For more on this community, please go to the official web site of City of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas
FAIR OAKS RANCH is a new community northwest of San Antonio. It is located about seven miles from Boerne, Texas, south on Interstate Highway No. 10. Its proximity to Boerne has placed the community children in the Boerne ISD School District, even though Boerne is in Kendall County. The residents shop, attend church and social functions in the Boerne area so much that the two communities act as one in many instances.
HISTORY: Fair Oaks incorporation was approved in a heavy voter turnout in 1987 and then in January, 1988 the residents of Fair Oaks Ranch South voted to consolidate with Fair Oaks Ranch North, thus creating the city of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas. Boots Gaubatz became the first mayor of Fair Oaks Ranch. Serving on the first city council were Bob Caldwell, Jim Buhaug, Wanda Price, Jim Deats and Gary Younglove. The new town, consisting of subdivisions developed on the old Ralph Fair Ranch, grew rapidly. By 1995 the population was 3125, a growth of 12% a year since 1988. In 1995 the city was given its own zip code number by the postal department. Effective in July, 1995 the zip code became 78015. Prior to this time, Fair Oaks was included in the Boerne "78006" number. On March 4, 1996 Robert Andrews assumed office as chief administrator of all city operations except the police department.
It was 1998 before new city office facilities were approved. The move to the new municipal building was made on October 20, 1999. From the Hill Country Recorder, Wednesday, October, 20 1999: "The new 5000 square foot facility is immediately behind the converted ranch foreman's house that has been Fair Oaks Ranch's municipal building since October, 1992." The City Administrator at this time is Roy Thomas. The mayor remains Boots Gaubatz.
In November, 1999 Mayor Gaubatz was diagnosed with lymphoma, a cancer of the Lymph nodes. He was quoted by the San Antonio Express-News of November 10, 1999 as saying he is considering not running for re-election in May [2000].
On January 26, 2000 Fair Oaks Ranch cut the ribbon on the city's brand new City Hall. Aldermen present were: Lydia Beavers, Ron Tribo, Ray Balcer, Gary Younglove and Dan Kasprowicz, along with the Mayor Boots Gaubatz.
