I have just received some family records that indicate that Isaac WHITE, who died at the Alamo, was the father of two men located on the 1860 census in Rancho, Gonzales, TX, i.e. Richard White, born in May 1824, and Charles E. White, born abt 1826. The book "Alamo Defenders," by Bill Groneman, 1990, indicates that another man named Robert White also died at the Alamo. This White is specifically listed as being from Gonzales. Our family descends from Charlie E. White. Given the popularity of the Alamo among Texans, I felt your records might be able to confirm or refute the information that has come into our possession. I look forward to your response. Seeking information on a resident of Gonzales, that was a nephew to a C.A. McDANIEL, (Charlie McDaniel). All the information on the nephew that I have is the last name would have been MATHEWS or MANESS. C.A. had two sisters Ruth Maness (or Maniss) and Rebecca Mathews, got this information from my husbands aunts on the family tree , but there was no first name for the nephew. C.A. also had a brother by the name of John Wesley McDaniel who lived in Limestone county, C.A. and Ruth and Rebeccas came from Leon county last census that I had 1870s Ruth married a Maness and Rebecca married a James Mathews, so either names would fit for the nephew, I really think I may well be some one by the name as John Maness, if you have some information with someone that may have been your greatuncle or grandfather that was in Gonzales county in the 1900s to 1920s, my email is space@mexia.com Thanks Brenda McDaniel.

PILGRIM, Thomas Jefferson. I wish to obtain genealogical information on T. J. Pilgrim. A notable figure in the l800s, he lived and died in Gonazles, TX. It is my understanding that a small community in Gonzales County was named 'Pilgrim' for him. Early DeWitt Co. residents George BLAIR and Sarah LOCKHART had a daughter named Margaret BLAIR (NOT Margaret Lockhart as I erroneously reported earlier) who married Milton HARDY. Cannot find any records of them after their marriage. She was born 6 May 1824 and probably married in Gonzales or DeWitt Co. anywhere from 1840 to 1845. Could have ended up in Victoria or Fayette Counties. If you have any info please let me hear from you. Nancy Page, nrp@tca.net

GLOVER, SAMPLE: Found in my father's possession, a photograph of two Victorian young ladies holding pictures in their hands. The picture is marked on the back "Mammie Glover Sample and Beatrice Sample, 1893". Mayme Glover Sample was the wife of Winchester "Chess" Sample who ran a drug store in Smiley for many years. It had been my understanding that they were the daughters of Edward J Glover, b1840 Ms d1874 Gonzales Co, but the dates don't fit, and neither do the names, according to the 1880 census, in which Edward's wife Elvira Bundick Glover is listed as head of household with three children of other names. According to one source, Mayme was born in 1876, which would be after her father's death. Can anyone out there sort this out? A copy of the picture is available on request.
