were born in
Gonzales, TX. They say they are Cherokee but do not have papers to prove this. It's very hard to
get information from them. My grandfather's name was Simon GALINDO he was born Feb.18
1910 in Gonzales, TX in a town called Nuezes. His parents were Stevon Galindo and Francisca
ROBLES. My grandmother's name is Fidela Galindo. She was born April 24 1915, in Gonzales,
also in the town of Nuezes. Her father's name was Edwardo SAUCEDO and her mother's name
was Natividad. I don.t know her last name because she passed away when my grandmother was
about 3 years old. Thank you.

I am doing research on my Great Grandparents William E. and Dora Bell STEPHENS who are
buried in Carlton, Texas. I have found a lot of information about William E.'s father Barnabus
and have documents from Barnabus (Eli's son) to his son, William Eli Stephens. Eli and his family
have information in the History of Gonzales County book. I would like to extend the search for
Dora SHULER since I have found that Adaline Malissa (1837) daughter of Eli Stevens/Stephens
married a Daniel Shuler in 1857. Also Harriett Jane (1835) married Hayne Shuler 1856. If
Barnabus' sisters married into the Shuler family and later my Great Grandfather married Dora
Bell Shuler maybe they were from Gonzales. I am also looking for the connection if any of Elisha
and Eli Stephens both in Gonzales in the 1840's. The Stevens' arrived in Texas in 1826
according to the Texas Handbook on line ([they didn't mention first names), but Eli and the
Merrill Smith wagon train arrived in 1846 I have learned. Which Steven's arrived early on and
were they related to Eli Stephens (1792-1867) is one of my questions? Eli's father was William
(born after 1750) son of Barnabus (1734). Eli and his son Barnabus were here in Texas but I was
wondering if Eli's father William was ever here in Texas? Any information on the Stephens family
in addition to what is in the Gonzales County History book would be welcome. I have not looked
for the Shuler family in the book at the library but will be going back again soon. I am in San
Antonio and we have a good Texana and Genealogy section. Thank you for any information that
you can steer me to. Pat Corn

FREEZE, Richard F. and Thomas F.(Sr.) . From Georgia to Texas before 1919 (Thomas F. Jr. -
was born in TX in 1919). Thomas came to Texas to join his brother Richard. According to
family history they lived in Gonzales and Oldham Co. Thomas registered for the draft in 1917 or
1918 and is listed as "lives Nara Varsi (Narsvisa) NM Oldham". Thomas also lived in Vega, TX.
Around 1923 Thomas and family moved back to Georgia but Richard stayed in TX. I have found
a Richard F. Freeze buried in Saturn Cemetary in Gonzales Co. Any information would be
helpful.
