THE COMFORT HERITAGE FOUNDATION, INC. once called
the Comfort Task Force is a dedicated group whose purpose is (1) to
preserve all written documents pertaining to the history of Comfort, Texas
community. The archives once located in the Comfort Public Library is now housed in
the Old Comfort State Bank Building, corner of 7th and High Street;
(2) to preserve local historical structures; and (3) to help students
from grade level through college.
Two major projects were the restoration of
the Treue der Union Monument, and the Old Comfort State Bank Building.
The organization sponsors the annual
Comfort Village Antique Show.
Recently the Old Comfort State Bank Building has become the home
of the Comfort Heritage Foundation. The building will be known as the Comfort
Heritage Foundation Museum and will house the archived files collected by the
organization and artifacts donated by local families.
Currently the Museum is open on Tuesday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon.
LATEST NEWS, March, 2007. The Foundation has recently accepted the deed to the old Brownsboro Cemetery, also called River Bend Cemetery. We are restoring it and attempting to find descendants of people buried there. Application for a Texas State Historic Cemetery marker is underway.
