MONAHANS (1998) METEORITE NEWSPAPER ARTICLES |
The Monahans (1998) meteorite fell in Monahans, Texas on March 22, 1998.
One stone fell next to some kids playing basketball. A second stone was
recovered out of the street by a local police officer. The meteorites were studied
shortly after the fall and water was found inside halite crystals within it's matrix.
The total weight of this fall was over 2.5 pounds. However, the Monohan's
city has kept the larger stone and all but a few grams of the other stone made it's way
into a single private collection leaving very little for others. Classified as an H5 stone
chondrite.
