| NOTES: Sam Forge was a slave of either William Townsend or Robert Reed Smith. His slave wife Talitha belonged to R. R. and Angeline Smith. After slavery Talitha married James Forge, and Sam Forge Sr. married Mariah, though he had several children with Talitha. Peter and Eliza Forge were born in AL, and though Peter took the name of Forge, possibly only the son of Mariah. Mariah also had two other sons, Daniel and Nathaniel Burgess also born in AL. Ellen Kelley the daughter of Mariah. Robert Forge stated his mother was born in KY on 1880 census, as opposed to Maryland where Mariah was listed as born. In 1870, there was a Susan living with James and Talitha Forge. This possibly could be Ellen Kelley. No Susan to date found on any deeds or wills.
