DAVIS CEMETERY (Plat map available in Gonzales Record Center & Archives, 830-672-7970 - gonzalesco@gvec.net ) Davis Cemetery is nearer the community of Hochheim than any other commercial area, and is located on the Hochheim-Cheapside-Cuero Farm-Market Route 766. It is best to enter 766 from highway 183, the Cuero-Hochheim-Gonzales route. ON the second gravel road on the right, approximately 2 - 3 miles from 183, turn onto the gravel road. About one-half city block from 766, on the left side is a cattle gap, a metal gate, and mailbox for R.E. King, Rt. 3 Box 76. The gate enclosed barbed wire surrounding pastureland. Enter this gate and follow the fence line, which parallels the lane on the cattle guard side roughly on city block, then turn to the right, and Davis Cemetery is straight ahead, also enclosed in a barbed wire, cyclone fenced area, with a metal gate. Do not attempt going to the cemetery following a rain, as you will bog down and get stuck. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Yaws (Ethel McMeens Yaws) are descendents of Daniel Davis and still live on part of the original Daniel Davis property on Route 766 - approximately one city block past the second gravel road. Their white frame clapboard house sits on the left of the highway and their large mailbox on the right is well marked with their name. If the cemetery cannot be located from the above instructions, it is directly in front of their home, and their home is visible from the cemetery, through the trees.
