I am seeking the identity of "Judge" LEWIS, who is cited in an 1878 Gonzales Inquirer newspaper item as being "the uncle of Miss Ida HEREFORD". Miss Ida Hereford was my ancestor, and was the daughter of Andrew Chunn Hereford and Mary Ann STRICKLAND of Colorado Co TX. She later married Daniel Franklin WALKER of Gonzales Co. I believe Judge Lewis must have been the husband of one of Mary Ann Strickland's younger sisters, and would like to find the exact connection. Thank you, Regina Roper

Does anyone have access to the Gonzales Co. 1860 census? I need to find out what information is given in the entry for W. J. D. PIERPONT (Round Top post office), on microfilm page 81. Are there marked Pierpont burials in Gonzales County? I'm looking for William Pierpont and Elizabeth Pierpont. William may have been the W. J. D. on the 1860 Gonzales census or that may have been his son. I'd like to find out what date of birth is given for the W. J. D. on the 1860 census. The age wasn't given for the son, W. J. D., on the 1850 Jackson Co. census. William's daughter Agnes (also on the 1850 Jackson Co., as 13 years old) is apparently listed on the 1860 census in Victoria County (I have only an index). The New Handbook of Texas (The Handbook of Texas Online) says William died in Wharton County, Tx, in 1866. Where is he buried? Where is Elizabeth Pierpont buried? Are there any Pierpont descendants in the Gonzales Co. area today? Any help in this matter will be very much appreciated.

Looking for any information on Elisha Kirkman FLY (b) 1824 and wife Isabella Jane (Tibbie) SCOTT Fly, and/or Albert Louis PHILIPS and Nancy Amanda Bell Fly Philips or Samuel D. Fly. Elisha Kirkman Fly was selling land in Mississippi in 1850s so possible bought land in Gonzales Cnty in 1860s. Could someone look up land deeds and see? Or possible the 1870 census for the Fly Family or Philips? The story is that the Scott Family had to leave Yalobusha County, MS in a hurry and during the night because of the shooting of a black carpet bagger official. They met up with the Fly Family who had already moved on to Arkansas. Possibly the Arkadelphia area. From there the family moved on to Texas. If anyone has heard this story or has any info, please let me know. I would really like to trace their tract from MS through Arkasas into Texas. This was after 1860 as they are listed on Yalobusha Cny Census then and in 1874 are in Texas. Collin county in 1880 and Red River cnty in 1900. An uncle was Col William Fly Lived in Oyster Creek, Brazoria Cnty, TX. He moved to Texas in 1853-54. He died there in1855. His wife moved to Big Hill in Gonzales Cnty, Texas. They were well to do and had 300 salves which were set free. She died there in 1866. Appreciate any help. thanks, Dottie in NC

Gonzales County Texas: Can someone help me, I have lost the name of someone who was doing current research on the Storey family. I have a book about the Family Storey that was written in the 1950's. I come from the John Thompson Storey. John Thompson Storey of Chattooga co, GA was born in 1796 at Spartanburg, S.C. for some years he was a member of the GA legislature. He was a Col. Of the Militia, serving in the numerous Indian Wars. He moved to Gonzales Co. TX, near Monthalia, in 1844 and saw service in the Mexican War. He died on 11 Nov 1858. Lucy McLESTER, his wife, was the Dau of John McLester and Araminta GRAY, the latter being of the Gray family of England. (Someone needs to check a primary source for this.BB) Lucy was born at Buncombe Co, NC on 25 Sept 1797 and died at Lockhart, Texas on 15 Aug 1874. Richard Lawson Storey was the only one who came back to Georgia. Richard was born in Jackson Co, GA, 1 Feb 1823. He moved to Texas with his parents in 1844, but returned to GA shortly thereafter -- the only child of this branch to return to GA. He served as secretary to the gov of GA before Richard Lawson. Anthony Storey was born in 1746, five years before his father moved to Fairforest, S.C.; I hope this rings a bell for someone out there. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

I believe John Miller served in the CSA since Nancy received a pension, again in Gonzales Co. I believe John died in Gonzales Co. Any cemetary record? Is there an obituary that might tell who John's parents are? I have no idea when he died, but it was after 1873. He was born in SC in 1827. Don't know when he came to TX. Thanks. Sheryl Woodbury

I was asked to look for informatin on a Buford Martin Gentry who died in 1968. He had 2 daughters, Ruby Pearl and Nola, at one time he may have been married to Harriet Bassett. His father was Rufus Gentry. He came from Georgia. Any information you could pass along would be great. Ruby remembers being in Gonzales, she is my husband's grandmother. Her mother left the family, and her father remarried, and someone else raised her. She had 3 half-sisters, Addie Marie, Mabel, and Edith Viola, and a half-brother, Roy Gentry. Rufus died in 1911. Thank you!!!
