- Looking for information on my great uncle John E. DAVIS(born 1861
in Lamar
County near Pecos, TX, died when his home burned down December 12,
1947).
He and his daughter (name unknown) who was killed in a car accident are
buried in Voca, TX. John was know as "Wild Jones" in Voca due to his
antics
and a old car with an exhaust whistle. His close friend was Herman
Lehman(sp?)
who had been captured as a boy and lived with the indians for 6 years.
John had a sister named Belle who was a Nazarene preacher. Mr. Wayne
Spiller
told me by phone that John was in a book titled "Ghost Towns of Texas
Characters"
and that he may have a picture of John with several other cowboys who
had
just returned from a cattle drive on the Chisholm Trail. My great
grand-father
was John's father by a first marriage to a Ms. Holcomb. John's father
was
Edward Davis, a confederate soldier under general Sibley.
