I am looking for the long lost brother of my greatgrandfather, Morgan COLTRANE b. abt 1819
Grayson (now Carroll) Co VA. He served as a 2nd Sgt 24th Va Infantry in the War of Southern
Independence. After the War he "moved to Texas" and out of sight. I just found a M Coltrane in
the 1870 census for Karnes Co. Is this him? After 1870 he is said to have moved to and farmed in
Gonzales Tx and died there. Any thing you can give me on the Coltranes in Texas would be

I am trying to find information on Mary L. HUFF, b. May 1860 (according to census records).
She was born in TX and her father in TN, her mother in Alabama...according to the same records.
Their names are unknown. She married William B. DAVIS of Virginia about 1876 and they
resided in Bastrop Co., TX. They were divorced in early 1900's and she married Jarvis NUNN,
but they were separated or divorced when she died (date unkown) and she is buried in or near
Beaumont, TX. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

STEWART - Researching family of Elias and Eliza Stewart in Gonzales Co. At the 1880 census
there were: Eliza 44 (mother) and children: Wiley Leonard and his dau Martha, William, Mary J.
and Samuel. James P. Stewart and his wife Cynthia were living nearby. Wiley Leonard later

MOORE, William Thomas b1869 Flint River GA d 9-23-1940 Houston TX and Minnie
McFARLANE b3-16-1888 Navasota TX d3-15-1962. My paternal grandparents were married at
the RICHARZ home (her cousins) in Houston, TX on 4-28-1918 and immediately moved to
Gonzales to the home of Mrs. H. REESE, Sr. A newspaper clipping that I have
from the Gonzales Inquirer states that he was "overseer at the Gonzales Cotton
Mills......has been connected with the Mills since last summer". My grandmothers parents
were Young BOWERS and Elizabeth Catherine MOORE (hopefully no relation to my
grandfather!). Young is mentioned in the 1901 Gonzales Inquirer, through this site, as
having shot someone!! I'm really interested in any info on William Thomas Moore.
After my father died, I discovered that he had a much older brother, who for some reason was
kept a family secret. Any info on W.T.Moore's "first" family would be appreciated. Please E-Mail

Forester consists of those of Henry Clay Forester and Emmaline Davis:R. W., Emmaline A.,
Toss(Henry), Maria Annie, Viannie, Charley, Willie, Davis, Nancy, Effie, and John R.
These families lived in Gonzales County and then many, including my grandparents, Annie Maria
Forester, daughter of Henry Clay and Emmaline Forester, and my grandfather, Richard Edward,
son of John Brown and Sarah Forester, moved to San Antonio and lived in the Harlandale area.

Looking for info on Sarah LOGAN, born circa 1861 in Gonzales County, Texas. Married 1880
to Thaddeus L. BRALEY in same county. Resided in Possumtrot Colony, Gonzales County.
Family tradition holds that her uncle or great-uncle John Logan, died with Fannin at Goliad, 1836.
Thaddeus' father was Erasmus A. Braley, who arrived in Gonzales County circa 1870. Erasmus'
father was Joseph Braley. Sarah's brother is believed to be Robert E. Lee Logan.

Still looking for relatives or information on Sarah Armenta LOGAN, born circa 1861 in Gonzales
County. Married to Thaddeus Leroy BRALEY in February, 1880. Sarah's siblings included
Robert E. Lee Logan (Uncle Lee), Willie Logan, and Zoad Logan. My grandfather, Frank A.
Braley, also mentioned a first cousin, Ed Logan. Sarah and her husband are buried in Itasca, Hill
County, Texas. They resided at Possumtrot or Opossumtrot Colony, near Waelder, in Gonzales
County. Frank A. Braley and his wife, Nellie Braley, resided in Gonzales, Texas, through the

Green McCoy (1818-1852) m.Susan or Nancy Davis; James McCoy (1796-1836) died in Goliad

Searching for information on my Great Aunt Bertha P. WILLIFORD EVANS. She was married
to Eugene Evans on Feb. 15, 1905 and had several children. She was married in Junction, Tx.
Kimble Co. In 1910 they were living in Gonzales, Tx. She helped raise her sister Grace Williford
after her mother died in child birth in 1905. If you have any information I would appreciate any
help you can give me. I know she had another sister named Reta or Rheta not sure of the spelling.
Her father lived with them for sometime. I am the granddaugher of Grace Williford who married
Christian SIMON. Bertha's fathers name was Dave T. Williford and mothers name was Emmeline
Lookingbill Williford. Please help me find out more about my family. Thank you.

Gonzales County, RO(D)GERS, Silas and Julia, seeking info on the family of Silas and Julia Ann
Wilkins Ro(d)gers, in Gonzales county from 1833 until ?, ended up in Indian Territory by 1876,
or any other Ro(d)gers family members (Willkiam H. and John N. ) who started in this area,
originally from Arkansas or Missouri, all moving eventually northward into N. Tex and Okla. by
1900. The nine children of Silas and Julia included: Mary Melvina, William Price, Sarah Lee,

The William and Moses HESSKEW familys were one of the very early families in the Gonzales
County area, they are listed on the 1860 census at the Salt Stream Post Office. The road from
Pilgrim to Smiley use to go by Hesskew Springs, before the present Hwy. 87 was built . There is
supposed to be a windmill at the site of the old Hesskew home & school. Any information on the

I am looking for information regarding my great-great-grandfather James Ezekiel VERNOR,
born 1819. I believe that he died in 1886 in Dewville but I have no real proof of this. He was a
Methodist minister and I have been told there is a church somewhere near Dewville that is named
after him. I looked through the cemetary listings on the Gonzales County page. Vernors listed
there are children and grandchildren of James Ezekiel. Any information you could give me, or

My ancestor, Richard HEATH, arrived in Texas as member of the Dewitt Colony on the 24th of
Oct.l828, received a land grant and settled along the Lavaca River south of Hallettsville. He
married Margrate BILLINGS, they had 3boys and 3 girls. The boys were named Fred Perry
Heath b.1836, Mason Foley Heath b.1842 and William Henry Heath b.1844. My lineage is
