HOPE, LAVACA COUNTY, TEXAS
This small family cemetery is in the Hope area. There are 27 graves left, but eight of those are unknown. The earliest grave appears to be that of Jacob Weber with a death date of 23 Aug 1865, but it is hard to read. The cemetery is on private property. Go south from Yoakum on Hwy 111. After the sign on the left that shows the way to Hope, go to the next aluminum gate on the left and go through the second aluminum gate. There is a wire gap about 1/4 mile north of this. The fenced cemetery is about 50 yards into the woods beyond the wire gap.
A complete survey of the cemetery can be found in Sammy Tise's Lavaca County Texas Cemetery Records, Volumes 1-VI. Several people have volunteered to do lookups in his cemetery surveys for you. The books are also available for purchase.
This and the photos below were contributed by Ronnie Lee (Scovel) Brothers.
Besides the following, there are thirteen other markers in the Hampil Cemetery with the surnames DeVot, Hampil, Rochelle, Schneider, and Weber.
