I am a lost SKIDMORE looking for family in the Skidmore/Beeville Texas area. My father was
Scott Osburn Skidmore, born in Skidmore, TX in Feb. 1902. His father was Charles Henry and
mother was Bessie E. (COBB) and had an older brother Alfred E.. Father became County
Commissioner in El Paso for some years. He married Jackie, who had a daughter from another
marriage and they had a son Scott O. Jr., my half-brother. After moving to the Fort Worth area he
changed his identity to James Weldon SHELTON. There he met my mother, Martha Annabelle
(STAGGEE) EDICK, and they had me August 22, 1955. They divorced when I was 5. It wasn't
until my 26th year that dad told me of his true identity. About 2 weeks after his telling me, my
father was killed in an accident. He never finished the story! He died Jan. 3, 1982. I'm looking for
more information. Francis O. Skidmore, founder of Skidmore, TX is my great grandfather. I wish
very much to find my family. Would love to learn more about my Texas roots, sure. But the
family thing is the most important thing to me now. Scottie Shelton (Facility Manager Tokai

I am trying to determine when my GGGrandfather arrived in Texas. Joshua V. STEWART, his
wife and 2 small children are in the Gonzales Co. census for 1850 (p326, Peach Creek division).
The children are both listed as born in Texas. Beverly Stewart & family are on the next page, and
I suspect he is a brother, since Josh named one of his sons Beverly. I have also found where
Beverly Stewart is listed as owning land in 1839 in Gonzales Co. Beverly and Joshua both came
from somewhere in Alabama. By 1860 Josh had moved on to Karnes Co. Would you believe it?
I lived in Seguin for 7 years completely unaware that I was so close to where my GGgrandparents
lived 120 years earlier. I'd appreciate any additional information you might find. Jane Caperton
