Searching for anyone that may know about the following story Copied from the Hays County
Genealogy quaterlies, issue in 1972. " Shortly after my visit to Austin, there occurred the last of
Indian Hostilities around San Marcos, or at least, the last I remember hearing about.A Mr and
Mrs GREENHAW were going from Gonzales to Blanco, and had stopped to spend the nite with
us in Purgatory Springs. They had their baby with them and their twelve year old son.Mr
Greenhaw people were excepting them and his family in Blanco, and when they failed to show up,
some of his people came to see what had happened. They found the entire Greenhaw family were
Indians had killed them, that is, all except the boy. He was carried of by the Indians but finally did
come back years later, after he was grown. Many people suspected a white man of being with
and leading the Indians in this attack and in others before, but no really knows."
My question is, Does any one have any knowledge of this happening. I do not know who wrote
this article. Someone may have an anscetor that remembers the story. I am very interested as to
what the GRENHAW's names were. It was written in A book called "History of Texas and North
Mexican States" by H.H. Bancorft p.572 and then again in the Quarterly. I would appreciate
hearing from anyone. Thanks Edna Fells, 205 West Fuller, Bergheim Tx. 78004. 830 336 3306.

I am looking for information on the WEST family. My grandfather Grady Abner West grew up in
Luling. He was the only male child and I believe he had three sisters. He has found his parents
grave sites in a small cemetery in Harwood. His fathers name is William Wallace West. His
mother's maiden name is LEE and is believed to be the sister of Robert E. Lee. They both died of
TB between 1905 and 1915. Do you have any information about these relatives? What would be
the best way to confirm these facts? Thank You, Jason West

In 1857 my multi great grandmother Katherine HARRELL (born CARMICHAEL) left SC with
her parents and moved to Gonzales Co., Texas, apparently leaving ggggrandfather Elisha Harrell.
I've found her in Fayette Co. with at least 2 of her sons in the 1870 and 1880 census. They are
Neil McHale Harrell and Duncan Braddy Harrell, twins born 3/27/1852. Apparently Katherine
married a Mearkham or Markham Kenner out of Tennessee. The 1890 census was burned and I
don't have access to later information. I don't know if either of the sons ever married. I'm trying
to find out about them but Cincinnati doesn't have much Texas information. Another brother
Warren McDuffie Harrell born 1/14/1850 was in Gonzales Co. living with a Carmichael cousin in
1880 but I've lost track of him too. If you could help or give me direction on how to help myself,
I'd certainly appreciate it. Thanks a bunch.

I am seeking anyone related to Jane Caroline BLASSENGAME, born about 1831 who married R.
R. DILLARD and was residing in Gonzales County in 1857. Jane Caroline was the daughter of
Woodson and Mary Blassengame. Woodson, Mary and a son, Calvin were involved in a shootout
over a personal dispute with a neighbor on April 7, 1856 in Comal County, Texas. Captain James
H. CALLAHAN, Eli HINDS, and William S. "Maulheel" JOHNSON were shot. Callahan and
Johnson were killed. On April 14, 1856 a mob overtook the Blassengame's who were being held
in custody of the Justice of the Peace. Woodson and Calvin were killed, Mary escaped into the
nearby woods. At least 22 people were eventually indicted for the murders of Woodson and
Calvin. I am researching this entire event as many of the principles involved were related to my
own family. My Great-great-grandfather John M. WATSON took the Blassengame family into
custody after the initial shootout. I would like to make contact with anyone related to these
families and especially would like to know of any stories that made it down the family to today.
