I am looking for the person that collected the headright for John HARRIS, that died at the Alamo.
It is said his brother, Sidon H. Harris collected this headright, but I can't prove it. John Harris
supposely came to Texas with his cousin David CROCKETT. John's headright certificate is
suppose to show he was a resident of Gonzales. C.M.S.R. # 1077, shows that he was a single
man & a member of Capt. Wm. B. Harrison's company, & that his brother, Sidon HARRIS
administered his estate. (this information is from "A Critical Study of the Siege of the Alamo") I
don't know how to go about finding out & proving who collected John's headright. Any help is
greatly appreciated. Thank you, Lyn Harris

I'm researching the murder of my greatgrandmother, Mary E. CASTLEBERRY. Born in Bastrop
Co. in 1876. First Marriage to J. E. SHANKLE. Second marriage to John HALL. Murdered by
John Hall on Dec. 10, 1911 in Gonzales County. Would like any newspaper articles regarding
murder. Family rumor 1-- Was a brutal murder with an ax. Mary's 8 year old son, Roy Dempsey
Shankle, (my grandfather) tried to stop him during the murder. Roy Dempsey Shankle committed
suicide in Houston, Texas in 1935, so factural history is lost with his death. Family rumor 2--
John Hall was convicted of murder and given life in prison and died in prison. Would like any
newspaper articles, trial records, court records, etc. regarding murder. Can you help or tell me
where I can receive info on this. Thank you. Sandra Schwing, great grandaughter to murder
victim.

Looking any Carpenters listed in Gonzalez County during time period 1850-1860. (1.) Temple
(Templeton) CARPENTER (b. ~1816, GA), the eldest son of John, s/o Temple, moved to
Gonzales Co. 1850-1860. He is the only one of John's clan to do so (I think?) What drew him
there? He was married to Malinda DeWITT and she may be part of the same clan who originally
had founded the DeWitt Colony...don't know. Malinda DeWITT was supposedly born ~1825 in
OH. (2.) There is that Wiley Carpenter and his lines around Gonzales Co. Or at least there
is a younger Wiley born in the 1850s (I think) and his descendants claim he was the son of another
Wiley who was supposedly born in 1819 in MS, coming through Yalobusha Co. But no one has
proven that there ever was an elder Wiley in Gonzales as far as I know. Thanks for your help,
